This session introduces students to the teaming dimension of their firstyear MBA program—and introduces them as well to their first-year teammates. After meeting their new teammates, students will engage in a series of conversations that enable them to create the foundation for successful teamwork, which include the creation of the ground rules by which they will work together. Students will also become familiar with the cohorts with whom they will be taking the first-year courses.

The MBA Program Development Committee (PDC) is comprised of faculty and staff who oversee the policies, curriculum, and content of the MBA program. In addition to operationalizing SMG strategy in the new curriculum, the PDC has responsibility for setting grading standards and making final decisions regarding students with poor academic performance. This session will introduce students to BU SMG’s grading guidelines, the process of academic performance review and will also highlight the school’s Academic Conduct Code, which was created to foster a supportive and productive learning environment. This session will discuss ethical expectations of students, and their rights and responsibilities as members of the learning community at SMG.

Students will work with their team to learn more about how culture and background differences affect how we think, feel and respond to the world. A basic understanding of diversity is key to effective crosscultural communication. Leading diverse, multi- cultural teams requires both an understanding of and a tolerance for culturally different approaches. Students will create a foundation for addressing team integration issues when teams are comprised of members from different cultures and backgrounds.
