OUR CORPORATE WORK-STUDY MODEL
All Cristo Rey Network students participate in a Corporate Work-Study Program
through which they finance part of the cost of their education, gain real world job
experience, grow in self-confidence, and realize the relevance of their education.
Some of the nation’s largest corporations, such as Best Buy, Goldman Sachs, Price
Waterhouse Coopers, Ernst & Young, and Texas Instruments are network corporate
partners. This year Network schools will contract with corporations to secure more
than 1,600 work-study jobs for our students. The Corporate Work-Study Program is
the key to member schools’ financial sustainability and long-term success. Assigned
to a 4-member job sharing team, each student works 5 days per month to cover a
standard 40-hour workweek. The team’s income is divided up among the students
and assigned to the school to cover a majority of the cost of their education. The
academic schedule is structured such that a student never misses class time.

MISSION & OVERVIEW
The Cristo Rey Network prepares young people with limited options for success in
college. Most of our students qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.
The Cristo Rey Network of schools was founded in 2001 when leaders from groups
in Portland, Oregon, Cleveland, Denver, and New York hoping to replicate Cristo Rey
Jesuit High School of Chicago gathered for the first time to learn more about the
model school. In 2003, the Cristo Rey Network was formally organized as a
501(c)(3) organization. The Members of the Cristo Rey Network are high schools
approved by the Board. Each member school agrees to adhere to the 10 Mission
Effectiveness Standards of the Cristo Rey Network. Today, dozens of foundations,
including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and individual donors throughout the
country have contributed to the efforts of the Cristo Rey Network.
Please contact the Network’s Director of Postsecondary Initiatives, Chris Broughton,
for further information on our University Partner Initiative.

conflicts sometimes prevent students from taking desired courses. As of Fall, 2011, ICA
students are offered 6 courses per semester in addition to their Corporate Work Study
Program (CWSP).
GRADING AND CLASS RANK
The calculation of a student’s academic standing is based on a weighted grade point average
and includes all courses (no extra points are given to Honors Biology, Honors Algebra II or
Honors Modern World History as in California they are considered 10th-grade subjects).
Valedictorian is selected on the basis of the highest 7th semester cumulative weighted GPA.
Grade reporting occurs 4 times per year with class rank based on a weighted semester grades.
Lowest passing mark is a D-. GPA is calculated on a 4.0 scale.
