Last year, Rob Robison, Warren County Career Center Satellite
Instructor & Kings Business Teacher, wrote a $9,000 grant
through Pathways to Financial Success for Kings High School.
This grant was initiated to get an iPad cart for the high school.
With the initial $9,000, KHS was able to get 10 iPads and an iPad
cart. This year, Robison wrote another grant and got awarded an
additional $8,000 to add to the iPad cart. With this additional
money, 17 more iPads will be purchased for the iPad cart. The
iPads have been used in a number of classes throughout the high
school. Robison said, “There are apps that we utilize for financial literacy and money
management.” Mr. Robison has been a teacher at the high school for 5 years and has
written a number of grants for Kings. He said, “It has been a great tool that students can
utilize on the move.”
Kings Firecrackers Visited by Japanese Television Station
A TV crew from a popular Japanese travel show came to Columbia Intermediate last week to film
the Firecrackers in front of hundreds of fans. The crew and their comedic host, Ayako Imato, said
they saw a YouTube video that went viral four years ago and thought it would be a great chance
to collaborate with them. The TV show, "Sekai No Hatte Madde Itte Q!" (“Riddles at the Far Ends
of the World”) is broadcast to more than 15 million Japanese viewers. To learn more about the
Firecrackers’ brush with fame and watch a video of their
performance featuring the Japanese host, click here.
Annual KABC Golf Outing
The Kings Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing will be held on Sunday,
August 11th at Walden Ponds Golf Course in Fairfield. Your day includes a round of golf, tee prize package, opportunity to win contests
and prizes, followed by dinner catered by our own Buck’s Tavern. All
proceeds from the event benefit the Kings Athletic Booster Club and
our Athletic Facilities. Entries are limited to the first 128 golfers by
August 1st. For more information and the registration form click here.
2013 Scholastic Award Winner
Kings Senior Sam Huber traveled with his family to New York City to attend the National Ceremony for
the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards that were held
at Carnegie Hall. Sam was awarded one of the three
Creativity and Citizenship Awards. He was awarded a
$1000 prize. The ceremony was broadcast live in a
webcast on May 31st. Sarah Jessica Parker and Usher
were the featured speakers at the ceremony this
year. Sam’s artwork has been on display in the National Exhibition in New York and will remain there
until June 15th. Kings students Jarod Allen and Lauren Lalli also earned recognition but did not attend
the ceremony.
Kings Staff at Google Training
The staff and administration of the Kings Local School District have been undergoing training on Google
Apps for Education. The Google program allows schools to give Google’s communication and collaboration
applications to their entire education community for free, which will yield significant savings in technology
budgets. By being connected to a common e-mail, chat, and calendar system, as well as presentation and
video tools, it will enable students and staff
to work together and learn more effectively
and efficiently. By the time school starts in
the fall, the district will have 805 Google
Chromebooks on 27 carts across the district. Kings will be joining over 8 million
other students and teachers that are already using Google Apps at schools around
the world.

From the Office of the Superintendent….
A Message from Dr. Browning
School’s out for the summer for our students! But, the
staff is busy at work already preparing for next school year.
The custodial and maintenance crews are already in many
buildings cleaning out classrooms and fixing up the buildings. Our teachers are attending classes and workshops to
improve their instructional skills.
In early April, the district held a Kindergarten registration
night. Do not worry if you were not able to attend. You
may still register your soon-to-be kindergartener or a new
student by contacting our Central Registrar, Carrie Cunningham at 459-2932. You can also find more information
on our website at http://www.kingslocal.net/Registration/
pages/default.aspx.
In late May, we graduated over 300 students at our 178th
annual graduation ceremony. This year’s class was an exceptional group of talented seniors. The class of 2013 has
received more than $4 million in scholarships.
Thanks to all of you for another awesome school year. I
appreciate the part each of you play in the success of our
school district. There truly is “No Place Like Kings.”
I look forward to another great school year in the fall.
School resumes Tuesday, August 20th!
