Some of the nation’s largest corporations, such as Best Buy, Goldman Sachs, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Ernst & Young, and Texas Instruments are network corporate partners. This year Network schools will contract with corporations to secure more than 1,600 work-study jobs for our students. The Corporate Work-Study Program is the key to member schools’ financial sustainability and long-term success. Assigned to a 4-member job sharing team, each student works 5 days per month to cover a standard 40-hour workweek. The team’s income is divided up among the students and assigned to the school to cover a majority of the cost of their education. The academic schedule is structured such that a student never misses class time. Most of our students qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program. The Cristo Rey Network of schools was founded in 2001 when leaders from groups in Portland, Oregon, Cleveland, Denver, and New York hoping to replicate Cristo Rey Jesuit High School of Chicago gathered for the first time to learn more about the model school. In 2003, the Cristo Rey Network was formally organized as a 501(c)(3) organization. The Members of the Cristo Rey Network are high schools approved by the Board. Each member school agrees to adhere to the 10 Mission Effectiveness Standards of the Cristo Rey Network. Today, dozens of foundations, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and individual donors throughout the country have contributed to the efforts of the Cristo Rey Network.
