Some FAQs from your Block 3 Instructors: Q: What can I do to prepare for the upcoming semester and get ready for nursing school? A: Check your email account to make sure you are getting our messages. A: Get oriented to the resources that come with your textbooks. Register immediately for textbook resources. The directions appear on the inside flap of each textbook. Complete the following tutorials. Med Math Tutorial This tutorial should be completed before school starts. Sign in to this tutorial as a guest. Cut and paste the following web address into your browser: http://www.m2hnursing.com/MedCal/module1_1.php 12/18/2014 7 AP TRANSFER -Welcome to Block 3 HYBRID Nursing Program. Q: What else can I do before the semester starts? A: Nursing school can be stressful, therefore consider how you might reduce your stress; test anxiety reduction exercises, courses, workshops, etc. Many of these courses/workshops are available on the main campus, or held on other sister colleges throughout the Maricopa Community College District. Set up appointments with Trini Sandoval 623-845-3069 or Lindra Fishleder 623-845-4852 Dr. Paul McKenna has CDs on relaxation and these can be found at a public library. They are excellent for learning to deal with stress. If you have a documented disability be sure to register with Disability Resource Services at the testing center office. Q: What is evidence based teaching and learning practice? A: We utilize evidenced based teaching and learning practices in the classroom. It is this very evidence that supports the use of mobile technologies like PDA’s (smartphones, or handheld technology such as iTouch devices) so that you have instant access to information at your “fingertips.” Recommended software Skyscape will provide a variety of resources at your fingertips and will be used for years after nursing school. The company updates the product on a regular basis. Go to www.skyscape.com for more information. Skyscape offers a nursing student package called Constellation Plus all in one package it is about $99.00. Additional books can be purchased for this app and all of the resources are resources a RN would use their entire career. Information can be found at this website: http://www.skyscape.com/estore/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=1044 There is a discount to add Diseases and Diagnosis text and it is well worth the cost for the special LINK feature this supports. Q: How important is it to buy the current textbooks? A: It is VERY important! Students are strongly advised to purchase the most current version of the textbooks used during the semester of their enrollment and throughout the program. Students who purchase textbooks from other websites are at a disadvantage because the information in the older textbooks is no longer accurate and assigned readings will not match the course syllabus. Additionally, since technology is highly valued, we do recommend purchasing eBOOKS or the eBOOKS + Print package from the various publishers. This semester we have added ATI testing and we will be using it in class for pharmacology. This product will need to be purchased. This class will use the Turning Point technology clickers. You must BUY the ResponseCard NXT. You can purchase from our bookstore or Turning Point technologies or a used device. Q: How do I use Canvas? A: Canvas is the MCCCD Learning Management System (LMS). This includes our intranet email. You can set up a forwarding email within Canvas so that messages within Canvas, including notifications and announcements come to your regular email or even 12/18/2014 8 AP TRANSFER -Welcome to Block 3 HYBRID Nursing Program. as a text message to your phone. For step by step instructions on use of canvas go to : http://guides.instructure.com/ Q: My Nursing Lab- do I need to use this resource? A: You are encouraged to create an account in MNL as an additional study resource. The URL for MNL is http://mynursinglab.com If you buy a Pearson bundle for OB and PEDS, or the PEDS/MNL or the OB/MNL – you will have access to a great study program for OB and/or PEDS. This program is designed to provide you a pretest, then a study/review topics based on the pretest, then a post test. It is a great study resource and can be used in a study group setting or as an individual. How to register for the MNL for peds and OB will be posted on Canvas.
