Specifically, we focused on two crowdsourcing opportunities: First, when generating ideas for creative work, crowds can provide diverse ideas and examples for users to explore. Second, crowds can provide constructive feedback for users to improve their work. • Aimed at ACM UIST ’13 Leveraging the Crowd to Improve Feature-Sentiment Analysis of User Reviews Designed and developed an intelligent interface to help users digest a huge amount of online reviews. The system has an innovative interface to provide real-time feedback when a user is writing reviews. Therefore, the user can provide useful labels by simply correcting the mistakes made by the system. These labels can then be used to train SVM classifiers that allow readers to highlight feature-related information. • Published in ACM UIST ’12 and submitted to ACM IUI ’13 Motivating Workers in Crowdsourcing Utilizing the Power of Peer Workers Conducted a series of experiments to see how the presence of peer workers can be used to enhance the quality of crowdsourcing outcomes. Our results show that some mechanisms (e.g., increasing social transparency, pairing workers) can make crowd workers perform significantly better. • To appear in ACM CSCW ’13 and conditionally accepted to ACM CHI ’13 Systematic Analysis of Games with a Purpose Studied the effects of different components of output agreement games, one of the most popular forms of games with a purpose (GWAP). The results show that a gaming environment (e.g., scoring system, leaderboard) effectively motivates players to generate high-quality work and the social interaction between players is the key for GWAP to recruit volunteers. • Published in AAAI workshop on Human Computation (HCOMP ’12) Visualizing Time-Evolving Activities Using Communication Archive Data Built a novel visualization to assist users in exploring their communication archive data. Our visualization could help users easily identify the groups and activities in their dynamic social networks. Moreover, the system has an interface that allows users to easily interact with their archive data. • Published in ACM SIGGRAPH Asia ’11 Shih-Wen Huang 2 PUBLICATIONS Huang, S.-W. and Fu, W.-T., "Don’t Hide in the Crowd!
