SUMMARY
Responsible for the financial performance of the Division (i.e., has Profit and Loss
accountability); serves as a member of the company Executive Team (President, GM’s and
CFO for high level policy decisions) and the company Management Team (all operational and
support staff department managers) responsible for developing and executing the company’s
business plans.

Responsible for achieving the revenue and profitability goals of the Division in
accordance with the company business plan.
Ensures that the Division has requisite goals, plans and budgets to achieve current
and long term financial and operational goals as noted in the company’s multi­year
business plan.
Serves as the Sales and Marketing Manager for the Division’s Estimator/Project
Manager (E/PM) staff. This will include such functions as:
a. Ensuring that the Division has an effective Marketing Plan and integration of the
Division’s Business Development resources into the sales process (with such
Business Development personnel reporting to the GM).
b. Development and/or implementation of all requisite sales management processes
(e.g., development of a comprehensive Division Sales Plan; development and
utilization of client profiles, business acquisition strategies, follow up actions, etc.
as part of a formal customer relationship management system; goal setting and
tracking for the E/PM team and individual members; coaching and development
for individual team members; implementation of performance based
compensation systems; etc.).
c. Maintaining relationships with key clients in order to acquire new business and
to introduce new E/PM team members into the relationship as needed over
time.
d. Others as deemed necessary.
Ensures that field operations are conducted so as to achieve quality, schedule and
cost objectives in accordance with applicable contracts, plans and company policies

and procedures.

Ensures that company safety goals are achieved and that all work environments
emphasize vigilance and consistency in the applications of safety measures.

Maintains excellent relations with key suppliers so that materials are obtained at the
best possible prices and support activities are maintained at desired levels.

Ensures that company tools and equipment are maintained and accounted for in
accordance with existing company policies and good business practices.
8.
Ensures that the Division’s current staffing needs are met and that personnel
acquisition, development, and retention policies are executed so as to ensure that the
Division’s future manpower needs are met consistent with the company’s multi­year
business plan.
9.
Ensures that management and supervisory development and succession plans are
executed so that orderly and effective succession is accomplished for all key
positions (even if only temporarily pending a new hire) starting with the position of
General Manager.
10.
Implements the company Performance Management System ensuring that all
personnel have performance objectives or results oriented job descriptions and that
all personnel receive regular and effective performance reviews or feedback. This
process will ensure that all personnel understand clearly and at all times what is
expected of them and how well they are performing.

Develops and/or maintains processes or procedures that ensure effective
communications within the Division and between the Division and all other company
organization elements.

Other duties as assigned by the President.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The GM manages the Division’s personnel in San Diego providing guidance and assistance as
needed in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. These supervisory
responsibilities include hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and
monitoring work; conducting regular performance reviews; addressing complaints and resolving
problems; maintaining good order and discipline and all such other actions as may be necessary
to maintain an effective organization. The GM interviews and evaluates potential new
employees and negotiates wages for them consistent with general company guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or
ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent is preferred. Five to ten years of senior management
experience in a construction company, painting company or other relevant experience may
suffice. It is also possible that some combination of training, education, and experience may also
be sufficient.
KNOWLEDGE
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the industry and/or related industry processes is
necessary.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
This person must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business contracts,
plans, requests for proposals, relevant business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. The GM must have the ability to write reports,
business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Strong communication skills are needed
including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions verbally and/or in
writing from management, employees, clients, contractors, and others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
This person must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,
commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, rates, ratios, percents and
be able to draw and interpret graphs. The ability to work with mathematical concepts such as
probability and statistical inference is also necessary.
REASONING ABILITY
This position requires the ability to define problems or opportunities, collect relevant supporting
facts or other data, draw valid conclusions and make recommendations or articulate decisions.
It will be necessary to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables. This person must have the ability to organize and
prioritize a wide variety of issues and actions and project future issues. Reasoning here also
includes the ability to interact effectively with others and to know when to involve superiors,
peers clients, suppliers or other parties in resolving issues.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; use

The employee normally works in a standard office environment where the noise level is usually
quiet. The employee regularly visits painting and construction job sites, clients and potential
clients, suppliers, and others related to business where the work environment and conditions will
vary from location to location.
