2. Rape Crisis Centers - updated Language Capacity Chart
Attached please find the January 2012 DPH-funded Rape Crisis Center list and corresponding Language Capacity
Chart indicating current languages spoken by each center’s staff/volunteers, by first name and whether the individual
is at the RCC part-time or full-time.
Please see the attachment for more information. For example, all centers also contract with a language line for
interpretation services (see last page of Language Capacity Chart), to be able to serve people in languages other than
those for which the RCC has their own staff/volunteer capacity. DPH updates this statewide list at least once a year but
some of it may change during the year, so please feel free contact an RCC directly if you want the most up-to-date
information. Please share this with program staff and providers who have contact with potential clients. Thank you!

5. Team IMPACT: Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization based out of Quincy, MA that matches children with lifethreatening illnesses with college athletic teams around New England and we are always looking for children to add to
our "roster". To date we have matched children with colleges such as Boston College, Harvard, Tufts, and Merrimack
to name a few. We are always looking for new family and child referrals who would benefit from our program.
Below I have listed the links to our website, our parent's perspective video, medical board of advisors, and
the ESPN.com article about Team IMPACT and the Boston College men's basketball team.

6. Second Edition of ChopChop, free monthly newsletter offering healthy recipes: We are pleased to send you
the second edition of ChopChop, a free monthly newsletter offering fun, healthy recipes for Massachusetts families.
Each edition of the ChopChop newsletter will include a personal message from the Patrick-Murray Administration
highlighting the importance of parents spending time with their children preparing fresh, healthy meals – plus a new
recipe each month featuring Massachusetts-grown produce. The newsletter is available in English and Spanish.
The ChopChop newsletter is the product of an innovative partnership with ChopChop Magazine, a nationwide
quarterly publication that focuses on fun, healthy cooking for families. The free newsletter will be posted on the
Department of Public Health’s Mass in Motion website at www.mass.gov/massinmotion/chopchop Please help
distribute it by emailing, linking it to websites and e-newsletters or printing out copies to share with families. A new
version will be available at the beginning of the month during 2012. We launched the e-newsletter in December - here
is a link to our launch event http://publichealth.blog.state.ma.us/2012/01/chopchop-event-video.html
The ChopChop newsletter is designed to complement the Patrick-Murray Administration’s groundbreaking Mass in
Motion initiative, a multi-faceted program launched in 2009 to combat obesity and chronic disease in Massachusetts by
encouraging residents to eat better and move more. Learn more about Mass in Motion at
www.mass.gov/massinmotion
The Massachusetts ChopChop newsletter is available online at: www.mass.gov/massinmotion/chopchop. Please share
this through newsletters, blogs, or linking to your website.
Thank you, Eileen M. Sullivan, Senior Program Director, Office of the Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, 250 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02108, 617-624-5257, Eileen.M.Sullivan@state.ma.us
7. IMPORTANT: School Health Website: The Department has made many changes in its website. The School
Health Service Program is now available at www.mass.gov/dph/fch/schoolhealth You may wish to book mark this.

9. Question about PIN numbers for schools holding flu clinics: I just confirmed with Commonwealth Medicine
that if schools want to bill separately from the health department, they can call Commonwealth Medicine to be
assigned a separate number from Commonwealth Medicine for billing purposes.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support school clinics. We appreciate all
the work that you do. Donna Lazorik, RN, MS, Immunization Program , Bureau of Infectious Diseases,
Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 617-983-6821
10. Marijuana Resource Center: The new Marijuana Resource Center put together by ONDCP under Director
Kerlikowske is one if the most comprehensive online tools available. The FAQ section is especially a wealth of
information with direct links to studies and it counters legalization arguments quite effectively. Though the site is
extremely comprehensive (since it has links to more exhaustive studies, etc.) it is also punchy and concise at the same
time (and therefore readable and usable). It will greatly assist all of us.

11. IMPORTANT: Measles Alert!!!!
The Indiana Department of Health recently announced that a case of measles has been confirmed in a child who was
infectious while attending pre-game activities at the “Super Bowl Village” in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the afternoon
and evening of Friday February 3, 2012. Super Bowl Village was a three-block outdoor pedestrian area in downtown
Indianapolis.
Because of this potential exposure, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Communicable
Disease Control, encourages healthcare providers in Massachusetts to consider measles in susceptible patients with
rash illness who attended the pre-game activities at the Super Bowl Village on February 3, 2012.
Please see the attached advisory, which will also be posted will be posted on the MDPH web site under Advisories,
Alerts and Events.
