No applications will be considered unless all of the following documents are present. Completed UWP Exemption Request form (available online). A copy of the statement of transfer credit from GW from the Admissions Office (or an unofficial GW transcript if have already matriculated at the University. Can be obtained from your academic advisor, Colonial Central, or GWeb.) Syllabus from the course(s) you are looking to have count as UW1020. A research-based writing sample. Writing in the Disciplines (WID) All WID exemption requests must be received by the deadlines below for the semester prior to the semester in which the student is scheduled to graduate. Exemption requests filed later than this point will be rejected out-of-hand. WID Exemption requests are reviewed March 15 and November 15 of each academic year. Exemption requests will not be considered at other times. Requests for exemption will receive an email response within two weeks of the deadline. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO GRADUATE, the following are your final exemption deadlines. They are timed to allow a semester for you to take a WID in the event your request is denied: a. Graduation at the end of Spring or Summer Semester: The last date to submit an exemption request is November 15 of the previous Fall semester. b. Graduation at the end of Fall Semester: The last date to submit an exemption request is March 15 of the previous Spring semester. Please note that requests to count non-WID courses for WID credit simply because they include papers and other writing assignments are not likely to be approved. WID courses must meet several goals or criteria and be approved in advance by a faculty committee. Note that your writing sample and the writing skills on display in your petition constitute important sources of evidence that will be carefully considered in evaluating your Exemption Request.
