Don’t automatically assume the product with the
highest NRR is the best choice for you. Overprotection can leave workers with the inability to hear
any sound whatsoever and may force them to
remove their hearing protection every time they want
to speak to a co-worker or hear an announcement
throughout the day. Removing your hearing
protection in noisy environments for as little as
5 minutes a day can dramatically affect your true
NRR. Remember, the best hearing protection is
hearing protection that gets worn!

What is NRR?
NRR, or Noise Reduction Rating, is a guideline
that indicates the amount of potential protection
a hearing protection device will give in a noisy
environment.
• Disposable Earplugs are ideal for business
with many workers who go through large
quantities of plugs

NRR is the decibel (dB) reduction provided by
hearing protection based on laboratory test data.
However, these tests can’t possibly account for all
the variables of a typical workplace. Even though
a higher NRR is intended to indicate greater noise
reduction, NRR can be affected by protector size,
fit and condition, as well as user motivation and
training.

A realistic estimate of protection can be obtained
by reducing the labeled NRR by 50%, for example:
Environmental noise level = 92dB
NRR = 26dB, which reduced by 50%
becomes 13dB

These plugs give you the best of both worlds – the power to hear
and protection from arc blasts. The yellow end of the Arc Plug is
uniquely designed to allow wearers to hear conversations, signals
and other critical sounds clearly and without impairment. In the
case of an arc blast, the impulse noise will cause the plug’s noise
filter to react instantly and the noise will be suppressed to a safer
level. This greatly reduces the chance of hearing damage and
concussive disorientation. The red end of the Arc Plug works the
same as any traditional earplug to provide steady protection from
constant high-level sound sources. Plugs are washable, reusable
and contain no batteries or moving parts. Each pair comes with a

The 3M™ Noise Indicator alerts users to potentially dangerous noise levels, helping identify areas where hearing protection may need to be worn. Users simply clip the unit to a
shirt or jacket – the LED light delivers a clear indication when
noise levels exceed a potentially hazardous threshold. A red
flashing LED indicates that noise levels are above 85dB and
that hearing protection may be required. A green flashing
LED indicates that noise levels are below 85dB and that
hearing protection may not be necessary. The Noise
Indicator’s small size (2"H X 1.4"W X 0.5"D) and lightweight
design make it ideal for workers in a variety of industries.
The rechargeable battery operates for up to 200 hours
between charges.
