Moving Forward, No Matter What. In 2013, we provided services to 13,300 patients
through 23,153 visits. We reached an additional 23,728 individuals through our education
and outreach programs. In addition, we guided many of our clients through the process of
accessing health insurance through the provision of the Affordable Care Act. For many, this is
the first time they have had such insurance.
But what sets Planned Parenthood apart from most health care providers is the dedication
and generosity of our supporters. Through a substantial grant from a loyal family foundation,
we were able to reach hundreds of families in the African American and Hispanic communities
in the mid-Hudson Valley. Both Latina and African American women have significant
disparities in health outcomes such as mortality rates for cervical and breast cancers. This
grant resulted in a 500 percent icrease in women from these communities seeking screening
and preventive services from PPMHV for the very first time.
Additionally, a family of longtime donors established a fund to provide long-acting reversible
contraceptives, such as IUDs, post-abortion for women who cannot afford them. Long-acting
reversible contraceptives are the most effective method to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.
Thanks to these donors, many women in the mid-Hudson Valley now have the opportunity to
ensure full control over their future reproductive choices.
We’re here for the women and families in our community because of your support and
dedicated belief in our mission. I cannot thank you enough for what you do—whether through
charitable support, patient escorting, hosting an event or writing letters to the editor. We
appreciate your partnership in making sure women, men and young people can get the care
and information they need to be healthy and reach their potential. Thank you for standing with
Planned Parenthood.
Most Sincerely,
Blake Rider

WOMEN’S
EQUALITY
We traveled to Albany alongside over 500
advocates from across NY state, braving the cold
and snow, to talk with our local representatives
about Governor Cuomo’s 10-Point Women’s
Equality Act. It includes such items as closing
the pay gap; strengthening human trafficking and
sexual harassment laws; ending income, family
status and pregnancy discrimination and aligning
New York’s abortion laws with Roe v. Wade.

PATIENT STORY
There was a day in the Newburgh office when the staff decided to
order pizza for lunch. Everyone chipped in $5 each and got several
pies. A PPMHV Medical Assistant took a slice of pizza and cup of
water for a 14-year-old patient who looked very hungry. Later, she
brought her another slice. On her lunch break, she did not take any
pizza and was busy working. It turns out that she felt she had taken
her share and given it away, so she wasn’t going to have lunch
that day. Of course, there was plenty and we all chided her for not
eating! But this demonstrates the dedication our staff has for all
who need us. “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life
by what we give.” ~Winston Churchill
