Message from Nance...
“ The most basic and powerful way to
connect with another person is to listen. Just
listen; perhaps the most important thing we
ever give each other is our attention …
a loving silence has far more power

Recently we had the honor of having Dr. Brian Tiep speak to our group. He spoke and then he opened up the
most well-intentioned
forum for questions and provided answers. Afterwards I noticed several participants approach him with questions
words.”
How often do we ask someone “how they are doing” and not even listen to the response? How many times
do we find ourselves listening but not hearing what is being said? Social networking and talk programs are
all about talking and telling and much less about listening. How do we regain this powerful way of connecting?

had made a connection with them.

What makes a good listener? Here are a few techniques: be empathetic; be present (not pre-occupied); be patient, be non-judgmental;
be engaged and ask for clarification if needed; be aware of body language and remember that you don’t have to solve all problems, just
listen. To be a good listener takes practice! So whomever you meet today or tomorrow, be it a stranger or a dear friend, try to be a good
listener. You will be amazed at the results and the connections you will make.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Thank you all for touching my life and making it so rich.
Be well, remember to breathe and move...Nance
Our next Breath Savers meeting will be Thursday, February 21, 2013. Lunch will
be provided at noon for $7. You may bring your lunch if you prefer. The menu
will be: spring mixed salad with caramelized walnuts, bleu cheese crumbles and
craisins, meat lasagna, green beans amandine, garlic bread and George
Washington cherry pie for dessert. The program is FREE and starts at 1 p.m.
“FRAUD PREVENTION” is the topic and will be presented by R.S.V.P. (Retired

to help prevent it is very important. Please come join us and BRING A FRIEND

February 19 at (626) 915-6283. We look forward to seeing you all there! ALSO,
bring an item for our Ebay garage sale and receive a free raffle ticket.
Our last Breath Savers program was outstanding!
Dr. Brian Tiep, pulmonologist, researcher, inventor
and professor, spoke about the history of oxygen,
its use in treatment and research and the current
clinical trial, LOTT (Long-term Oxygen Treatment
Trial). He answered questions and connected so
readily with the audience with his brilliance and
wit. Thank you, Dr. Tiep and Mary Barnett, for a
great afternoon. If anyone is interested in more
information about the LOTT clinical trial, please
contact Mary Barnett at (909) 732-8281.
EBAY SALES YTD: $192. We could use more ITEMS. As it is the beginning of a new year, please look around your home to see if
you have any items to donate. You will be amazed at what will sell. Please call Julie at (626) 332-2047 if you have any questions.
Bring your items to our next monthly meeting or to the Pulmonary Rehab Department. All (100%) proceeds go to the BREATH
