As the national spokesperson for CORE, the National Association for Racial Equality, Mr. Innis is very frequently seen on both the conservative and “main stream” media. As a frequent contributor to MSNBC , CNBC, CNN as well as FOX News and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, he proudly represents the other side of minority political thought; the conservative side. He supports the Tea Party movement and fought back when they were accused of being racist. A strong supporter and advisor to Herman Cain, he is always out front to defend the right of minorities, specifically African-Americans to be conservative and to be independent in thought and action. A supporter of traditional marriage and gun ownership and our Constitution, he has been around the political scene since the early 90’s when he served as Campaign Manager for his father, Roy Innis in the primary campaign for Mayor of New York City against David Dinkins. He will help us understand the importance of minority voters in this year’s election and provide suggestions as to how we can reach out to the minorities in our community and the Las Vegas Valley. There is an unsung “Woman Warrior” living in our midst. Let me introduce Tracy Smith. Our own Rana Goodman watched Tracy graduate high school in 1985 and begin a long, challenging road to her present position as Detective for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the Domestic Violence Unit. Tracy was the admiring daughter of a police detective who always knew she wanted to emulate her father by protecting and helping those least able to help and protect themselves—women and children. What is amazing about Tracy Smith is the many hats she wore on her journey to reach these goals. Following high school graduation, she joined the Air Force specializing in Law Enforcement. She trained at the Military Police Academy in San Antonio, Texas and then worked with Security Forces at Nellis Air Force Base. Upon completing college Tracy transferred to the Air Force Reserves, working in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. She retired from the military after 21 ½ years. Tracy began her career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1997. Following 9-11 she was activated to Active Military for one year. After that it was back on patrol with Metro. Her promotion to Detective in 2003 allowed her to work in the Child Sex Abuse Special Victims Unit, putting away the worst of human kind—those who prey on children. In 2009 she was transferred to her present position. At the same time, Tracy used her vacation time to train in Quantico with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She is one of the few officers who have the distinction of serving both agencies, at the discretion of her commanding officers, working special assignments at the same time, until her retirement from the FBI several years ago. What an amazing story of setting goals and wearing as many hats as necessary to reach those goals. Tracy certainly deserves the title of “Woman Warrior.” NvFRW Spring Board Meeting The Nevada Federation of Republican Women (NvFRW) Spring Board Meeting will be held on Friday & Saturday, April 20 - 21, 2012 at The Gold Coast Hotel & Casino and is open to all NvFRW members and guests. She joined Southern Hills Republican Women on December 5, 2005 as one of our charter members. In 2008 she joined the Board as Co-Treasurer and served one year. She then began working as hostess at our luncheons greeting people as they arrived. For the past three years Veronica has capably headed our audit committee. She is always the first to volunteer for everything from the Lincoln Day Dinner, to conventions, to our state caucus. No task has been too large or too small for her participation. Veronica does not just help but often is fully responsible for whatever need exists such as managing the gift exchange table at our Christmas luncheons or auditing our club’s books. Once a job is turned over to Veronica one can rest assured it will be executed efficiently and politely, always with a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She has been an asset to our organization and a valued member. All our best wishes are extended to Veronica as she moves on in her life. She leaves many friends and we wish her well. This is more than $4 trillion higher than when President Barack Obama took office less than three years ago. The Heritage Foundation states that the federal government is currently “ racing toward a $17 trillion dollar debt”. Heritage has set forth six objectives that should guide development of the annual federal budget: “(1) a tighter budget, (2) a balanced budget, (3) fixes to entitlements, (4) no tax hikes, (5) job-creating, pro-growth tax reform, and (6) a strong national defense.” Unfortunately, Washington is not moving fast enough to rectify the problem, and they are ignoring the root of the problem: spending. Take a look at the U.S. debt: http://www.usdebtclock.org. Here you will find the U.S. debt broken down by a number a number of categories including: Medicare/Medicaid; social security; net interest on debt; federal pensions, etc. Take a serious look at who you elect in 2012 and let’s get our country on the right track. www.SHRWhendersonrepublicanwomen.com National Federation of Republican Women Affirms GOP Support of Women at Board Meeting Refutes Democrats' Claim of 'Republican War on Women' NEW ORLEANS – More than 250 Republican women leaders from across the nation gathered at the National Federation of Republican Women’s (NFRW) spring board meeting in New Orleans on March 15-17 to prepare for the 2012 elections and to declare that the latest Democrat media strategy is just a cheap political ploy. “Democrats are running around squawking about a ‘Republican War on Women,’” NFRW President Rae Lynne Chornenky said. “They are ignoring the indisputable fact that the NFRW has more than 75,000 female members whose leadership, influence, skill and passion for conservative principles form the backbone of our party, and have for more than 70 years. This liberal campaign scheme is clearly a sign of desperation and is simply not rooted in fact.” Chornenky encouraged attendees to stand strong during this critical campaign year. “It will take all of us, working as a unified team, to restore effective leadership to our great nation. We must elect a Republican president and U.S. Senate in November, and maintain our numbers in the U.S. House and in state and local governments.” In preparation for the elections, attendees participated in workshops on the national political landscape and on counteracting voter fraud. In addition, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivered an inspirational keynote address on why conservative initiatives are working in his state and across the nation. Founded in 1938, the NFRW has thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation and in several U.S. territories, making it one of the largest women’s political organizations in the country. The grassroots organization works to promote the principles and objectives of the Republican Party, elect Republican candidates, inform the public through political education and activity, and increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government. I have my personal favorites, even my own hero who just happens to be a friend of my youngest daughter. I’m sure many of you have yours too. I wonder though how many of you have heard of Lucy Barns, Alice Paul or maybe, Dora Lewis? These three women are some of the brave souls that we, in the United States can thank for our right to be able to march down to the polls and cast our VOTE! The Suffragette movement started in my homeland, Great Britain, it didn’t take long to spread to both sides of the Atlantic . Both Alice Paul and Lucy Burns took on Woodrow Wilson’s administration calling him “Kaiser Wilson” and comparing the plight of German women to those of women living in our own country. Change began to happen in the U.K. with the onset of WWI. Suddenly the movement took second place to the serious shortage of able bodied men in the workplace. Women were needed to step forward and fill the shoes of men who were now off to war. This gave a whole new glow to women and what they were capable of; much like a generation later, “Rosie the riveter” and that generation did for the Untied States. In 1918, on February 6, the “Representation of the People Act” was passed giving women over the age of 30 the right to vote in the U.K. Here at home though, our ladies were not doing as well. On November 15, 1917, on what became known as the Night of Terror, the suffragettes were imprisoned to teach them a lesson. After all, how dare they picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right to vote? For many weeks they were beaten and given only water, and filthy water at that. It has been written that the water, in many cases even had worms in it. There were 33 women in all and the only charge had been obstructing traffic on the sidewalk. By the way, it is interesting to note ladies, that Wilson was a Democrat. Lucy Burns was beaten, hung to the bars by chains all night. Alice went on a hunger strike and was finally force fed with a tube pushed down her throat. They were held for weeks. When you think what these women went through it makes you wonder why so many people today will find so many reasons why they don’t vote. For example, I’m playing Mahjongg that day, have a golf tourny, got to baby sit the grand-kids… and so on. When it gets close to voting time ladies, please remember this story and take your friends with you to the polls… Tell them it is an hour out of their day for Dora, Alice and Lucy’s honor. FIVE WISHES By Rana Goodman I know most people don't want to talk about hospice care, and those "special decisions" that must be made when the time comes, but it is reality and we are all getting to an age when we have to face it. I recently signed those dreaded papers with my attorney, you know, no respirators bla-bla-bla. But at the last Senior Citizen's Advisory Commission I heard a speaker from Nathan Adelson Hospice who spoke about a program I knew nothing about and I'd like to share some of that information with you. I urge you to contact them for the brochure so that you can fill out the forms, if it interests you, and have some data handy. THE FIVE WISHES: 1: The person I want to make decisions for me when I cannot 2: The kind of medical treatment I want or don’t want 3: How comfortable I want to be 4: How I want people to treat me 5: What I want my loved ones to know The program of FIVE WISHES goes beyond a living will because it talks about emotional, spiritual and personal needs as well as your medical wishes. It, of course lets you chose the person you designate to make these choices for you when you are not able to do it for yourself. Five Wishes lets you put in writing exactly how you wish to be treated should you get seriously ill. The plan was written with the help of the American Bar Association's Commission on Law and Aging along with the nation's leading experts in end of life care. When I heard this speaker I realized that my children wouldn't have to guess what I would want or rely on their emotions. My wishes would be in black and white and hard choices would be made for them. Log on to this site and you will be able to read more about it. http://www.agingwithdignity.org/ It will be well worth your time. The booklet is eleven pages long and I don't want to bore you with more data here but all you need is on the web site above.
