All students must take RELS 2600: “Approaches to the Study of Religion” and Religious Studies 4600: “Senior Seminar. In addition, students must take two religious studies courses each in “Cultural Studies,” “Textual Studies,” and “Historical Studies.” Also students must take two additional elective courses of their own choosing. Within this framework, students have flexibility in designing their own program of study in consultation with an advisor, so students declaring as sophomores and even in their junior year can usually finish their degree on schedule. Credit Hours Religious Studies 30 hours General Education* 33-40 hours Foreign Language 0-6 hours Electives RELS 2600 and 4600 will count towards university requirements for the Writing Intensive requirement and RELS 4600 for Oral Communications.. Does not include required writing intensive and oral communications courses included in the major. Transfer students with an associate’s degree are exempt from most General Education, but must complete Writing Intensive requirement. RELS majors must complete a foreign language up to the 1202 level, or have three years of a foreign language in high school, or have an associate’s degree from an accredited two-year college.
