Immunization Requirements
To ensure that you will have all required health and safety documentation on file when your
classes begin, please complete the profile account in Certifiedbackground.
MaricopaNursing recently partnered with CertifiedBackground to provide students with an easier
system to track health and safety requirements required by clinical agencies for clinical
participation. This tracking system will help GCC to ensure that all students are in compliance
with agency requirements.
Students who have NOT completed the background check
Use package code LN43rn to complete the supplemental background check and to upload your
Health & Safety documents.
Students who have completed the background check
If you have completed the supplemental background check use package code LN43ap to upload
your Health & Safety documents.
After logging into CertifiedBackground, follow instructions for completing the background check
and/or uploading required health and safety documents into the Medical Document
Manager. After successful document upload, expiration reminders for all requirements will be
sent through CertifiedBackground. Students out of compliance with any program requirements
will not be permitted to attend clinical.
Please note: There is a $25 fee for the Medical Document Manager, which includes lifetime
access to all uploaded documents.

mandatory regulatory modules in the Online Clinical Orientation (OCO) system. Additional
modules will be required depending on your clinical agency requirements. Completion of these
modules will help provide you with basic information about safety, infection control, patient
confidentiality issues, and other important basics of health care provision. Please finish the five
mandatory regulatory modules and the agency-specific modules for your block clinicals before
January 6, 2015. You can access the OCO website by clicking on the link on the Welcome
Website or by going to https://www.myocoaz.com.
January 6, 2015: COMPLETE OCO REQUIREMENTS
Every student is required to sign on to the new Online Clinical Orientation system

Online Clinical Orientation is a District program and is the site to complete all
orientation material for all sites.
 All OCO Modules are good for one year. OCO will send a courtesy
reminder, but it is your responsibility to complete the modules. Failure to
do so will prevent you from attending clinical and cause you to fail the
block.
 The Banner system also requires all students to submit information in order for
Banner to perform a background security clearance screen for criminal activity,
sex offenders, and terrorism. Once this is completed it is good for continuing
students as long as they remain in their nursing program

Online Directions to set up GMAIL
GCC Student helpdesk: 623.845.3555, 2
To set up your Maricopa Gmail email account:
1. Go to my.maricopa.edu
2. Click on the student center and log in. If this is your first time, the site will help you
establish your MEID (Maricopa Enterprise Identification) and password.
3. Click on GoogleApps@Maricopa toward the top right area of the page.
4. Login (again) using your MEID and password.
5. Type the security word as instructed and click “I accept. Create my account.”
You now have the official Maricopa Gmail account. The email address is your
MEID@maricopa.edu. Administration and faculty use this account to contact you for
official college business so it is important that you check your email often and update
your personal contact information. Keeping your information current will also allow the
Maricopa Emergency Management System to send you important, last minute
information.
Have too many email accounts? You can forward emails from your Maricopa Gmail
box to your personal account by following these easy steps:
1. In your Maricopa Gmail account, click on settings in the upper right hand corner.
2. Select “Forwarding POP/IMAP” at the top of the page.

selected email account.
Some FAQs from your Block 3 Instructors:
Q: What can I do to prepare for the upcoming semester and get ready for nursing
school?
A: Check your email account to make sure you are getting our messages.
A: Get oriented to the resources that come with your textbooks. Register immediately for
textbook resources. The directions appear on the inside flap of each textbook. Complete
the following tutorials.
 Med Math Tutorial
This tutorial should be completed before school starts. Sign in to this tutorial as a
guest. Cut and paste the following web address into your browser:

12/18/2014
7
AP TRANSFER -Welcome to Block 3 HYBRID Nursing Program.
Q: What else can I do before the semester starts?
A: Nursing school can be stressful, therefore consider how you might reduce your stress;
test anxiety reduction exercises, courses, workshops, etc. Many of these
courses/workshops are available on the main campus, or held on other sister colleges
throughout the Maricopa Community College District. Set up appointments with Trini
Sandoval 623-845-3069 or Lindra Fishleder 623-845-4852
Dr. Paul McKenna has CDs on relaxation and these can be found at a public library. They
are excellent for learning to deal with stress.
If you have a documented disability be sure to register with Disability Resource Services
at the testing center office.
Q: What is evidence based teaching and learning practice?
A: We utilize evidenced based teaching and learning practices in the classroom. It is this
very evidence that supports the use of mobile technologies like PDA’s (smartphones, or
handheld technology such as iTouch devices) so that you have instant access to
information at your “fingertips.” Recommended software Skyscape will provide a variety
of resources at your fingertips and will be used for years after nursing school. The
company updates the product on a regular basis. Go to www.skyscape.com for more
information. Skyscape offers a nursing student package called Constellation Plus all in
one package it is about $99.00. Additional books can be purchased for this app and all of
the resources are resources a RN would use their entire career. Information can be found
at this website: http://www.skyscape.com/estore/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=1044
There is a discount to add Diseases and Diagnosis text and it is well worth the cost for the
special LINK feature this supports.
Q: How important is it to buy the current textbooks?
A: It is VERY important! Students are strongly advised to purchase the most current
version of the textbooks used during the semester of their enrollment and throughout the
program. Students who purchase textbooks from other websites are at a disadvantage
because the information in the older textbooks is no longer accurate and assigned
readings will not match the course syllabus. Additionally, since technology is highly
valued, we do recommend purchasing eBOOKS or the eBOOKS + Print package from
the various publishers.
This semester we have added ATI testing and we will be using it in class for
pharmacology. This product will need to be purchased.
This class will use the Turning Point technology clickers. You must BUY the
ResponseCard NXT. You can purchase from our bookstore or Turning Point
technologies or a used device.
Q: How do I use Canvas?
A: Canvas is the MCCCD Learning Management System (LMS). This includes our
intranet email. You can set up a forwarding email within Canvas so that messages within
Canvas, including notifications and announcements come to your regular email or even
12/18/2014

as a text message to your phone. For step by step instructions on use of canvas go to :
http://guides.instructure.com/
Q: My Nursing Lab- do I need to use this resource?
A: You are encouraged to create an account in MNL as an additional study resource.
The URL for MNL is http://mynursinglab.com If you buy a Pearson bundle for OB and
PEDS, or the PEDS/MNL or the OB/MNL – you will have access to a great study
program for OB and/or PEDS. This program is designed to provide you a pretest, then a
study/review topics based on the pretest, then a post test. It is a great study resource and
can be used in a study group setting or as an individual. How to register for the MNL for
peds and OB will be posted on Canvas.
