General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Topic: The dangers of drinking and driving
A. Introduction:
My attention getter will be Josh Kapla and I will morning the death of our
good friend Caleb Grimes while he lays on the desk (coffin) dead. My
topic is the dangers of drinking and driving and its effects. The dangers of
drinking and driving are very important and knowing the effects can
seriously alter the way you live your life. I have been to many speeches
and seen the effects of drunk driving first hand many times. I have a good
friend in my home town that had a sister die while she was in high school
because of a drunk driver. So I will be informing you of the effects of
drinking and driving and why you should not do it.
B. Body
1. Drinking and driving can be a danger in the fact that you can severely
injure yourself. You could run into a tree, light pole, or something along
the side of the road.
2. Stepping into a car after you have become drunk is not only putting your
life on the line, it is also endangering everyone around you. When you are
driving under the influence your reaction time is off and there is a chance
that you could get in a crash.
3. Before you drink and drive you can not just think about yourself and the
punishment you may get in if you are not at home on time or have
somewhere to be. You have to think about the person that you may injure
or kill if you get in a crash. But more importantly you must think about
the family, friends and people that are close to that person. If you take the
life of someone you must think of the people you effect in return.
4. You be arrested for a DUI or DWI of you are caught driving after you
have gotten drunk. The legal limit is .08 and if you blow over that there
are serious consequences.
5. I have a close friend who had a sister die in a car crash almost 5 years ago.
They were on there way back from vacation and their care was hit by a
drunk driver. It not only took a toll on the family and friends but our
entire community.
C. In Summary the effects of drinking and driving are very serious and the
consequences far outweigh the decision to do it in the first place. So think before
you put yours or someone else’s life in jeopardy.
D. My visual aid will be my slide show.
E. My speech will last close to 5 minutes, in the required range of 4-6 minutes.
F. My references come from person experiences along with research I did on the
internet to find out more of the effects.
