OUR MISSION
TYPA's mission is to develop healthy, well-rounded, confident youth,
enthusiastic about learning through their participation in safe dynamic,
fun-filled recreational experiences.
Critical to providing these quality experiences and meeting the changing
needs of the international community is the professionalism of our
staff, the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our families.

Information
Membership
In order to participate in TYPA classes, one must
first be a member of TYPA. TYPA welcomes everyone from the international community and has
members from all around the world. Joining TYPA is
a simple process. Just come to the TYPA office with
the completed master registration form (please
see page 74) and bring the new member’s foreign
passport and one photograph. Non–TAS parents
are required to bring in one photo each for their
gate pass. Due to Taiwan government regulations
governing the charter of TYPA, all members must
be foreign nationals holding a foreign passport.
Each participant pays a registration fee of $1,200
per semester. The Fall semester 2015 registration
fee is for the period from June 8 to December 18.
The Spring semester 2016 registration fee is for
the period from January 5 to May 28.
Registration
TYPA usually has the Summer and Fall program registration in late April/early May, and the Spring program registration in late November/early December.
For specific dates, please consult pages 6 and 70.
Re-Registration:
During the April/May Summer and Fall registration,
continuing students in progressive skill programs
from Spring semester will receive priority to re–register for those classes and spaces are guaranteed.
During the November/December Spring registration, continuing students in all programs from Fall
semester will receive priority to re–register for
their classes and spaces are guaranteed.
Open Registration:
Open Registration is for current members who wish
to register for additional activities and new members who are enrolling for the first time in TYPA.
Open Registration Process:
To better serve our members and eliminate early
morning line-ups, we have implemented a “Get
your Registration number on-line” service. Using
this service, current and new members wanting to
sign up for new activities go on-line on the specified days to get an number/appointment time. That
time will inform the member when to come to the
office to sign up for activities that are still available at that time. Please see the column to the
right for these times.
“Get your Registration Number on-line” is an
important step in this process. You will need one
in order to register for your activities during registration week.

Rugby
Grades 6 – 8
TYPA’s middle school basketball program has been
designed to continue to improve individual basketball skills while exposing its players to a competitive
basketball environment. Our focus will be bridging
the gap between TYPA’s lower school basketball program and the more competitive teams that players
will look to join in the future. Our teams will practice
more advanced individual and team skills while competing against other schools and organizations from
the island. Priority given for grade 6 players.
Players will learn how to pass, run and tackle in high
intensity training sessions. Our rugby program is a
perfect platform for those players wishing to pursue this sport in high school and beyond. The experienced coaches will equip all players with the skills
and confidence to become complete rugby players.
The rugby team will also play fixtures against various local schools near the end of the season.
All players must purchase mouth guards to be

Martial Arts
GENERAL INFORMATION
TYPA offers martial arts classes in four distinct disciplines – Aikido, Karate, Kung Fu and Taekwondo.
Martial arts teaches respect, courtesy, and self–
discipline as well as improving health and fitness,
flexibility, strength and stamina.
Discipline, attitude and respect for martial arts will
be emphasized. Examples of the above guidelines
include promptness to class, proper wearing of
uniforms and respect for the martial arts master
and fellow students.
Karate, Kung Fu and Taekwondo students are separated into beginning, intermediate, and advanced
levels depending on the belt worn or age. Each
semester, once the requirements for a certain level
are mastered, students attend testing for belt
advancement and if successful, advance to the
next level at the beginning of the following semester or school year.
Aikido
Aikido in its present form was developed in Japan
in the early 20th century. Aikido is seen not only
as a system of self-defense, but also as a means
of self-cultivation and improvement. It is unique
among martial arts in that the majority of techniques are based on aggressors making the first
move and using their energy and momentum to
neutralize them.
Karate (Shotokan style)
Karate has been practiced for centuries for self–
defense and fitness. It is one of the oldest martial
arts originating from China and further developed in
Japan. Karate builds character and improves self–
confidence through disciplined exercises. Ideal for
all ages, karate can be learned from 6 years and up.
Kung Fu (Xingyi style)
Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art form involving many
techniques. This class is divided into three areas
including: Defense, which involves self-protection,
escape from attacks, and joint-locks; Offense,
which includes punching and kicking routines; and
aerobatic movements which resemble gymnastics
and are more practical for real life situations.
Taekwondo (Kukkiwon style)
Testing criteria will not only include skills, but discipline, attitude and respect displayed throughout the semester. Students will not advance to the
next belt level unless all these criteria are met to
the satisfaction of the instructor. Testing may be
conducted together in small groups or individually at the discretion of the master. There is a non–
refundable testing fee which includes the charge
for the belt purchase if advancing.
TYPA does not sell or otherwise provide uniforms.
Students are required to purchase their own uniforms from a local retailer or with assistance from
the instructor. Students must be in a properly fitting uniform by the third lesson or they are subject to sitting out that class. Each discipline has
its own unique uniform and different color scheme
for its belt system.
All TYPA martial arts classes are no or low contact
and require a minimum enrollment to proceed. Older
beginning students or students with experience in a
different martial arts discipline may attend higher–
level classes at the discretion of the instructor.
TYPA will attempt to participate in local martial arts
competitions throughout the year. This is not guaranteed or part of the activity fee. Any extra meets
or travel will be at the expense of the participants.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art in which kicks
make up 90% of the techniques used. Students will
learn basic techniques, forms, combination fighting
and sparring. Taekwondo is an official Olympic sport
and is enjoying increasing worldwide popularity.
Martial Arts

a parent/child duo to enjoy on a Saturday morning.
E It is recommended for a parent to sign up with
a Grade 1 or 2 student. Sign up for one or two
classes per week.

Music at TYPA is for all ages. We offer 30, 45 or 60
minutes of private music instruction in Cello, Flute,
Guitar, Piano, Violin and Voice. We also offer group
lessons for beginning Flute and Guitar students
and the “Chanterelles” children’s choir.

Lott, Jr. Auditorium.
Our music instructors are exceptionally talented
with a wealth of experience and most possess
Master of Music degrees specializing in music performance. Many continue to perform in recitals
and concerts throughout the year.
All music classes are scheduled in the following
manner: Towards the end of each semester re-registration for continuing students takes place and
music teachers arrange their schedules with them
first. During open registration, any spaces remaining available are offered on a first-come, firstserved basis and if a non-available teacher or time
is desired, names are placed on a waiting list. All
waiting lists and special requests are purged at the
end of each semester.
Music Agreement
Every parent or adult student is required to read
and understand the TYPA Music Agreement. The
Music Agreement is available at the TYPA office, on
our website or in the TYPA Music Notebook.

fluid movements, twists and twirls, the heart beats
faster and a lot of energy is used. By moving their
hips and arms, and connecting their bodies with the
rhythm of Latin/pop music, students get a vigorous
mind-body workout. Apart from the healthy aerobic exercise, students also learn step movements,
improve their flexibility and most importantly enjoy
the variety and beauty of Latin/pop music.

“A Loving Place for Learning”
GENERAL INFORMATION
About the Tiger Tots Program
At Tiger Tots, we provide a safe nurturing learning environment for children ages 18 months to 6.
All the programs have similar educational goals,
values, and philosophy. In each of the programs,
activities and materials are planned in a developmentally appropriate manner within a challenging and exciting learning environment. Play sets
the stage for learning and provides the medium
through which the children may imitate, explore,
test ideas, acquire information and draw conclusions. Our program emphasizes the fostering of
positive self–image, socialization and recognizes
the uniqueness of each child.
About Our Community of Learners
All of our teachers are qualified educators, many of
whom have been with Tiger Tots for several years.
They work as a team to develop and implement
meaningful and engaging programs for children,
based on emergent curriculum planning techniques. Our teachers and teaching assistants are
dedicated to participation in ongoing professional
development and are also committed to, and
encourage, active parent involvement and communication. Together, our love for children and the
quality of education we offer creates a wonderful
community of learners.
E For additional policy information, families of
currently enrolled students should check their
Tiger Tots Parent Handbook.
Registration
Prospective families should fill out a waiting list application form which can be downloaded off the TYPA
web site or picked up at the front desk at either campus. There is no fee for waiting list placement. Upon
completion of the form, new families may be contacted for a required visitation before registration.
A non–refundable registration fee of $15,000 per
semester is required for each child upon his/her
acceptance into the program.
Tuition for Fall semester must be paid in full by
June 30. Tuition for Spring semester must be paid
in full upon registration in November. No refunds
or credits will be given (toward TYPA or Tiger Tots
programs) after tuition due dates unless families
are leaving Taiwan. If tuition is not paid by the due
date, it will be assumed the child will not attend.
Registration/tuition fees may be paid by cash,
check or credit card. If parents choose to take a
vacation during scheduled school days, tuition will
not be refunded or credited for the child’s time
away from preschool.
All Tiger Tots class fees cover one full semester.
Classes are available once a minimum number of
participants have been reached.
Withdrawal Policy
A minimum of two weeks written notice is required
for withdrawal from all Tiger Tots programs. Please
inquire at the TYPA office for a withdrawal form
or download one from the TYPA web site. Families
who must leave Tiger Tots because of relocation
to another country may receive a tuition refund
for the amount of the semester not used. If the
family relocates, a refund will only be issued if the
withdrawal is before October 16, 2015 for the fall
semester or March 11, 2016 for the spring semester. The registration fee is non–refundable.
Semester Dates
Fall semester begins on August 24, 2015. The first
semester finishes December 18, 2015. Spring
semester is January 5, 2016 to May 27, 2016. Holidays and “no school” days closely follow the Taipei
American School calendar. (Holidays are listed in
the back of this catalog on page 70).
Lunch
A hot lunch is available for full day children. Tiger
Tots Place provides fresh fruit and orders lunches
from a local vendor who has proven to demonstrate
hygienic food preparation and provide healthy
lunch choices. We order lunches from Taipei American School food services for Pre-K and K children.
Lunch is pre-ordered on a monthly basis, however,
parents can choose to send in a home lunch instead
or a mixture of both choices for their child.
Locations
Please refer to map on page 6 for campus locations.
Drop Off & Pick Up
At both campuses, children may be dropped off
between 8:30am and 9:00am. If you are driving,
please be sure to allow our staff to safely transport
your child from the car into school. We respectfully
ask that children arrive to school on time and are
picked up promptly at the end of class time.
Parent-Teacher Orientation
All Parent-Teacher Orientations will take place the
week of August 17. Children will accompany parents
to visit later that week.

TIGGERS
55
Pre-Two–Year–Old Tigger’s Playgroup
For children who are 18 months before Sept. 1, 2015
Tiggers Pre-2’s Playgroup will meet either two, three or five days each week, depending
on the schedule you choose at registration. The classroom is located at the Tiger Tots
Campus (please see map on page 6).
This playgroup program will comprise of informal sessions during which children come together to
socialize and have fun in an air-conditioned, clean, relaxed and friendly environment. The experience will
help your child gain an understanding of what school is about, and foster a positive attitude towards
it, through stories, songs, drama, music and play.
By providing stimulating and age-appropriate equipment, activities and materials, the children will
become more independent, be encouraged to make appropriate choices, solve problems and make
discoveries, through moving and doing. Our little Tiggers will learn about themselves and how to relate
to others.
It can take some time for young toddlers to feel secure and comfortable in a group environment, to
seek out familiar adults for support and to develop increased social skills. To ease this transition, a
parent - or other familiar caregiver - may remain in the classroom until the teaching staff indicates
that a separation is appropriate and can be comfortably accomplished.
Parent-Teacher Orientation for the Tiggers class will take
place during the week of August 17. Children will accompany
parents to visitations as scheduled by the teacher.

The Two–Year–Old Program encourages the growth of independence and social awareness, sensory exploration, the
development of physical skills, and language development.
Children play in planned indoor and outdoor environments
designed to provide a variety of materials to explore.
For two–year–olds, it can take some time for the child to
be totally comfortable in the group environment, to seek
out teachers for support and to develop increased peer
social skills. To ease this transition at the beginning of
each semester, a parent or other consistent caregiver may
remain in the classroom with the child until the teaching
staff indicates that a separation from this primary adult is
appropriate and can be comfortably accomplished.

The Three–Year–Old Program is designed to encourage a balance of child initiated and teacher facilitated activities. This program offers children a variety
of choices provided within a carefully prepared indoor
and outdoor environment. This environment includes
art, dramatic play, blocks, manipulatives, language
arts, books, music, water and sand play, as well as
activities to build large and small motor skills. Our
goals include the encouragement of each child’s natural curiosity and interest in learning. We feel it is
important for children to actively participate in the
learning process, and therefore provide many opportunities for learning by doing, for both indirect and
direct acquisition of new knowledge and skills.

directed opportunities. The learning outcomes for
the Kindergarten Program are based on benchmarks for learning standards found in North American Kindergartens.
Children in the Kindergarten class will be introduced to a variety of themes or interest units;
each unit will encourage growth and development
in each of their learning domains. This program
offers a carefully prepared indoor and outdoor
environment. There will be a variety of choices provided within the curriculum for art, dramatic play,
blocks, manipulatives, language arts, books, music,
and computers. Our goals include the encouragement of each child’s natural curiosity and interest
in learning.
