Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Medical Center (Rusk) has been ranked the best
rehabilitation program in New York State and among the top ten in the country by U.S.
News & World Report since 1989. Rusk is internationally renowned for the treatment of
adults and children with injuries and disabilities, offering the full continuum of inpatient
and outpatient care—physical, occupational, speech/swallowing and vocational therapy,
psychology, music and recreational therapy, nutrition, nursing, and social work—for a
wide range of conditions. Specialty programs and services include:
The CARF-Accredited Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program is tailored for patients who
have medical, physical, cognitive, and behavioral changes as a result of a brain injury or
neurological illness.
The CARF-Accredited Stroke Program offers an interdisciplinary team with specialized
training in the medical, nursing or therapeutic care and treatment of stroke patients.
The Concussion Center is a collaborative effort between Rusk Rehabilitation and the
Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurology, providing expert, multidisciplinary
evaluation and treatment of individuals who have or are suspected of having a
concussion.
Our Amputee Program provides specialized limb loss rehabilitation to patients who
have undergone amputations.
The Joan and Joel Smilow Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation & Prevention Center
offers a model of transitional care for patients with cardiac and lung conditions.
Orthopaedic/Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation is offered for patients with back, neck,
hip, elbow and shoulder disorders, arthritis-related joint pain, conditions affecting the
bones, tendon, ligaments and muscles, and for pre- and post-surgical patients.
Sports Injury Rehabilitation addresses the needs of patients with sports-related
conditions, including post-operative rehabilitation for patients who require orthopaedic
surgery.
Our Spinal Cord Injury program offers a comprehensive, patient-centered array of
specialized and innovative clinical and educational programs to optimize quality of life.

The Women’s Health Rehab Program addresses issues that uniquely affect women,
including pelvic floor muscle dysfunction/pain, urinary incontinence, cancer
rehabilitation and lymphedema, and prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal
conditions.
Vestibular Rehabilitation addresses the evaluation and treatment of patients suffering
from dizziness and imbalance.
Chest Physical Therapy cares for individuals with lung congestion, secretion retention
or areas of lung collapse.
Rehabilitation Psychology provides care to patients with neurological and medical
conditions.
Speech-Language Pathology & Swallowing is dedicated to patients with
communication disorders due to neurological problems as well as diagnosis and
management of swallowing and feeding disorders.
Vocational Services provides disabled individuals with the competencies needed to
return to school or work and to lead a productive life.
