Each class has an instructor and teaching assistant. All instructors have expertise in their disciplines and come from a range of professional backgrounds. They include outstanding teachers from public and private schools and universities, graduate students, and professionals in their fields. Teaching assistants are generally advanced undergraduate students majoring in the subject being taught. How large are the classes? Eighteen students is the normal class size for students in grades 7 through 10, although some may have as many as twenty. For students in grades 5 and 6 the class size is 15 students. Each class typically has a teaching assistant as well as an instructor; therefore, the student to teacher ratio in all classes is 10:1 or less. Do CTY students ever have time for fun? Yes! Veteran CTY students often point out that they value the social experience at CTY as much as the classes. Outside of class, students get involved in a variety of activities, from sports to the arts to the more esoteric (such as playing Silent Football). cty.jhu.edu cty.jhu.edu cty.jhu.edu cty.jhu.edu cty.jhu.edu About CTYOnline Program • CTYOnline offers challenging and flexible online courses, all year round, that match the abilities of each gifted student. • Courses are student-centered and interactive, with many projects, games and lively videos • The program offers both acceleration and enrichment • Students work with a CTY instructor, who guides, mentors, and provides extensive feedback and encouragement • Students have final assessment and receive course completion documents, including final evaluation and recommendation for future course work from instructor cty.jhu.edu Course List Mathematics Computer Science Accelerated Mathematics • Pre-Primary Mathematics (Pre-K, K) • Accelerated and Honors Mathematics (Gr. 5- 6) • Problem Solving Courses, (Gr 2-8) • Honors Pre-algebra • Honors Algebra I and II • Honors Geometry • Honors Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus • AP Calculus AB and BC • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • s Competitive Mathematics • Math Olympiad for Elementary School Students (Gr. 5-6) • MATHCOUNTS® Prep (Gr. 6-8) • MATHCOUNTS® (Gr. 7-8) • Competitive Mathematics Prep (Gr. 8-10) • Competitive Mathematics for High School Students (Gr. 9-12) College Level Mathematics • Linear Algebra (Gr. 9-12) • Multivariable Calculus (Gr. 9-12) • Differential Equations (Gr. 9-12) • Introduction to Abstract Mathematics (Gr. 9-12) Scratch Programming for Elementary School Students (Gr. 3-5) Scratch Programming for Middle School Students (Gr. 6-12) Introduction to Web Design (Gr. 6-12) Advanced Web Design (Gr. 6-12) JavaScript (Gr. 6-12) Introduction to Java (Gr. 9-12) Advanced Java Programming (Gr. 9-12) Science and Engineering Earth and Space Science (Gr. 6-8) Life Science (Gr. 6-8) Physical Science (Gr. 6-8) High School Science Honors Biology (Gr. 8-12) Honors Chemistry (Gr. 8-12) Honors Physics (Gr. 8-12) Engineering Inventions in Engineering (Gr. 3-5) AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1 and 2 STEM Enrichment • • • • Intro to Chess (Gr. 2+) Inventions in Engineering, (Gr 3-5) Cryptography: Math and Codes (Gr. 6-9) Intro to Forensics (Gr. 7 and up) cty.jhu.edu Course List (cont’d) World Languages (Gr. 2-6 and 7-12) Advanced Placement (Gr. 9-12) • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Chinese Language Spanish Language Arabic Language World Languages Reading Series Language Arts • • • • • • Young Readers' Series (Gr. 2-5) Young Adult Readers’ Series (Gr. 6-9) Grammar Fundamentals (Gr. 4-6) Art Meets Science: Literature and Non-Fiction (Gr. 6-7) Language Rules: Building Blocks (Gr. 3-4) From Structure to Style (Gr. 7-12) Writing • • • • • • The Process of Writing (Gr. 5-6) Writing for an Audience (Gr. 6-7) Crafting the Essay (Gr. 7-12) Writing Analysis and Persuasion (Gr 8-12) Crafting Fiction (Gr. 8-12) Crafting Poetry (Gr. 8-12) AP Calculus (AB and BC) AP Chinese Language and Culture AP Computer Science AP English Language and Composition AP Biology AP Chemistry AP Physics 1 and 2 AP Macroeconomics AP Microeconomics AP Psychology AP Statistics AP US Government and Politics AP US History Mastering the Fundamentals of Music (Gr. 5-9) For full course list, please visit: http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/courses/ cty.jhu.edu Course Format Session Based Courses • • • • • Writing Critical Reading Grammar Visual Fluency Forensics • • • • • Music Theory World Languages Engineering and Forensics AP Inventions in Engineering Individually Paced Courses • Math • Computer Science and Technology • Science cty.jhu.edu Ideal Timeline for Summer Program Application Mar–May Enrollment Jun–Aug Program Dec–Feb Program Application Now Why Nov–Dec Test Who & How What Program When Tuitions and Fees Video cty.jhu.edu Tuition Fees for Reference WHAT FEES in 2014/15 Talent Search Application Fee $55 (non-US residents) $40 (US residents) CTY Summer Program Application Fee (non-refundable) $50 (US citizen or permanent residents) $125 (otherwise) Residential (includes room and meals) ~ $4000 + additional fees Commuter (includes meals) ~ $3000 + additional fees CTYOnline Programs Application Fee $15 + $15 (international fee) Individually-paced $ 718 (3 months), $1379 (6 months) $1976 (9 months) $245 (1-month extension) Session-based $300 - $1330 Flex-paced $885 Why Who & How What Program When Tuitions and Fees Video cty.jhu.edu Video… Why Who & How What Program When Tuitions and Fees Video cty.jhu.edu Questions?
