Pedagogy
Which Characteristics of Effective Instruction are you planning on targeting?
þ Student Centered Classrooms
þ Teaching for Understanding
Assessment for Learning
Rigorous and Relevant Curriculum
Teaching for Learner Differences
These characteristics were picked because the lesson will be focusing on a classroom that is
mainly student-centered with student collaboration and critical thinking and will be teaching for
understanding of the content using technology. This lesson closely follows Domains 1, 2 & 3, of
the NYS Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching (2013).
Technology
What are the Technology Literacy areas you will be targeting within your lesson?
Creativity and Innovation
þ Communication and Collaboration
Research and Information Fluency
þ Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Digital Citizenship
þ Technology Operations and Concepts
Technology will be used to communicate the content to the students and used by the students,
which in turn will promote collaboration, critical thinking and decision-making when students
are in small groups. This lesson closely follows standards 2, 4 & 6 of the ISTE (National
Technology Standards).
Essential Concepts and Skills
What are the Essential Concepts and Skills that you will be specifically targeting?
þ Learning and Innovation Skills
þ Information, Media and Technology Skills
Life and Career Skills
This lesson will be focusing on learning, information, media, and technology skills. Students
should know how to use a computer to conduct a virtual lab on mitosis, and use their knowledge
to promote critical thinking and collaboration skills.
Prior Knowledge
Students will already know the stages of mitosis and know how to use a computer, while
working effectively with their peers.
Objectives
Students will be able to effectively follow directions on conducting a virtual lab on the computer.
