2015 - Present Project Manager. “Elite Framing and the War on Immigrants.” Funded through
North Carolina State University’s CHASS Scholarship and Research Award with Dr.
Kim Ebert. Supervised research assistants; co-authored letter of inquiry for Russell
Sage Foundation Presidential Award; developed data management plan; in the
process of collecting and analyzing data (local, regional, and national newspaper
articles; governmental archival data; immigration legislation; and private prison
company records) using NVivo software.
2013 - Present Project Manager. “‘Immigration Law without Immigrants: Media’s Role in the
Maintenance of Symbolic Boundaries.” Funded through ASA/NSF Improvement of
the Discipline Grant with Dr. Kim Ebert. Developed a sampling strategy and design;
selected cases; collected data (state-level immigration legislation and newspaper
articles on legislation); developed codebook; coded and analyzed data using NVivo
software; lead author of manuscript.
2012
Research Assistant for Kim Ebert. Contributed to the development of “Migration in
Context: The Effects of Immigrant Receiving Contexts on Mexican Americans”;
collected data (newspaper articles); and constructed coding rubric.
2011 - 2012
Research Assistant for Kim Ebert. Coded state-level immigration legislation in
Microsoft Access and developed a literature review.
