GRAND MARAIS DRAIN CHANNEL IMPROVEMENTS - CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT DOUGALL AVENUE TO WEST OF HURON CHURCH ROAD Purpose This is the first of at least two Public Drop-In Centres that will be held over the course of this study. This Drop-In Centre is intended to: Present the Problem / Opportunity Statement for the project Introduce the members of the Project Team Present the scope of the study and the Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process Define the study area and the existing conditions at the site Present the initial design alternatives that are being considered Obtain feedback from local residents and community groups The next Drop-In Centre will be held in February, 2012. Design options showing where the Alternative Solutions would best be implemented along the Grand Marais Drain will be presented at that time, based in part on the feedback that is obtained from the public today. Problem / Opportunity Statement The following statement was developed by the Project Team to define the Problem / Opportunity to be addressed through this Class EA: “In order to maximize the potential benefits to the surrounding community, this study will identify alternative means and measures for restoring the concrete-lined segment of the Grand Marais Drain; with a focus on exploring the potential for establishing improved connections between the communities on either side of the Drain, and for making recreational, aesthetic, and habitat improvements within the channel corridor.”
