EQUIPMENT NEEDED: “CONGA” DANCE SONG, CD PLAYER
DESCRIPTION: Students are lined up in a conga line. All students have their hands on
the shoulders of the person in front of them. As the students continue with a conga line
around the gym, yell out the following moves: “Slide left”: Students slide to the left
while conga-ing, “Slide right”: Students slide to the right while conga-ing, “Change”:
Students turn 180 degrees around and do the conga the other way, “Around The World”:
Students turn 360 degrees around and continue cong-ing. “Forward Conga”: Forward.
“Backward Conga”: Backward.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: D’HAMMER SONG (MULTICULTURAL FOLK DANCE
TREASURE CHEST FROM HUMAN KINETICS)
DESCRIPTION: All students face a partner. The following moves are part of the
dance: Slap legs once, touch ribs once, clap own hands once, clap one of partner’s hands,
other partner’s hands, both partner’s hands (Repeat 8 times). After each clap sequence do
the following: 1. Skip in a circle holding partner’s hand, 2. Walk in a circle with arm
out straight ands hands on top of each others, 3. “Zombie Turn” Both arms out on
partner’s arms. Can be done in a group of 4.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: TANKO BUSHI SONG (MULTICULTURAL FOLK
DANCE TREASURE CHEST FROM HUMAN KINETICS)
DESCRIPTION: Simple dance with 5 moves: 1. Dig to right 2 times, dig to left 2
times. 2. Throw dirt over right shoulder once, throw dirt over left shoulder once. 3.
Wipe sweat right hand on forehead, wipe sweat left hand on forehead. 4. Push the cart
twice forward. 5. Clap sequence: Around, clap, pause, clap, clap, clap.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NAME OF ACTIVITY: HOOP SCOOP
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: SMALL HULA HOOPS, BOWLING PINS
DESCRIPTION: Two teams facing each other with a line dividing the two sides. Five
bowling pins are placed anywhere on each team’s side. The object is to knock down the
other team’s bowling pins by kicking and sliding the hoops at the pins to knock them
down. If a pin is knocked down = 10 points. If a student jumps in a hoop with both feet
while it is moving = 2 points each. All points must be reported to the teacher by the
student who scored the points.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: POI POIS (HOMEMADE OR REAL)
DESCRIPTION: A great coordination activity. Have students get two pois and spread
out. Some basic spins include: Single side swing, double side swing, single helicopter,
double helicopter, single airplane, double airplane, one helicopter / one airplane, figure 8.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: ONE LARGE HOOP, FOUR BASES, 5 TO 6 GATOR
SKIN BALLS
DESCRIPTION: One kicking team, one fielding team. No outs in this game, only runs.
In fact, all who kick get to run all four bases. The pitcher (me) reaches down to pitch the
ball to the first kicker in line. After that ball is kicked, I reach down into the hoop where
the balls are and pitch to the second kicker, and so on… The fielders get the balls and
return them to the hula hoop. If I reach down during the game and there are no balls to
pitch, then the kickers get a run. After all have kicked, teams switch places. Begin each
inning with 5 or more balls and reduce the number of balls by one each inning.
NAME OF ACTIVITY: AMBUTAN
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: BEANBAGS, LUMMI STICKS
DESCRIPTION: Groups of 3 to 4. Take 10 to 15 beanbags and pile them around a stick
that is held vertically. One at a time take the beanbags away trying not to let the stick fall
and touch the ground (If it touches other beanbags it’s O.K.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NAME OF ACTIVITY: TWISTED SISTER DOES THE MACARENA AT THE YMCA
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: “WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT” FROM TWISTED SISTER
DESCRIPTION: This is two dances in one. First, the “YMCA”. Second, the
“Macarena”. Macarena has the added “Hook ‘Em Horns” at the end of the sequence.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 50+ DOME CONES, LARGE HULA HOOPS
DESCRIPTION: In pairs, students spread out on the gym floor with one student
standing in a hoop (The Protector), and the other standing outside the hoop (The
Collector). Each group has three to five cones that touch the outside of the hula hoops.
On the start signal the Collector runs to other groups and tries to steal a cone without
getting tagged by other Protectors. If you steal one, return it to your Protector. If tagged,
they must go to another group to steal. Protectors must have both feet inside the hoop.
After 2 minutes change roles

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: ONE OR TWO SCOOTERS, 2 GREEN BALLS, 2
ORANGE BALLS, ONE RED BALL
DESCRIPTION: A tag game of prehistoric times! One student is the T-rex (Red Ball).
One is the triceratops (Scooter). T-rex tries to tag others by touching them with the ball.
If tagged, they must sit until the triceratops tags them back into the game. T-rex has bad
eye sight. If others don’t move, they can’t get tagged. Game stops after a minute or so.
Add diloposaurus (They spit-green balls). This dinosaur can see great and can throw the
ball! Play another minute or so. Add velocoraptor (Orange ball-don’t throw). These two
hunt in twos and must tag others at the same time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NAME OF ACTIVITY: SIDE TO SIDE KICKBALL
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 10 TO 12 CONES, HOME BASE, KICKBALL
DESCRIPTION: Arrange an even number of cones on either side of the gym on the
sideline. One team kicks while one fields. When a kicker kicks the ball, they run to
either sideline and stand on a cone. Then on the next kick (or their kick) they run to the
opposite sideline to touch the second cone. When a runner comes in contact with the
third cone, they can run home. The kicking team must be careful not to run out of cones
on one side because if they do, their inning is over. Three outs and their inning is over
too.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: BADMINTON NET & POLES, 14” BALZAC BALL
DESCRIPTION: Teams of three try to use soccer skills to kick ball back and forth over
net. Use the following set up for positions:

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: THREE POKER CHIPS PER STUDENT, SIX SIDED
DICE, DODGEBALL, COLORED PINNIES
DESCRIPTION: Arrange students into groups of six all with the same color pinnies.
Have them number themselves 1-6. All students begin with three poker chips. Each
group rolls the dice. The student with the rolled number is now it. They pick up the dice
(Or ball) and try to tag someone who has the same color on that they do. If they tag
someone, that person gives them one chip. If the ball is caught, the thrower gives up a
chip. After a chip is exchanged the dice is rolled again.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: TWO MEASURED POLES, ELASTIC STRING, TWO OR
THREE CONES, CRASH MATS
DESCRIPTION: All students line up behind the first cone (First chance cone). Set the
string at 1 foot off the floor. All students (One at a time) try to jump over the string and
land on their feet on the other side of the string. If they make it without touching the
string and land on their feet they get to stay behind first chance cone. If they touch the
string or do not land on their feet, then they line up behind second chance cone. If a
student touches while at second chance cone, they are asked to help with the poles and
the mats. After all make it over the current height, raise the string up 3 inches. Keep
going until there is one person left. How high can they go?
