PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
By Kent Williams
Summer is finally coming to an end and the kids are
back in school. The 100th anniversary committee is
working hard on the September 26th “ Great Gatsby”
party and we hope everyone can make it. This will be
the big celebration for the year. Reid is gearing up for
the Fall Member/Member and Kim still has league
play available. Contact them for ways to participate.
Peter is busy in the kitchen training staff on the new
menu. Chef’s table spots are still open, sign up today,
I highly recommend it.
Thanks to everyone who who supported the pool this
year. It has been a great summer and you just have a
few days left to enjoy it. Craig and his staff just finished aerifying the greens, and we look forward to
the greens getting their speed back by the fall . They
have also done an excellent job managing our water
supply this summer . Our finance committee continues to work very hard on staying in budget. Our
budget gets better the more we use our club. Bring
a friend and spend some time at your club. I hope to
see you there!

you to be the ambassadors for your club; if you know o someone whom you feel would benefit from
a CBM here at WCC please let me know and I will follow up with them. The overwhelming majority of
new members at a private club is because of our member referrals.
I would like to thank the staff and entire membership on a very busy summer all throughout the club.
We saw a marked increase in participation, which is what the club business is all about. You will see
new opportunities to enjoy your club this fall as we continue to stay creative and innovative in all that

Tip of the Month
Sometimes we find ourselves in trouble after missing the fairway on our tee
shot. To recover, we may need to hit
a low shot under the tree branches to
get the ball up close to the green. In
order to do that we need to hit what is
called a punch shot. The easiest way
to hit a punch shot is to grab a 6 or
7 iron and put the ball in the back of
your stance with the hands pressed
forward. This should allow for a lower
ball flight to help keep the shot underneath the tree branches and it should

Even the Best Laid Plans...
As summer draws to a close I’ve been thinking about how it went for my crew and I in
comparison to the intended outcome with the plans that I put in place starting last fall as I
was budgeting.. It definitely ranks up there at the top as one of the hottest. I took a count
the other day and we have had over 55 days of 90 degree plus temperatures and I’d venture
to say that nearly half of those were 95 degrees plus. Obviously this put everyone and everything under stress. There was the general stress of working in the heat, the stress of trying to
get things completed in a timely manner and the stress on the grass that we maintain.
It takes a great deal of thought and planning to try to stay one step ahead of Mother
Nature when dealing with these situations. One missed fungicide application or choosing the
wrong one at the wrong time can lead to serious repercussions on the bentgrass. Looking at
the forecast and trying to anticipate the conditions moving forward can sometimes be a little
tricky especially since the weather men can seem to get it right anymore. The greens hung
in really well all things considered. They did get hit with one case of pythium root rot but that
was due to a case where the fungicide did not perform as it should have for some reason. I
got it resolved fairly quickly and the greens rebounded well over all. We did lose some grass
on some of the edges and mounds in the typical spots. I am looking into ways to rectify these
troubled areas in the future. We have started plugging some of the areas already and will continue this until it is complete.
When we finally got a decent rain toward the end of July the fairways started taking
off. They had some injury but nothing too serious. It will take some time to get them covered
back over but I plan on pushing that along with my fall fertilizer application that will be put out
by the first part of September. This application has two purposes. The first is to get one last
push of growth from the .25 lbs./1000ft2 of nitrogen on the fairways and aid in filling in some
of the damaged spots and the second is to give the plant some cold tolerance through the
1.5 lbs. /1000ft2 of potassium.
So, when it is all said and done I feel pretty good about how this summer went even
though it didn’t go as well as I had hoped. I hope to see you all on the course soon!
Regards
Craig Clemmer
Golf Course Superintendent

Wilson Country Club’s 2015 Football Pool
Rules & Regulations:
1. $25.00 entry fee per person.
2. A winner each week - the person who has the highest score by correctly choosing the winners of each game
will win a $25.00 Wilson Country Club Gift Certificate. A point will be given for every correct pick. Your score is
simply the number of games you correctly picked.
To enter, fill in the entry form by making your pick for each game. The goal is to pick the winning team. You will also be asked to guess the total points scored in the Monday Night Football game (or whatever the last scheduled game of that week is). This will be used as a tiebreaker. The winner for each week will be the player with the highest score. In the event of a tie, the player who guessed closest to the actual point total of the tiebreaker game will win.
For the tiebreaker, it does not matter if your point total is over or under the actual score total. It is only the difference that counts.
3. The weekly sheets are to be filled out at the Club and subsequently left there with the Bartender at Grover’s
Grill by Saturday night each week before the scheduled games on Sunday. Thursday night’s game will NOT be
included in the pool to provide adequate time for members to come in and fill out their weekly sheet.
4. The winner each week will be determined and posted in Grover’s Grill. The winner can than pick up their Gift
Certificate from the Bartender in Grover’s no later than Tuesday at 2:00.
5. At the end of the 17 weeks, each player’s 3 lowest scores will be eliminated to get a final score to determine a
first and second place overall winner.
6. The first place winner will get 2/3 of 150% of the total entry fee proceeds collected (the Club will be contributing 50% to the pool amount collected) and the second place winner will get the other 1/3 of the proceeds.

Keep up the Pace!!!
It is a group’s responsibility to keep up with
the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and it
is delaying the group behind, it should invite
the group behind to play through, irrespective
of the number of players in that group.
Repairing Ball Marks!
In an effort to encourage the membership to
continue fixing ball marks, we have provided
you with some factual information that may
interest you. Unrepaired ball marks take at
least two to three weeks to properly heal,
leaving behind unsightly, uneven putting
surfaces. On the other hand, a repaired ball
mark takes only half the time to heal.
Beginner or pro, it is your responsibility as a
golfer to fix your own ball marks. If you are
truly a steward of the game, you’ll fix any
others you see while your partners are
putting as well.
