Chapter 6 That night, the king couldn’t fall asleep. He had the Book of Chronicles read to him. He heard the story of how Mordechai had saved his life, and he realized that such an act deserved a great reward. Just then, Haman entered his chamber, about to ask the king permission to hang Mordechai! The king asked Haman, “What should be done for a man whom the king wishes to honor?” Haman was overjoyed – he thought he himself was the one to be honored. So he suggested dressing him in the king’s clothes, placing him on the king’s horse with the royal crown on his head and parading him through the city square. The king told Haman to hurry and do all this for Mordechai, the Jew. Haman was shattered.
