I checked out a newish restaurant in
Warrington recently. A friend and I
went for a leisurely lunch at KC
Prime, a steakhouse on Easton
Road. What a treat! It was something special and didn't break the
bank. And thanks to some good
suggestions from our server, we hit it big in quality and
flavor. It's definitely on my list of good restaurants to revisit. You can check our review on page 20. My only
recommendations, well I have a few, but my strongest
recommendation is DESSERT. Read further and you'll
see what I mean.

Party Time?

THE LAST TWO WEEKS HAVE BEEN THE MOST EXCITING I CAN
EVER REMEMBER. I TRAVELED TO THREE SEPARATE CONTINENTS
AND FISHED ON MANY DIFFERENT RIVERS AND LAKES WITH
JEREMY WADE. WE CAUGHT HUGE FISH … SOME AS LARGE AS
EIGHT FEET LONG AND WEIGHING OVER TWO HUNDRED
POUNDS. MANY HAD UNBELIEVABLY LARGE SETS OF MULTIPLE
TEETH. IT WAS AMAZING. I CONFESS THAT I WILL NEVER JUMP
INTO ANOTHER POOL OF WATER OTHER THAN MY BATHTUB.
But I did even more. I wrestled with alligators in
Florida for fun and shot them for profit in Louisiana. I
also traveled to Africa on a Safari and watched lions
prove they are still King of the Jungle. I visited the
wilds of the Amazon, traveled the Nile and experienced the Outback of Australia. I played with penguins
in the Arctic and ran with the bulls in Pampona.
Before I forget to mention it, yours truly hunted wild
rats in Florida and nasty hogs in Texas. I even fought
with striking coal minors in South Africa and dodged
bullets in Syria.
Better yet, I visited pawn shops in Las Vegas, somewhere down south and the ugliest one ever in Detroit.
Ugh! I also participated in bidding wars for abandoned
lockers with "Barry and Co." in California and
Massachusetts. Auto auctions in various parts of
America were also on my agenda. Covered with
grease, I helped rebuild an old GTO and a badly beat
up Model T Ford found in a barn. I even visited with
Mountain Men in five different places across the country and lived with natives in the Rain Forest.
I helped investigate murders with the Law & Order
team and worked hand in hand with Dr. House to cure
some of the sickest people in the world. Yours truly
also helped expose cheating married men and women,
and viewed the actions of some Hollywood wives.
Judge Judy required my assistance. Even the three
stooges of the vehicle world, the Carfellas, required
my talents.

I bombed Berlin in a B-17, helped the RAF save
England, landed on the beach of Tarawa and torpedoed Japanese warships in the Pacific. I fought the
Chinese in Korea and landed with our troops in
Panama. I even jumped a cab in Paris during World
War I to get to the front to repel the Germans. While I
never got a chance to battle the Red Baron, I did manage to fly with Lindberg (don't tell anyone) when he
flew solo non-stop to Paris.
I could go on and on and further describe my fantastic
two week adventure. Believe it or not, I never even
planned to visit all of these strange lands and people.
Nor did I ever want to know of their weird habits and
ways. I enjoyed the travel but had never even imagined such an adventure.

convention and then another. First the Republicans and
then the Democrats had their chance to whoop it up,
screaming, singing, dancing, and dropping balloons and

after speaker attack and berate one another's adversary.

retirement plans have been delayed by many, one out
of every seven Americans is on food stamps and one
in eleven is on unemployment compensation. Some of
these people have been on these rolls for up to two
and half years. Plus, just about one of every two
Americans now is no longer paying any income tax.

And it doesn’t stop there. This bad economic situation
is not being helped by society's current social problems. The number of children born out of wedlock
(single parents) in the Afro-American community now
has reached almost seventy-two percent, the number
in the Latino community is about fifty percent. The
numbers in white American communites, now at
twenty-eight percent, are also climbing. Our jails are
full, our borders are porous, the military is stretched
thin and in many areas our educational systems flat
out stink. Many people are learning how to live off of
Uncle Sam and brag about it.

the parties can’t agree to even disagree.

their egos but few suggestions for solving problems.

According to the Republicans the Democrats don't
want God in America or Jews in Jerusalem. The
Democrats claim that the Republicans want to make
slaves of the middle class and allow the poor to die
on the streets outside the hospitals. I could go on but
I must leave some room for ads. To vote against
President O. makes you a racist and a vote against
Mr. R. makes you a religious bigot. Voter registration
is a huge issue ... and we are all battling over gay
marriage, Lord knows why. According to the numbers, gays appear to be the only ones who want to
get married.
Now the left wing press is screaming that there were
not enough blacks at the Republican Convention.
Republicans and their advocates retort that having a
twenty-eight percent ratio of blacks at the Democratic
Convention was reverse bias. Some are upset that Bill
Clinton, the only President to be impeached, was the
keynote speaker. Others looked at Clint Eastwood and
his empty chair and went bananas.

I could go on. But I think you probably see where I
am going. With all the problems I mentioned... and so
many more I don't have room to mention... I couldn't
stomach all that went on. We were getting hit from
both sides with nothing more than rhetoric, nonsense,
untruths, half truths, distortions and class warfare.
Enough! My boots are but so high.
I had a choice. I either listened, placed my head in the
toilet every so often and then went back to scream at
the TV or ... I visited other, non-convention locations.
Forget Tampa and Charlotte, I took Rio, Jakarta and
Toronto. I visited with the Eskimos, zebras and parrots. I loved swimming with killer sharks in the ocean.
At least I could see their fins!
I am thankful that the final bell will ring in early
November and we can all go back to normal. Until
then I will watch the Discovery Channel along with
the Military Channel and the Science Channel. I will

even watch Bridezilla if I must. But pay attention to the

If I have one suggestion it is this. Perhaps both parties
should give all of their wasted monies on conventions
and annoying, often filthy and disgusting distorted, commercials to feed the poor. It would be a more valuable
use of their money, and maybe even reduce some debt.

just finished reading a recent issue of
Bon Appetit magazine. In his Editor's
Letter, Adam Rapoport urged readers to
give lunch a shot this summer. Not a quick,
at your desk kind of lunch, but the kind of
lunch that encourages you to linger and
savor the moment. I would suggest this is
good advice year 'round. Perhaps not everyday-advice, but certainly advice that we can
follow every now and then. And that's what
I did in August... I took a long lunch in the
middle of a busy work week. It was the perfect calm for my ragged nerves!!

Easton Road in Warrington, KC Prime. It's a sister location to the popular KC Prime in Lawrenceville, New

But it's a whole lot more. On this visit, my partner
enjoyed a special salad with shrimp the size of baseballs. Ok, perhaps they were the size of large golf balls,
but we both agreed we had never seen shrimp like these
before. Grilled to perfection, tender and meaty, in a
lightly dressed salad, this plate more than satisfied the
he-man appetite of my lunch partner.

Our pleasant server urged me to consider the special
burger on the afternoon menu. "It's the best burger
around. I've never had a burger that's this good," she
said. "Ok," I said. After all, it is her job to recommend
the best offerings, no?! Well, she was right! My burger
was delivered just the way I like it. Thick and juicy, with
carmelized onions and Gouda, it was delicious. Encased
in a roll that was not "too much roll," I was eating
MEAT and it sure tasted like it. I was not disappointed.
Need I say it was large? It was... so much so, that my
guest finally acquiesced to eating the last quarter. Truth
is, it was so yummy that we would leave not a crumb of
the sandwich on my plate.

Prior to our visit, I Googled KC Prime to get some input
vis a vis what to expect and what to look for. A lot of
comments referred to their homemade fries, or at least
what the restaurant calls "fries." I had to try these.
Another home run! Thick and tasty, not greasy, they
lived up to my every expectation.
As we lingered over our meals we thought we were finished... until we heard the dessert menu. Do not leave
without dessert! We shared a warm brownie topped
with Dulce de Leche and whipped cream. The cool confection on top of the brownie really had our mouths
saying, "more please, more." Heavenly. My guest, who
usually is not a big fan of these kinds of "chocolate,
fudgy" desserts, proved otherwise this time. We had to
toss for the last bite! I won!
KC Prime offered us a delightful afternoon break. Dinner
time is busier but the service is equally attentive. We
found the waitstaff pleasant and unobtrusive... and very
helpful with their recommendations. And as we looked
at other meals being delivered to surrounding tables we
could tell the room was filled with satisfied diners.
Whether you're looking for soup or salad, a sandwich,
wrap or a 12 oz. filet mignon, I think you might find it at
KC Prime. It's got all the right stuff you'd expect at a traditional steakhouse and then some that might not be as
traditional. Their Sunday Brunch is a real treat. Offering
soup-to-nuts... rather eggs-to-steak, their buffet table
table is beautifully presented with brunch favorites. And
did I tell you that we found the prices comparatively
modest for a steakhouse?
Check out KC Prime. Go for lunch when you can relish
the time away from the stress and strain of office and
work. Of course they're great for dinner, but for something different and very special, lunch is a wonderfully
delicious opportunity. And remember to try their hamburgers. I have to agree, they're the best around!

WHAT ’S COOKIN’
It may be September and the end of summer, but there's still plenty of fresh
produce out there. We can still enjoy delicious berries in their prime. Try the
recipes we suggest and you can be "berried out" for the season. Instead of
mandarin oranges, try enjoying the Crispy Chicken dish with fresh raspberries. And the Cinnamon Blueberry Sauce can be prepared and frozen, and
enjoyed a bit later when you're missing those summer berries. So have fun
and eat up... winter's soups and stews are right around the corner.
Cinnamon Blueberry Sauce
2 C. blueberries, fresh or frozen
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1
⁄ 2 C. sugar, Splenda ok to use
1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1
⁄ 4 C. water
Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and cook
over medium heat until thick.
Serve warm or cold over ound cake, ice cream or anything else you prefer.
Blueberry-Brie Quesadillas
5 7-inch flour tortillas
1 Tbsp. butter, melted
4 oz. Brie Cheese, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1 C. fresh blueberries
1 C. fresh raspberries
1
⁄ 4 C. honey
1 C. quartered fresh strawberries
Preheat oven to 400OF.
Brush one side of each tortilla with melted butter. Place
tortillas, buttered side down, on a large baking sheet.
Place Brie slices on one half of each tortilla. Sprinkle
blueberries over Brie. Fold tortillas in half. Bake for 8 to
10 minutes or until lightly brown and cheese is melted.
For sauce, combine raspberries and honey, and blend in a
processor or blender until smooth. Serve quesadillas with
raspberry sauce and strawberries.
Crispy Chicken with Citrus Glaze
Glaze
1 C. orange juice

⁄ 2 C. grapefruit juice

⁄ 4 C. lemon juice

⁄ 4 C. lime juice

⁄ 4 C. chicken broth
3 Tbsp. minced garlic
3 Tbsp. light corn syrup
2 Tbsp. sugar

⁄ 4 C. sesame seeds
For Glaze: Bring all ingredients to boil. Boil until slightly
syrupy and reduced to 1 C. Season with salt and pepper.
For Chicken: Whisk first 4 ingredients in medium bowl
until blended. Add chicken and toss. Spread sesame seeds
in flat pan and dip chicken in seeds, covering both sides.
Place chicken on baking pan.
Heat oil in nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add
half of chicken and saute until golden outside, opaque in
center. Turn chicken over to brown on both sides. Do the
same with balance of chicken.
Mound serving plate with shredded chicken. Place
cooked chicken on lettuce and drizzle glaze on top of
chicken. Sprinkle dish with mandarin oranges. Yum!
Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies
2 C. flour
11⁄ 2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1
⁄ 4 tsp. ground cloves
11⁄ 4 C. dark brown sugar
1 C. unsalted butter (or margarine), room temperature
1
⁄ 3 C. dark corn syrup
1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla
2 C. old-fashioned oats
1 C. chopped pitted dates
1 C. raisins
3
⁄ 4 C. chopped pecans or walnuts
Preheat oven to 350OF.
Prepare baking sheets. Combine flour, cinnamon, baking
soda and cloves in a medium bowl.
Using a mixer, beat sugar and butter in a large bowl. Beat
in corn syrup, egg and vanilla. Mix in flour mixture. Add
oats, dates, raisins and nuts. Stir to blend.
Drop dough by big tablespoonfuls on to prepared baking
sheets. Space about 2 inches apart. Bake until cookies are
golden brown, about 15 minutes. Can be stored in an airtight container. Should make about 5 dozen cookies.
