Welcome to KEATS
What is KEATS?
Keats stands for King’s E-Learning and Teaching Services. It is an online system that supports
teaching and learning.
From this year, the PG Cert will be using this platform for:






Announcements on course days, updates to requirements, reminders, handbooks,
enrolments, resources etc
Discussions - a place for students to openly connect with other IATs and discuss topics
related to the PG Cert or IAT programme
Latest news
Upcoming Events
Modules coursework requirements and deadlines
Submissions of coursework
Where do I find KEATS?
KEATS can be accessed directly from the URL: http://keats.kcl.ac.uk
You can also find the service via the KCL Internal webpages (or by searching for it on major internet
search engines): https://internal.kcl.ac.uk
The KEATS main page will appear, as shown in figure 1.

How do I use KEATS?
1. Logging in
You can log in from the main page of KEATS (figure above). Enter your username (KCL number) and
password and click on the “Log in” button.

After logging in, your name should appear at the top right hand corner of the screen. If you click on
your name you should see a number of options. One of them is the “Log out” option.
2. The ‘My Home’ Page
After logging in to KEATS, you will see your personal “My Home” page. From here you can access any
courses you have been enrolled onto, using the links in the “Course Overview” list.
All students should be able to view the course ‘PG Cert in Applied Research Methods for Integrated
Academic Trainees’. If you cannot, please contact Keshala at iatadmin@kcl.ac.uk
The ‘IAT Programme’ will be launched in the near future so please look out for this course on our list
next month. It will contain information on broader programme announcements, studies and funding
opportunities.

Tip: You can always return to the “My Home” page by clicking the “My Courses” link from the row of
links at the top of the page or from the breadcrumb trail (top left, under the KCL logo) when you are
inside a course space.
You can click on the cross icon to the right of the title of each course to see a summary or
description of that course. This can be edited from the “Settings page” of each course.
FILTERS
Courses in the ‘Current’ tab are those in current academic year that you are enrolled in. When a
course is completed, or archived by the staff, then it will be in the ‘Previous’ tab. In the Previous tab
you can filter the courses by Teacher.

3. Profile, Contacts and Messaging
In the top right corner of My Home page, you will find your name. By clicking on your name you will
be able to access your profile, your courses, inbox and calendar.

4. Course areas
To expand the courses you can click on the ‘+’ sign at the end of the title to see a description. To
view the contents of the course click on the title ‘PG Cert in Applied Research Methods for
Integrated Academic Trainees’ and the course home page will appear (figure 6).

By clicking on ‘Important Announcements’ and ‘Discussions’ icons, you will be able to view the topics
raised by the course administrators and other students over time. Any updates or new topics will be
emailed to your KCL email. Please ensure you have set up email alerts to link your KCL email to your
most frequented email address or ensure you regularly check the KEATs site.
This site will become the main source of information for the PG Cert therefore it is important you
check it regularly so as to miss any updates, reminders or events.

MODULES
The modules are in grey boxes. To view the module requirements click on the ‘+’ sign and you can
click on ‘-‘sign to collapse the module again.

When you have opened the module you will be able to see the module requirements, course
handouts, questions, coursework submissions etc. These will appear below the module description,
as shown in figure 8.
SUBMITTING COURSE WORK
Coursework submissions are displayed by this icon
, by click on these icons you will opening the
area where you can upload your coursework and submit them.
