General Education for Engineering
Majors for Transfer
 English 110 is an admission requirement for the UC/CSU
 English/Philosophy 111 is required for admission to the
UC system and most CSU campuses
(see list of exceptions on Engineering Grid)
 Communication 121,131,141,161, or 235 is required for
CSU admission (CSU GE pattern A1)
 Communication 121 or 131 required for UC Davis
 One additional course from the Arts/Humanities/Social
Behavioral Sciences is required for UC admission
 Engineering, math, computer science and other science
majors should focus on completing the preparation for
the major vs. IGETC and/or CSU GE Pattern.
(Unless IGETC/CSU GE is part of TAG or makes you more selective).
Preparation for the major
Courses that prepare students for a
specific major at a specific school
Transfer Articulation Agreements are on
the web for all UC and CSU campuses and
majors! http://www.assist.org/

TAGs – www.sbcc.edu/TAG (all UCs but UCLA , UC Berkeley
and UCSD).
Complete TAG in September, and apply to UC in November. Students
can only apply for one UC TAG agreement.
UCSB

College of Engineering

College of Creative Studies: Computer Science Emphasis B.S.

TAG (complete in September): Guaranteed admission to UCSB
3.2 overall for fall 2014; 3.4 in major – will probably change in
the near future

Pattern http://www.assist.org/web-

Too many Units: Fact or Fiction

How long will it take to finish the degree at UCSB if all preparation is complete?
It will take 2 years for mechanical assuming you take summer classes prior to
entrance in fall. For most other majors 3 years is the average. You can get a head
start by taking summer courses at UCSB.

Chemical engineers need Organic Chemistry
Engineering Trends
 There are approximately 1,478,000 engineering jobs in the United
States.
 Projected increase in environmental engineering jobs, chemical, civil,
electrical and nuclear engineering.
 Number of women in the field is increasing.
 Engineering as a discipline is focused on diversifying its pool of
applicants.
 Projected increase in engineering opportunities as current engineers
reach retirement age.
 Engineering majors go on to professional schools of law, business,
etc.
