Just listen; perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention … a loving silence has far more power to heal and to connect than the Recently we had the honor of having Dr. Brian Tiep speak to our group. He spoke and then he opened up the most well-intentioned forum for questions and provided answers. Afterwards I noticed several participants approach him with questions words.” How often do we ask someone “how they are doing” and not even listen to the response? How many times do we find ourselves listening but not hearing what is being said? Social networking and talk programs are all about talking and telling and much less about listening. How do we regain this powerful way of connecting? or concerns. He took time with each and every one of them. There was no feeling of being rushed. He listened. He had made a connection with them. ~ Rachel Naomi Remen What makes a good listener? Here are a few techniques: be empathetic; be present (not pre-occupied); be patient, be non-judgmental; be engaged and ask for clarification if needed; be aware of body language and remember that you don’t have to solve all problems, just listen. To be a good listener takes practice! So whomever you meet today or tomorrow, be it a stranger or a dear friend, try to be a good listener. You will be amazed at the results and the connections you will make. Happy Valentine’s Day! Thank you all for touching my life and making it so rich. Be well, remember to breathe and move...Nance Our next Breath Savers meeting will be Thursday, February 21, 2013. Lunch will be provided at noon for $7. You may bring your lunch if you prefer.
