CROSSROADS DIVERSIFIED SERVICES
OVERVIEW
Crossroads Diversified Services, Inc. (CDS) is a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation, providing
workforce development, specialized employment and placement services for persons with
disabilities, consulting and technical assistance, and custom-tailored integrated facility management
solutions. Since 1977, Crossroads Diversified Services has provided education, training and support
to enhance employment opportunities for people with disabilities or other social barriers to achieve
employment. Crossroads is a business-conscious nonprofit which relies on a social enterprise
model to sustain its core mission, which is to put people back to work and positively impact the
communities in which they serve. Crossroads has a rich history of innovation for the past 35 years
in using an entrepreneurial for-profit subsidiary to fund the non-profit mission. Its wholly owned
for-profit subsidiary, Crossroads Facility Service (CFS) was established in 2008, and provides a wide
range of integrated facility management solutions for commercial and government customers. The
sole mission of CFS is to provide financial support for the nonprofit mission of Crossroads.
CDS and CFS are guided by two separate volunteer Boards of Directors, made up of individuals who
have the desire, expertise and passion to help people get back to work. CDS employs 215
employees with annual revenues of $10 million. CFS employs 53 employees and generates $3
million in revenues for a combined total of $13 million in revenues and 268 employees. Business
operations currently take place in the greater Sacramento area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and
Texas, with the goal to expand through smart growth nationally in the future.
SERVICING CROSSROADS’ MISSION
Employment Services
Crossroads' employment and workforce development programs prepare displaced and/or disabled
individuals for competitive employment by providing comprehensive support and employment
services. Through program partnerships with agencies including Source America (formerly NISH),
Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA), Sacramento Works, Sacramento County,
California Department of Rehabilitation and the United States Social Security Administration,
Crossroads provides a variety of services crucial for job seekers searching for employment, or
looking to acquire new skills in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Although Crossroads has evolved and now provides employment services to all job seekers wanting
to get back to work, the main goal of serving people with disabilities still remains. Crossroads
provides a full-range of vocational rehabilitation, supported employment and job placement
services for people with disabilities. Through individualized services, clients are able to successfully
secure and maintain employment. Many of Crossroads’ facility services employees began first as
Crossroads clients – struggling with a disability but yet having the desire to work and become more
self-sufficient. With Crossroads’ help, they became employees of the organization; some have been
with the organization for more than 30 years!

Bottom line: Crossroads helps individuals transition from public benefits recipients to tax
contributors. Gainful employment has also proven to be key to their recovery and overall stability
of individuals with disabilities, enabling them the pride that comes with earning a paycheck.
Facility Services
Since 1980, Crossroads has provided janitorial services in federal buildings, creating over 200 jobs
for people with disabilities utilizing the Source America “Ability One” program. Through an
innovative quality assurance process and streamlined supervision, Crossroads has become a
recognized leader in managing disabled workforces; they have garnered productivity results actually
exceeding those of non-disabled workforces. These positions are primarily in commercial janitorial
and landscaping. Crossroads offers competitive wages to individuals who have long faced
unemployment and with the guidance of the program, rise to these opportunities admirably,
changing their lives and adding greatly to the companies they serve.
The average tenure of Crossroads’ disabled workforce is more than 15 years, reflecting stability in
employment.
