A committee of community stakeholders, music educators from all over the state of Michigan and several BBBC musicians worked on this initiative. This band was an inclusive group, did not require an audition, and had no fee to participate. More than 100 youth from all over the state of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Virginia registered to participate in this event. This ensemble gave youth in ninth through twelfth grade an opportunity to study with Major Dwayne Milburn (Deputy Commander of the US Army Field Band), attend leadership skill building sessions with leadership clinician Fran Kick (www.kickinit.com), participate in group lessons with and play beside world-class brass and percussion musicians. Students were able to network with each other, BBBC musicians and build friendships that will last a lifetime. The Youth Brass Band Day in 2014 took place on May 16, 2014.
