OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOST July 11, 2014 MEMORANDUM TO: Academic Deans FROM: John D. Simon, Executive Vice President and Provost RE: Faculty Salary Merit Increase – October 2014 As was reported to you on June 25, the University has decided to delay the effective date of the faculty and University staff salary increases from July to October of this year. The salary increases will be funded from a combination of the revenue generated from recentlyapproved tuition increases (both undergraduate and graduate) and reallocation of existing resources. Average merit increases would be 4.75 percent for T&R faculty and 3 percent for professional research staff, plus related fringe benefits. Professional research staff increases should be funded from existing sources. In an effort to fully fund the salary increase this year, the Provost will make available for distribution funds he has been holding to address faculty salary issues that may arise from the Salary Equity Study. Because we have opted to distribute this reserve to support the base salary increase, schools are asked to hold 10 percent of their salary allocation in reserve to address any equity issues that are presented as a result of the Salary Equity Study. Now that revenue is being attributed to the schools in accordance with the University’s transition to a new financial model, each dean will be expected to set aside the necessary resources to address these critical issues as they arise. The Discoverer report “HR_Salary Management” is available to run to initiate the merit increase process. The following are guidelines related to salary increases for teaching and research faculty: • Increases should be awarded in accordance with the school’s approved peer review plan and methodology for distributing increases. • Increases are awarded based on individual merit and are not awarded “across the board” or on a pre-determined merit-based scale; Booker House P.O.
