New Students
New students must create an account before
registering for classes. See madisoncollege.edu/

To create an account
You must use your Social Security Number (SSN).
If you do not have or do not want to disclose an SSN,
you are required to create an account in person
with a photo ID at the Truax or Downtown Enrollment
Office or at any regional or metro campus office.
New accounts cannot be created by phone.
To activate your account
Once you have created your account, you can activate
it using your SSN or the Student ID number given to
you when you created your account in person.

For an evaluation of your transfer credits or to find
out if classes you’ve taken can be applied toward
prerequisite requirements, an official transcript must be
on record prior to class registration. For information on
the process of requesting a transfer credit evaluation,
go to madisoncollege.edu, click on the A–Z Index and
scroll to “Transfer Credit.”

How to Read the Class Listings
Title: Class titles are listed above the class number(s).
Class titles may be abbreviated.
• TelePresence – Classes use the latest high definition video and
audio technology to connect to two or more locations.
Catalog No.: The 8-digit catalog number is listed with the title.
The catalog number is listed on program curriculum sheets and is
helpful to search for classes you need to fulfill program requirements.
• Online – All class instruction is delivered over the Internet
Class No.: Use class numbers, the unique 5-digit numbers
assigned to class sections, to register for classes.
Type of Class: If listed, type of class refers to an alternative method
of delivery. Delivery methods include:

ccelerated – Classes taught in an accelerated format;
contact the program office for details
•H
ybrid – Classes combine aspects of face-to-face instruction
with online training
• ITV – Class offered at one or more locations via interactive
television
•S
hort Term – Classes are completed over a shorter period of time
than full-semester classes

How to Start Smart
Admissions
Student Parking
For information on a degree program, visit our website at
madisoncollege.edu, click on “Apply/Register,” and scroll
to “Admissions Process” or contact the Enrollment Center
at (608) 246-6210 or 1-800-322-6282, ext. 6210. To apply
for a program, use the convenient online application at
madisoncollege.edu.
A valid student parking permit is required for all vehicles
parked on any Madison-based campus facility with the
exception of Downtown (There is no student parking at
this location). A student parking permit is included in the
commuter supplemental fee. Please check the Madison
College website for complete information (from the
homepage, click on the A–Z Index and scroll to “Parking”).
Request parking at the time of registration. All permits must
be ordered online. You can sign up for parking through
myMadisonCollege, Student Center. Once the semester
has started, you can pick up your student permit at
Public Safety, Truax Campus, Room 117. Permits will
not be mailed. They must be picked up in person with a
valid OneCard.
You do not need to be in a program to register for classes.
However, some classes may be restricted to program
students only, and you will not be eligible for financial aid
unless admitted into a qualified degree program.
Tuition & Fees
Students are responsible for paying the tuition and
fees upon registration by the due date specified.
Account balance information is available online. Visit
madisoncollege.edu and sign on to your Student Center
through myMadisonCollege. Degree credit courses are
billed electronically using students’ Madison College email
accounts. Nondegree (Continuing Education) courses are
billed by mail within 14 days of registration.
Class fees listed are based on the 2012–13 academic year
and are subject to change.
Students at least 60 years old may qualify for reduced
program fees. For more information, see madisoncollege.
edu/fee-exemption.
Auditing: Students may audit degree credit courses for no
credit or grade. Auditing must be selected at the time of
registration. Audit students pay the same fees as students
taking the class for credit. See madisoncollege.edu/
registration-policy for details and restrictions.

Withdrawals & Refunds
Students are responsible for withdrawing from class.
Withdrawals are not permitted after 90% of class
completion. Instructors cannot add, drop or withdraw
students from class. Dropping classes may affect financial
aid and/or veterans education benefits. Check with the
appropriate office.
If a student officially drops a class, tuition and fees
are adjusted based on the college’s fee refund/reduction
policy. For more information, go to madisoncollege.edu/
refunds.
Nonattendance does not reduce fees owed.
Emergencies
Students should leave a copy of their class schedule
(including classroom numbers and where they can be
found between classes) with a roommate, parent, spouse,
babysitter and/or neighbor. In the event of an emergency,
call (608) 243-4357 to help locate a student.
Basic Skills Education and ELL
Individualized basic skills education and English Language
Learning (ELL) instruction is available during the following
times as each student’s schedule permits. Registration
must be done in person. For more information, go to

Outreach courses are available at various sites in Madison
and surrounding the area. Registration for outreach
courses is completed on location. Some locations
include: Center for Adult Learning (CAL) at Commercial
Avenue, Dane County Job Center and Northport/Packers
Community Centers. For more information about these
and other outreach sites, please call (608) 258-2440.
Other Special Programs, (608) 258-2440
Special programs include Workplace Education (WPE) in
partnership with businesses, High School Equivalency
Programs (HEP) for migrant/seasonal farm workers,
Institutionalized Adult Services for jail inmates and
Compulsory Law classes in collaboration with high
schools. Call for information.
HSED (High School Equivalency Diploma)
A high school equivalency diploma may be earned by
first passing five GED (General Educational Development)
tests. The tests, which take from 65 minutes to two hours,
cover writing, reading, mathematics, social studies and
science. Students also must meet requirements in health,
civics literacy, career awareness and employment skills.
Eligibility
A Wisconsin resident may take the GED tests if they are at
least 18 1/2 years old, or 18 and the class they entered as
a ninth grader has graduated from high school, or if they
are at least 17 years old and special circumstances apply.

HEP (High School Equivalency Program)
The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a free
program designed to graduate seasonal and/or migrant
agricultural workers with their GED and help transition
them into a higher wage earning career or the educational
program of their choice. For more information please call
