New Uniform from September 2014
Full school uniform must be worn at all times. This includes school PE kit. The student’s
uniform must be kept neat and tidy. It will help your child and us if all articles are clearly labelled
with the owner’s name and year group. School coats should be plain black with no motifs or labels.
Black school shoes should be worn at all times – please note that boots, trainers, plimsolls or
canvas shoes are not permitted. Please consult the uniform list for full details of The John Roan
uniform.
GIRLS
Plain black pleated, straight or A-line knee length
skirt or plain black tailored trousers
No short, frilled, bubble or other fashion
skirts
No jeans, cords, combat trousers, leggings,
tracksuit bottoms or other fashion trousers.
No tracksuit bottoms to be worn underneath.

Failure to wear any item of school Uniform is unacceptable. On the rare occasions when a student
does not have an item of school uniform, parents should write a note of explanation with a date when
we can expect full Uniform to be worn.
ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE MARKED WITH OWNER’S NAME
A sturdy school bag, large enough for school books, folders, PE kit etc.
NO JEWELLERY WHATSOEVER should be worn for Games/PE, but students may wear one small
signet ring and one pair of stud earrings for pierced ears on other occasions. On the grounds of
health, safety and security jewellery is restricted to these items only. NO MAKE-UP or nail varnish
should be worn.
Shoes
Trainers and boots are not allowed to be worn with The John Roan School Uniform Code. Shoes should
be black, flat and appropriate for school. Below are examples of shoes which are appropriate:
Timberland boots and black trainers (including canvas ones) are not allowed! Please note that Kickers
boots are only allowed if they have a black sole and black laces. Below are examples of a range of
