HOG S NOUT Volume 104, Issue 5 Manchester NH Chapter #1294 Director, Terryann Bartlett September/October 2004 (Director, continued) “Jenna’s Ride” for Special Olympics. On July 31st we hosted the 3rd annual “Jenna’s Ride” for Special Olympics. It was a huge success despite the 90-degree hot and humid weather. We had a total of 217 registrants with 160 bikes and raised a little over $4,000. I want to thank all of our chapter members that volunteered for this event – you worked very hard all day & your efforts did not go unnoticed. You know this event is very near and dear to me and the support from everyone was unbelievable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!! Thanks also go out to Manchester HD, Stephen Talarico, Steve Irons, Grim and all the people from the dealership who supported this event. We will be holding a post event meeting to go over the things that went well and those that didn’t so that we can begin planning for next year. The day has not as yet been set but an email will be sent with the details. Lake George. On July 16th, 19 of us (12 bikes & 2 vehicles) set out for our Chapter weekend trip to Lake George. Joan & Shawn Dimick spent a great deal of their time & effort planning this event, and due to their efforts, it was a great success. Everyone had a lot of fun (although the weather wasn’t too cooperative at times) and are looking forward to next year’s trip. Thanks Joanie & Shawn – you did a great job!!!! New Road Captains. Congratulations to Bruce Witte, Wayne Lessard, Bill Barry, Shawn Dimick, Moe Godin, Paul Marquis, Joan Girard, Deb Payne, Bruce Gelinas and Ed Brackett who have completed the road training requirements this year. Thanks for your help & commitment to making our Chapter rides better and safer- Great job!! Open House. The fall open house has been scheduled for October 2. We will be voting on the charity for the open house during our September meeting. There will be sign-up sheets for those of you who would like to volunteer that day. Land & Lake Poker Run. For the third year in a row, Manchester HOG received the “most represented group” in the poker run. We had a total of 58 bikes, with a special thanks to Concord who brought in 20 bikes themselves. A little over $58,000 was raised. (Director, continued) Posse Ride. On Saturday, September 25 there will be a multi-chapter (Manchester, Nashua & Concord) posse ride ending at Billy’s Chowder House in Wells, Maine. Mark Banks (Concord Director) has arranged for 40 people per chapter to attend this event. We will have a private function hall with soda and coffee provided as well as a complete lobster feast. The cost is $25 per person with no substitutions available. Please see me at the August meeting if you are interested – the money needs to be collected and sent to Mark by September 1st the latest. This should be a lot of fun and a great way to meet members from the other chapters. Pumpkin Run. Easter Seals is hosting their second annual Pumpkin Run on October 3 starting at MHD and ending at the Naswa Resort in Laconia. They have asked us to plan and lead this parade style ride. An email will be sent for those who wish to participate in this event. Cost and other details will be listed on the website and in the email. Assistant Director, Pam Gould The purpose - to ride and have fun. You don’t always have to do one to have the other, but what a great combination! I have been on some GREAT Chapter rides this year with people that have the same purpose as me, to ride and have fun. It has been nonstop laughter and smiles and memories to last a lifetime. I can’t, of course, tell you all what happens on these rides, because what happens on the road, stays on the road! (At least its supposed to.) I’m sure its illegal to have as much fun as we do - but push the limits, we do! Our next "big" ride will be to the VT/NH rally Aug. 19th. I hope the Manchester Chapter will have a good showing of members and maybe even win in one or two of the bike games. There will be a "Stampede Ride" up to the rally site. The Manchester Chapter will meet at the dealership and leave promptly at 9:00, so please be there by 8:30 and with a full tank of gas. There will be a pre-ride meeting at 8:40 and Leon Bagley will be leading the ride up to the State Liquor Store on 93N to meet up with the Stampede Ride. From there, the ride will leave at 10:30 and head up 89N to Twin States HD in Lebanon NH for lunch and then on to Burlington VT. As always, I’m sure it will be another good time for us. Hope to see you there! My official job as Photographer/Historian is to help uphold the chapter charter, to take and organize photos for a chapter history album, and to submit photos to Hog Tales when requested. Unofficially, I see it as a way to keep hold of the memories we create together. For many of us, the riding is very, very important, but so is the camaraderie we find with people of like minds. It takes a free spirit to ride a Harley, and we free spirits tend to gravitate toward others who feel as free. I’m proud to say I’m a member of Manchester HOG. I’ve found friends and family here. I love looking at the photos because they help remind me of that. I also see photographs as a way to attract new members. There have been lots of people who have said they’ve joined because they see through our photographs how much fun we seem to be having (and we are!). I’m not the only one who thinks Manchester HOG is the most fun chapter east of the Mississippi! Many of you access the photos through the website (and thanks to Rocco for posting them for me), but there’s also the photographic history album. I usually bring this to the meeting, but you can also see it when you visit the dealership. It’s usually over by the HOG “photo wall” unless I have it at home when I’m working on new additions to the book. I mentioned at the last meeting that I’ve created a members’ mug shot section of the book. I created this because in looking back at books from years past, it’s hard to know who’s who because there are no captions for the photos. I understand this. It takes a long time to photo edit, e-mail the photos to the Webmaster, to print the photos, post some on the wall and add others to the book. Labeling photos adds even more time. The mug shot section will help identify members involved in the various activities sponsored by the chapter. So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to take your photo for the book. If you attend an event or one of our meetings, don’t be surprised if I’m snapping some photographs of you having fun with the rest of us. Secretary, Susan Lamontagne Just a reminder that nominations for the 2005 Officers will be held at the October 20th General Meeting. All nominees will be put on the ballot for voting by the Membership at the November 17th General Meeting. All Officer positions will be up for nominations with the exception of the Membership Officer. (603) 622-2461 HOG SNOUT 2 Member Notes, Bruce Witte Treasurer, Tom Lustenberger 2005 Sturgis Rally Ride Twelve months until it’s kick stands up and we head west to Sturgis, South Dakota for the 2005 Sturgis Rally. At present there are 34 people, 28 bikes, and 2 vehicles with trailers, signed up to make the trip next August. New members are invited to sign up for the trip. Contact Bruce Witte via e-mail at brucewitte@qualityinnovations.com for additional information. A brief questionnaire was e-mailed to those members who have expressed an interest to make the trip. The questionnaire will help to plan accommodations and other logistics associated with ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone. I’ve been researching a Northern route for the trip west that would take us to Niagara Falls, New York where we would cross the Peace Bridge into Canada and motor through the Southern province of Ontario, Canada along Lake Ontario and Lake Huron to Sarnia, Ontario. We would then cross the Blue Water Bridge into Michigan and then continue toward Lake Michigan through a portion of Indiana into Illinois and north towards the direction of the Wisconsin Dells near Baraboo, Wisconsin. Then, along the plains through Minnesota, Iowa, and arriving in South Dakota. More information will follow and there will be an informal get together planned for all those who are planning to make the trip. Ride safe and enjoy the rest of the riding season! Merchandise Officer, Joan Girard New Merchandise on order!! We have ordered a Men's long sleeve Henley, that is plain on the back, with a small logo on the chest, in blue. I expect them in before the next meeting, so come prepared to shop. The cost will be $24.00. The following is the merchandise currently available: Women’s Black LS Tee Women’s Black Tank Top Men's Blue LS Henley Men’s Black SS Tee Baseball Caps Large Chapter Patch Large H.O.G.® Patch Small Chapter Patch Small H.O.G.® Patch Chapter Pins Chapter Bike Flags M M,L,XL S,M,L,XL M,L,XL,2XL NA NA NA NA NA NA NA As I indicated at our July Chapter meeting, our checking account is healthy at this time and continues to grow with merchandise sales, dues and more dues from Manchester Harley, and shrinks depending upon our expenses. Manchester Harley sends us $20.00 for each new bike they sell which is a great benefit for our Chapter. When I attended P.O.T. (Primary Officers Training) in Connecticut back in April, I mentioned this during a couple classes I took. Much to my surprise I found out that there are not many Dealers who do this, so we should be thankful for MHD’s support. We recently purchased a storage shed for our supplies, which will make it much better when we have an event, everything will be in one place! No more searching through the bowels of the shop, and Sue won’t have to bring her trailer to all the events anymore…she can finally ride to them. Ladies of Harley Update, Rose Ohar, Patty Lamirande We hope everyone has been enjoying the summer riding (in between the rain drops of course). Patty has been busy increasing the odometer reading on her new bike and christened her bike in a ride in the rain to the Colebrook bike blessing. I am still trying to wear out my front tire, so I can get a new one to match the new tire in the back. It is too hard to clean white walls! We are all set for the next LOH Progressive Dinner ride scheduled for Sunday, September 12, 2004. A special thank-you to everyone who volunteered to help. We had lots of fun on the last dinner ride in June and are looking forward to seeing you all on the ride in September. Please come and join us for a great ride through the countryside, good company and good food! The ride up was nice (a little rain here and there, but no big thing). We had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant and went downtown the first night. On Saturday, we ventured to Lake Placid, which was kinda neat, they actually had people skiing down the mountain on the grass from the original starting gates as the Olympics. Went in town and did the normal shopping stuff. Shawn and I are finishing up on the Portsmouth Harbor Cruise and once that happens, we will email you and should you wish to participate, and have fun, then JOIN US. MARK YOUR CALENDARS for this year’s Chapter Halloween Party. It has been set for Saturday, November 6, 2004 starting at 7:00 pm and will be held in Londonderry at the Londonderry Senior Center on Old Mammoth Road. More details will follow. We have not worked on anything new yet since we want to get by the Jenna’s Ride event, and the VT/NH rally and then we will get back to planning some other events. Any suggestions or ideas let either Shawn or myself know and we will check it out for you. If anything does come our way that we think may be of interest, we will certainly either email the group or bring it up at our next meeting. Sr. Road Captain, Tony Amorelli Here we are in August & it's finally starting to feel like summer. Let's hope the delay with the arrival of the summer heat means a delay in its departure! August is full of rides and I'm sure everyone can find at least one ride that they can really sink their teeth into! The NH/VT State rally is this month & Leon will be leading our portion of the Stampede Ride. That would be something to see & be part of! On July 31st we had the 3rd Annual Jenna's ride and thanks to some pushing, shoving and more than a little whining, an ‘03 Road King Classic was loaned to me so I could lead the Chapter on the Poker Run. It was the first real ride I had been on since May 29th and the first ride that I Captained since April. It felt great getting back out on the road, taking the long way home! There's nothing like being in the wind! Thank you to everyone who made it memorable and I sincerely hope I can return the favor one day. By the time you read this article, the Road Captains and I will have planned rides for the remainder of the season. We should have some great rides for you and I know you'll enjoy them! We livened up a couple of places and a good time was had by all. We had 12 bikes, 2 trucks and 19 people. Not too bad for our first overnight trip. (Activities, continued) HOG SNOUT 4 Ride Safe...THAT IS AN ORDER! Dealer Liaison, Grim August Rides: The 05’s are in. Some very nice paint, a couple of new models, Buell has a new model with see-through bodywork. In Softails, there is a Screaming Eagle Fat Boy with a 103-inch motor and paint with clear metal/color combination; sounds weird but kinda cool. Also, the new nostalgia Softail Deluxe with a 50’s feel and look. The rider position is low and close to the bars (okay Sue, it wasn’t for you, but your new Heritage will work great).
