San Diego Mesa College Articulation NewsBrief Volume 1, Issue 3 September/October 2006 UCLA ACCOUNTING COURSES REINSTATED Inside this issue: UCLA Accounting Courses 1 Univ. of Phoenix Math Courses Denied 1 06-07 UCTCA Submittal 2 06-07 UCSD TAG 2 The UCLA Anderson School of Management has reinstated UCLA's lower division accounting sequence, Management 1A and 1B, after briefly offering accounting only at the upper division level. Management 1A and 1B include topics in financial and managerial accounting commonly covered in 2 semesters or 3 quarters of introductory accounting at the CCCs. Specifically, course 1A covers financial accounting, and course 1B covers managerial accounting. UC-transferable CCC accounting courses that were previously articulated as UCLA's Management 1A and 1B (in 2003-04 and before) will have the articulation reinstated; no review of course outlines will be required. UCLA's upcoming 2006-07 major preparation articulation agreements in ASSIST will include Management 1A and 1B on the appropriate majors. The UCLA Business Economics and Math/Applied Science majors will once again require lower division accounting as part of their major preparation, effective for students transferring in Fall 2007. The accounting requirement for admission to the highly selective Business Economics major will be phased in as outlined below. • Curriculum Committee/ 3 Council Meeting Schedules and Deadlines Important Dates CurricUNET Conference 3 4 Business Economics will require both Management 1A and 1B as part of the lower division preparation. For Fall 2007 admission to Business Economics, students are strongly advised, but not required, to complete the accounting sequence along with the other major preparation courses prior to transfer. For Fall 2008 admission to Business Economics, students are required to complete the accounting sequence along with the other major preparation courses prior to transfer. • Math/Applied Science will require Management 1A for the Operations Research Plan, and both Management 1A and 1B for the Actuarial Plan and the Management/ Accounting Plan. Students interested in any of these plans within the Math/Applied Science major should consider completing accounting prior to transfer, but accounting is not strictly required to be admitted to the major. Students who do not complete the accounting prior to transfer will have to complete it after transfer to UCLA. CSU CHICO TO DENY UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX MATHEMATICS COURSES Chico State has recently reviewed the Mathematics course offerings from University of Phoenix and has determined that none may be used in CSU GE and/or for admissions purposes for our campus. None of these courses lists Intermediate Algebra as a prerequisite; we require that Intermediate Algebra (or higher) be a stated pre-requisite in order for a Math course to be used in GE and/or admissions. In addition, a review of the course outlines for MTH 208 and 209 (College Mathematics I and II) indicates that the content is more in line with Beginning Algebra and Intermediate Algebra respectively, rather than the “college algebra” cited in the catalog description. For these reasons we request that California Community Colleges refrain from using any University of Phoenix Mathematics course in a CSU GE Certification sent to Chico State.
