LSU Online is conducting faculty focus group sessions on May 6th and 12th. The purpose of
the focus groups is to obtain faculty feedback about LSU Online, gaining valuable insights into
how to leverage resources to enhance online programs.

Sloan-C Training Opportunities
Free to LSU Faculty and Staff!
LSU Online is offers online professional development through the Sloan Consortium
(Sloan-C). LSU Online faculty can enroll in Sloan-C Workshops (1 week in duration)
or the Sloan-C Certificate Program (9 weeks + 3 workshops) at no cost to you!
“New to Online: The Essentials” is the entry-level Sloan-C Workshop for
faculty/staff. Upcoming workshops are scheduled for:

Video Captioning Services for Faculty Members
The Faculty Technology Center is currently piloting a video captioning
service for faculty on campus to further aid in the compliance with ADA
standards, and to help promote video usage in learning environments.
There are no fees associated with this service, and videos will remain in
the same place where they were uploaded. After the video(s) have been
captioned, the instructor will be informed, and he or she will need to
ensure the accuracy of the captions. This service only applies to videos
which are related to courses taught at LSU. If you are interested in
participating in this pilot, please email to Digital Media Consultant

LSU Online Faculty Orientation
“One Stop Shopping” for online teaching information
LSU Online is excited to announce the development of LSU Online Faculty
Orientation. Various orientation sessions are held prior to the beginning of each
new module to provide faculty with much needed information to be successful in
the online teaching environment.
“The Faculty Orientation is designed to provide LSU Online faculty with all of
the information they need, prior to the start of their class beginning, so that they
can feel comfortable with teaching in the LSU Online format” explained LSU
Online Director, Dr. Charity Bryan.
Currently, all faculty teaching in LSU Online are required to attend one
orientation session. Information covered in the LSU Online Faculty Orientation
includes:


What is the status of my Graduate School application?
Students may log in to their LSU Graduate School application through Hobson’s Apply
Yourself (https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplicantLogin/fl_ApplicantLogin.asp?
id=gradlsu) at any time and view the status of their application and when it was last
updated. Hobson’s login credentials are created at the time of the application submission.

What does it mean if my graduate application is “under review
by the department”?
Graduate programs at LSU recommend admission decisions to the Graduate School. Upon
receiving sufficient application materials for review, departments notify the Graduate
School of their admissions recommendation. The Graduate School then processes the
application, evaluates all transcripts and makes the final decision on admission. To
ensure the fastest decision possible ensure you have sent ALL required documents to the
Graduate School.

What is the price of tuition for an online class?
The price of tuition varies among the LSU online programs per credit hour. Please refer to
the LSU Online Orientation website for specific prices.

Do I ever need to appear at the LSU campus for LSU Online
programs?
No, you do not. LSU Online programs are 100% online and require no on-campus
appearance. Check with your program for any activities or events that may be available
to you should you be in in the Baton Rouge area.

Do I need to request LSU transcripts for LSU Online?
If you attended LSU A&M in Baton Rouge, you do NOT need to request your LSU
transcript. However, if you attended any other LSU campus including the Law School,
please request that official transcripts be sent to the appropriate PO Box listed on page 8.

Is financial aid available for online students?
Yes, students in an LSU Online graduate program may be eligible for financial aid. For more information email your questions to financialaid@lsu.edu

How do I find out who my advisor and/or class instructor is?
Your advisor will be assigned by your department. Feel free to contact your department for specifics
as to who your instructor will be for a class. Generally, Moodle (the class delivery system) displays
class information at least 10 to 14 days before the class begins. Instructions for Moodle are covered
in the LSU Online Orientation. Contact information for advising assistance can be found at:

Do I have a student ID number as an online student?
Yes the first place to find this is on your decision letter. LSU cannot mail you your LSU ID number
for security purposes.

Do I get a student ID card?
Students in a LSU Online program may apply for and receive an LSU ID card (“Tiger Card”). Instructions for obtaining the ID card can be found at:

I have been admitted: Now what do I do?
After submission of your application you received an email with PAWS lite account information,
including a temporary LSU ID number. This will remain your ID number upon admission so please
keep the information in a safe place. The PAWS account allows you to log in to your LSU email
account. After admission, you will receive an orientation letter in your LSU email account with
information regarding your registration, orientation, and other details about your graduate education
at LSU Online.

Do I have to attend orientation?
LSU Online Orientation is available virtually. Upon admission, you will receive an email in your LSU
email account which provides links to orientation information.

New student checklist
Task:
1. The Student Services orientation provides important information on the academic
calendar, refund policies, registration procedures, and other critical services. Access the
Student Services orientation at http://catalog.lsu.edu/index.php?catoid=11.
2. The Moodle/Student orientation provides you with technical requirements and
support details, critical information on academic integrity and other basics for
successfully navigating your course. Access the Student Orientation on Moodle at
http://http://www.lsu.edu/lsuonlineorientationcourse . When prompted for an
enrollment key, enter LSU2013.
3. If you are a new student entering an LSU Online program, you are required to set up
an account with ProctorU and walk through an initial identify verification process. In
order to complete the process, you must meet ProctorU’s technical requirements
(computer with high-speed Internet, web cam, and microphone, etc.) and pay the
associated charge. Please take a moment, if you have not yet done so, to complete this
process. Visit ProctorU’s website (http://proctoru.com/portal/lsu/auth.php) to setup your
account and to walk through the one-time “Student Authentication” procedure. Once
you have completed this step, you will have access to your LSU Online Moodle
courses.
4. At the discretion of each faculty member, exam proctoring may also be provided by
ProctorU. Review Exam Proctoring at www.lsu.edu/lsuonline/examproctoring for
important information on this process.
5. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application for Stafford
(subsidized and unsubsidized) and PLUS loan programs. This application should be
completed each year after January 1st and can be found at www.fafsa.gov.
6. If you have not completed the registration process (i.e., scheduled courses AND
paid fees) through myLSU, it is imperative that you do so as soon as

7. If your admission was provisional and you have questions about clearing your
admissions file, please contact gradonline@lsu.edu.
8. In collaboration with other University departments, LSU Online is committed to
providing appropriate auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities in an effort

How to Drop/Resign
LSU Online Students Only
Dropping Courses
A course may be dropped in accordance with the dates in the Academic/Registration Calendar.
Students will initiate the drop using the MyLSU application.
Procedure to Drop a Course:
During the drop/add period dropping a course is done via the myLSU Portal as follows.
1. Access the myLSU Portal
2. Select “Registration Services” from the menu on the left side of the screen.
3. Select “Schedule Request” from the drop down menu that displays.
4. On the Schedule Request panel, select “LSU” as your campus, select the appropriate module,
and click on “View Schedule Request.”
5. When your schedule request appears, click on the “Drop” button for the course you want to
drop.

Resignation
Dropping an entire course load constitutes resignation from the University for that module. A
student who abandons courses without resigning will receive a grade of “F” in each course.
Graduate Students
A graduate student who wishes to resign must first secure approval of the dean of the Graduate
School. Send your request to gradonline@lsu.edu. Completion of resignation involves clearance
by certain administrative divisions of the university as shown on the resignation form.
Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management Students
A student pursuing the Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management who wishes
to resign must first secure approval of the dean of the College of Engineering. Send your request
to engr@lsu.edu. Completion of resignation involves clearance by certain administrative divisions
of the University as shown on the resignation form.
