TIME MAGAZINE AND GOODYEAR HONOR SAN MARCOS DEALER Chuck Nash Wins National Recognition for Community Service and Industry Accomplishments at NADA Convention (New Orleans, LA, January 24, 2009) - Chuck Nash, President ofChuck Nash Auto Group, a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Pontiac and Jeep dealership in San Marcos, Texas, was honored today for his nomination for the 2009 TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year award. Nash was one of a select group of dealers from across the country honored at the 92nd annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Convention & Exposition in New Orleans today. The announcement of this year's Dealer of the Year and finalists was made by Don Fries, Publisher of TIME Magazine, and Johann Finkelmeier, Vice President and General Manager of Original Equipment Tires, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, at the formal opening of the convention, which is attended by more than 25,000 individuals involved in the automobile industry. The TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry's most prestigious and highly coveted awards for new-car dealers. Recipients are among the nation's most successful auto dealers, but they must also demonstrate a longstanding commitment to effective community service. Nash, 57, was chosen to represent the Austin Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition--one of only 49 automobile dealers, from more than 19,500 nationwide, nominated for the 40th annual award. The award is sponsored by TIME Magazine in association with Goodyear, and in cooperation with NADA. A panel of faculty members from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan selects each finalist. A third-generation automobile dealer, Nash says, "My real introduction into the business began at age eight. The wrecker driver at the family dealership, Capitol Chevrolet, was my babysitter, and it was exciting to ride with him on his calls." After graduating high school in 1969, Nash, a member of the Texas Air National Guard for six years, attended Angelo State and St. Edward's universities, in Austin, but he began full time employment selling used cars at Capitol Chevrolet in 1972. Over the next four years, Nash advanced to used car sales manager, service and parts director, then new car sales manager. Upon returning from Chevrolet's School of Merchandising and Management (Dealers Sons' School) in 1975, Nash announced his desire to lead the family business. His father, Charles, had another idea. "I was encouraged to go and 'find my own,'" says Nash. "Thirty miles south, in San Marcos, after two years of negotiation, I purchased Scrutchin Cauthorn Motor Company. At 26 years of age, I became the owner-operator of Chuck Nash Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Buick." In addition to his business success, Nash has been deeply involved in local, regional, state and national civic causes and organizations, including the Board of Directors, Seton Hospital Development Foundation; President, San Marcos Chamber of Commerce; Chairman, San Marcos Airport Commission; Chairman, San Marcos River Foundation; Director, First National Bank of San Marcos; Director, Southwest Texas Development Board; Chairman, Boy Scout Fundraiser in Hays County; and Chief of Naval Operations for Admiral Club. Nash, a longtime backer of the campaigns of both George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, was appointed by Texas Governor Bill Clements to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission in March 1987, and was named Chairman in July 1988. Nash, who served on the Commission from 1987-1993, calls this responsibility, "truly the pinnacle of my service to the great State of Texas." Nominated for the TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year award by Michael T. Marks, Executive Director of the Austin Automobile Dealers Association, and Bill Walters, Texas Automobile Dealers Association, Chuck Nash lives in San Marcos with his wife, Elizabeth. The couple has three daughters, Anne Nash-Davies, Katherine and Caroline. ### TIME is a global multimedia brand that includes TIME. com, TIME Style & Design, TIME for KIDS and Timeforkids.com. (830) 626-2272 ext 101 nblackwell@casacentex.org CASA to host 5k/1k and half-marathon fundraising races on March 1st to benefit abused and neglected children CASA of Central Texas is again teaming up with local race director Moe Johnson, the San Marcos Runners Club and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas to host the Speak Up For Kids CASA 5k and 1k Fun Runs and the ARA’s Moe’s Better Half Marathon fundraising race events March 1, 2009. This event is a true community partnership bringing together a 20+-year half-marathon tradition, the annual 5k race and a 1k Kids Fun Run, all to benefit abused and neglected children in Central Texas. The race has an additional special meaning this year as it is being held in honor of the late Hays County Sherriff Allen Bridges. The races will be “three in one” with the half-marathon runners taking off at 7 a.m. from the Tanger Outlet Center in San Marcos. The half-marathon is on a rolling, certified course with some challenging hills through the countryside east of the Center. The 5k (not certified) runners will start at 7:15 a.m. on an out-and-back over the first part of the half-marathon course, and the 1k will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m. The half marathon will be chip-timed and 5k runners have the option of participating in either the competitive or fun run. Pre-registration entry fees post-marked by Feb. 21 are $35 for the half-marathon, $20 for the competitive 5k and $15 for the 5k fun run. Late registration through race day is $45 and $25, respectively. The entry fee for the 1k is $10, ages 12 and younger. There is no late fee for the 5k and 1k Fun Runs Awards will be presented in the half marathon to the male and female Overall, Masters (40-49), Senior Masters (50-59) and Grand Masters (60 and over) champions, and to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age division (5 year age groups). In the competitive 5k, awards will be presented to the Overall male and female winners, male and female Masters winners and the tope 3 male and female finishers in each age division. All Kids 1k Fun Run finishers will receive a commemorative gift. There are no awards for the 5k Fun Run. The awards presentation will be at 9:30a.m. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system by recruiting, training, and supporting community volunteers. Advocating for children in this area for almost 23 years, CASA acts as the eyes and ears of the Child Protection Court Judge and we “SPEAK UP” on behalf of the children’s best interests. In 2008, CASA of Central Texas served 246 children in Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays Counties but there were an estimated 500 or more ADDITIONAL children who did not have the voice of a CASA. The funds raised from these events will help provide more advocates for more children. All participants in the half-marathon will receive a short-sleeved high-tech T-shirt, a nice pen and a ceramic coffee mug. All participants in the 5k and 1k will receive a short-sleeved 50-50 T-shirt. Race sponsorships are still available and start at just $100. Businesses and organizations are also encouraged to provide CASA with promotional items that will be included in all of the runners’ bags. For more information, race registration, to sponsor or to volunteer at this event, visit www.casa5k.org or contact Tricia Schneider at (512) 392-3578 or tschneider@casacentex.org. Hopkins St, San Marcos, TX GUEST SPEAKER: E. Burke Huber, Attorney - Ogletree Deakins, Ogletree Deakins is one of America's leading labor and employment law firms. Organized labor has made passage of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) one of its top priorities. The EFCA contains massive changes to the nation's labor laws and could be one of the Obama Administration's early objectives. In its current form, the EFCA would (1) Change how unions are selected, by effectively eliminating the secret ballot vote in favor of card check certification; (2) Change the way collective bargaining is conducted, by authorizing expedited bargaining, followed by mediation and mandatory interest arbitration if the parties can't reach an agreement; and (3) Substantially increase penalties against employers for violations of the National Labor Relations Act. During this breakfast, we will provide guidance on what to expect and how to prepare, both in the short term and over the long haul, for this potential radical change in U.S. labor law BUSINESS AFTER-HOURS MIXER WHEN: Thursday, February 26 TIME: 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. WHERE: The San Marcos River Pub and Grille Don’t forget to bring plenty of business cards!
