two campuses,
one great education
Georgia Tech’s prestige knows no boundaries. Atlanta and Savannah
serve as accommodating campuses to foster creative, outside-thebox thinking. Whether seeking the metropolitan life on campus in
Atlanta or an education in engineering within the coastal setting of
Savannah, students personalize their own college adventure at Tech.
Any prospective transfer student that meets Georgia Tech’s admission
requirements and deadlines may apply to either the Savannah or
Atlanta campus.
Atlanta Campus
Amongst the hustle and bustle of a major metropolis sits Georgia
Tech Atlanta, a collegiate oasis set within Midtown’s active business
district. All thirty-five undergraduate degree programs, in the
Colleges of Management, Sciences, Engineering, Computing,
Liberal Arts, and Architecture, are offered at this 450-acre campus,
home to more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Research focuses on technology that spurs economic growth, and
students can assist on projects in innovative fields like nanoscience,
optics and phototonics, and robotics. Far-reaching, on-campus initiatives like the Aware Home (an interdisciplinary residential laboratory
used to solve home life needs of today and the future) or the Ovarian
Cancer Institute (scientists seeking earlier detection and more effective
treatment of ovarian cancer) help contribute to an environment
steeped in questioning life’s limitations. Imagine living and studying
next door to the meaningful work being done here every day—we
invite you to become a part of Tech’s groundbreaking research.
Savannah Campus
Georgia Tech Savannah, occupying a 46-acre tract within Savannah’s
Technology and Engineering Campus, features programs in civil
engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and
mechanical engineering. This intimate campus features a bookstore,
café, library, student lounge, distance-capable classrooms, and more
than thirty laboratories. Distance-capable classrooms and studios
allow seamless collaboration between both campuses—from
classroom instruction and research projects to guest lectures and
student organizations.
Savannah’s engineers-in-the-making have access to unique
research and internship/employment opportunities specific to
the Southeast region of Georgia. Research focuses on advanced
learning and education; global coastal systems; hazards and
forensics; and system simulation, design, and realization. Students
might investigate alternative energy sources, such as off-shore wind
farms, or study infrastructure of the world’s port systems, utilizing
the coastal setting as the ultimate living laboratory.

Financial assistance
Scholarships and Financial Aid
One thing that sets Georgia Tech apart from other schools with prestigious academic reputations is our cost. At Tech,
you will receive a high-quality education at a reasonable, competitive cost.
Note: International students on F-1 visas are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
May 1 is the deadline for transfer applicants to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal
processor and the Georgia Tech Application for Financial Aid and Scholarships to the Georgia Tech Office of Scholarships
and Financial Aid. The FAFSA is available online (www.fafsa.ed.gov). For more information, contact the Office of

studying at tech
“There’s no class at Tech that’s not possible if you put your
time into it. The biggest thing I had to learn when I first
came here was time management—that was the hardest
thing. You have to balance between school and a social life,
and once you get that down, you’re good.”

“A transfer student should definitely experience living on
campus. When you live off campus, you’re not nearly as
connected to Tech as you could be. You can’t just walk out
of your dorm room and say hi to your friend next door or
go to the Student Center.”

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
global REAch
Beyond the U.S. campuses of Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia Tech
makes an international statement with a degree-program campus in
France, graduate programs in Singapore and Shanghai, and a research
campus in Ireland. Extending Tech’s global reach allows students
from across the country and the world to attend this acclaimed
institution and receive the same caliber of education as provided at
its U.S. campuses. Tech also has partnerships with many international
institutions for various research endeavors and degree programs
throughout the world. We also have a long-standing commitment to
our students to prepare them for a global economy and workplace
through study abroad opportunities and our innovative International
Plan (see below).
Co-op/Internships/Career Services
Approximately 3,000 Georgia Tech undergraduates currently
participate in the co-op program, a plan that alternates academic
terms at work with terms at school while adding one additional
year to a student’s schedule. Participation in the Cooperative Plan
requires a separate application. Students who transfer to Georgia
Tech as sophomores or as Regents’ Engineering Transfer Program or
dual degree students are automatically eligible for co-op. All other
interested transfer students are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
For more information or to request an application, visit www.coop.

Tech degree provides a strong foundation for educational opportunities
in medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, and law schools.
Tech also offers training and the appropriate coursework to students interested in teaching several high school and middle school
subjects. Students are advised to meet with the teaching advisor in
addition to their regular academic advisor for course selection.
All major schools have preprofessional advisors to assist students
in the selection of a program of study. Visit www.admiss.gatech.
edu/degrees/prepp.html or www.undergradstudies.gatech.
edu/preteaching.
Undergraduate Research
If you want more from your academic experience than traditional
lectures and classwork can deliver, consider joining the world of
research at Georgia Tech. Research allows students to earn new
knowledge through inquiry, investigation, and discovery, and it is
one of the most exciting intellectual journeys they can take. See

Academic Honesty
The Academic Honor Code, a student initiative, became official
Georgia Tech policy in 1996. Students are required to sign an
honor agreement acknowledging their awareness of the code. The
objective of the Academic Honor Code is to strengthen the level of
academic integrity and trust within the Tech community. For more
information, contact the Honor Advisory Council at 404.894.6367
or visit www.honor.gatech.edu.
l i f e at g e org i a t e c h
Life outside the classroom is just as important as the lessons taught
inside. The most successful Tech students are those who study hard
and have a full life outside of the academic arena. Getting involved
in activities outside the classroom is a great way to meet new
people, develop leadership skills, have a great time, and bring balance
to your life. Tech offers numerous avenues for campus involvement
through student organizations and clubs focused on fine arts,
publications and media, and sports.
Additional options include numerous fraternities and sororities,
religious organizations, community service organizations, cultural
and diversity groups, national or departmental honor societies, and
networking groups, like Savannah’s Alumni Mentor Program.
And if the four-hundred-plus student activities don’t fit your
needs, there is always the chance to start a brand new organization!

transfer apPlicant
requirements
requirements for transfer admission
Transfer admission to Georgia Tech is selective as more applications
from qualified students are received than can be accommodated. All
transfer applicants must meet the following minimum requirements
by completing the specific courses, total number of credit hours,
and minimum grade point average (GPA), all at another institution,
in order to be considered for possible admission to Georgia Tech.
Successful candidates for admission will be selected from the pool
of applicants that meet or exceed these requirements, which vary
by major. A transfer applicant must apply for one specific major
and will be evaluated based on the criteria for that major. These
requirements are subject to change; please visit www.transfer.
gatech.edu for the most up-to-date information.
Overall Criteria
• A minimum of thirty semester or forty-five quarter hours that
are transferable to Georgia Tech.
• All of the specifically required courses on the Course
Requirements by Major chart for the prospective major.
• The minimum GPA for the prospective major, which applies
to both the overall GPA and the GPA of the student’s math
and science courses, as outlined on this page.
Transferable Hours
The minimum number of transferable hours must include the
required courses for the prospective major. There is no maximum
number of hours that a student may transfer; however, all degreeseeking students must complete at least the last thirty-six hours of
the degree at Georgia Tech.
Required Courses
None of the required courses may be taken at Georgia Tech as they
are actual prerequisites for admission consideration. They must be
completed at another institution before an admission decision can
be made. These courses must be equivalent to the corresponding
Georgia Tech courses as described on the Course Requirements by
Major chart and all courses must be completed with a grade of C
or higher in order to fulfill the requirements. The schedule for
completion of required courses is described in the Important
Deadlines section on this page.
Minimum GPA
Based on the U.S. 4.0 GPA system, the minimum GPA requirement
for most majors is 2.7 for Georgia residents, 3.0 for non-Georgia
U.S. residents, and 3.5 for international students. Because admission
to the Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programs
is highly competitive, applicants to these programs must have a
GPA of at least 3.0 for Georgia residents, 3.5 for non-Georgia U.S.
residents, and 3.8 for international students. Further, all applicants
must be in good standing during the last term of enrollment at their
prior institutions.
Application Deadlines
Transfer applicants may apply for any of the three semester terms
(Fall, Spring, or Summer) if all minimum admission requirements are
completed by the document deadline for that term. The completed
transfer application must be submitted by the application deadline,
and all other required documents must be submitted by the
document deadline. It is in the best interest of all students to submit
as much of the required documentation as early as possible, saving
only the final transcript or evaluation for the document deadline.
Transfer of Academic Credit
Georgia Tech generally grants credit for any course, from an
accredited college or university, that corresponds to a course in
our curriculum in content and credit value when the student has
achieved a C or higher. For a list of schools and courses that have
already been evaluated by Georgia Tech, see the Transfer Equivalencies
table at https://oscar.gatech.edu.
To have coursework from non-U.S. colleges and universities
reviewed for potential transfer credit, a Course-by-Course with
GPA Evaluation from a professional foreign credential evaluator
along with detailed course descriptions must be submitted so that
the various academic departments at Georgia Tech can determine
whether the coursework corresponds to our curriculum in content
and credit value. (See How to Apply for Transfer Admission, Step 4,
on page 12 for information on how to obtain a Course-by-Course
with GPA Evaluation.)

Special/Transient Students
Students attending Tech on a special or transient student status
are classified as non-degree-seeking students and are not normally
eligible to continue studies at Georgia Tech. Special or transient
status makes a student eligible for admission during the approved
term only and neither implies nor guarantees future enrollment at
Georgia Tech. Specific deadlines to apply as a special or transient
student may be found at www.admiss.gatech.edu/nondegree.
A special student is one who is not currently pursuing a degree
at another institution and who desires to enroll at Georgia Tech
for one or more terms to take certain advanced coursework for
personal or professional growth. The student is not enrolled in
10 Georgia Tech w w w . g a t e c h . e d u
classes for the primary purpose of obtaining a degree. The student
who has already received a bachelor’s degree may enroll as a special
student for a maximum of twenty semester hours. The student
who has not yet completed a bachelor’s degree can only enroll as a
special student for a maximum of twelve semester hours.
Special students who apply to Georgia Tech must also submit a
completed Non-degree Applicant Permission form found online at
www.admiss.gatech.edu/nondegree.
A transient student is one who enrolls at Georgia Tech for one
term only (usually during the summer term) in order to take certain
applicable advanced coursework that will transfer back to his or her
home institution. The student should be planning to return to the
home institution to complete coursework for a degree. A transient
student must have permission to take classes at Georgia Tech as
authorized by the registrar at the home institution.
Transient students who apply to Georgia Tech must also submit
a completed Non-degree Applicant Permission form obtained from
the Office of Undergraduate Admission or found online at
www.admiss.gatech.edu/nondegree.
Registration for any course depends upon availability. Appropriate
Georgia Tech officials must approve registration for any course.
Enrollment in unauthorized courses will result in an automatic
course withdrawal by the Institute.
Any student admitted in a non-degree status wishing to later
pursue degree-seeking admission must apply and follow the
requirements and guidelines for transfer admission at Georgia
Tech, as outlined at www.transfer.gatech.edu. There must be a
one-term gap between enrollment in a non-degree status and an
application for degree-seeking admission.
Dual Degree Program
A dual degree student is one who attends a participating liberal
arts college for three years, then Tech for approximately two years.
Upon completion of the program of study, the student receives
degrees from both the liberal arts college and from Georgia Tech.
Programs of study at Georgia Tech may concentrate in any of the
various engineering specialties. The list of colleges participating in
the Dual Degree Program incorporates several units of the University
System of Georgia, as well as Morehouse College, Spelman College,
Clark Atlanta University, and approximately twenty-five other colleges
and universities throughout the nation, including historically black
colleges and women’s colleges. Because of their classification as
transfer students, Dual Degree Program applicants must meet all
requirements for transfer admission.
Students interested in further details regarding the Dual Degree
Program should contact the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate
Admission or the Dual Degree Program coordinator at one of the
participating colleges. For a complete list of participating Dual
Degree Program schools and coordinators, go to www.admiss.
gatech.edu/dualdegree.
Dual degree students who apply to Georgia Tech must also
submit a completed Dual Degree Program recommendation form,
which may be obtained from the dual degree coordinator at your
participating liberal arts college.
Regents’ Engineering Transfer Program (RETP)
An RETP student is a Georgia resident who has attended one of
fifteen participating colleges in the University System of Georgia
and then continues a program of study leading to a bachelor’s
degree in engineering from Georgia Tech.
During their two years of enrollment at a participating institution,
RETP students are able to complete all of the mathematics and
science courses, as well as many of the engineering courses,
required in the first two years of the Georgia Tech curricula. A
student who successfully completes the RETP requirements at his
or her participating institution will be given equal consideration for
beginning the junior year at Georgia Tech with other students who
enter Tech as freshmen.
A list of participating schools can be found online at the Web site
below. Guidelines on admission and further information about the
program should be obtained from these colleges or the Georgia
Tech Office of Undergraduate Admission.
RETP students who apply to Georgia Tech must also submit a
completed RETP recommendation form, which is available from
the RETP advisor at your current institution. Visit www.admiss.
gatech.edu/retp.
Georgia Tech Regional Engineering Program
(GTREP)
GTREP allows qualified students interested in a bachelor’s degree in
civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or
mechanical engineering to transfer to the Georgia Tech Savannah
campus after completing their first two years on the campus of
Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Armstrong Atlantic State
University (Savannah), or Savannah State University (Savannah).
During the last two years of instruction at Georgia Tech Savannah,
GTREP students can continue to pay the student fees of their chosen
university for access to campus facilities. For admission information,
contact the GTREP advisor at your preferred GTREP institution. See
www.admiss.gatech.edu/gtrep.
Second Undergraduate Degree students
A second undergraduate degree student is someone who has
completed a bachelor’s degree from another accredited institution
and wishes to enroll at Georgia Tech to obtain a second undergraduate
degree in a different major or field of study. In order to be accepted
for enrollment, students must have completed all of the minimum
requirements as indicated for regular transfer applicants, including
the specific courses on the Course Requirements by Major chart and
the minimum GPA (see page 8).
Other Partner Programs
Georgia Tech has partnered with additional institutions to develop
transfer articulation programs. Currently, a student may complete
two years of required courses at Georgia Perimeter College in
Atlanta, Miami Dade College in Florida, or Montgomery College
in Maryland and with an acceptable GPA, complete the remaining
work toward a degree at Tech.
For more information, visit www.transfer.gatech.edu or contact
either college or the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admission.
POLICY ON TRANSFER
ADMISSION
All qualified persons are equally welcome to seek transfer
admission to the Georgia Institute of Technology, and all
persons may apply for and accept admission confident
that the policy and regular practice of the Institute will not
discriminate against them on the basis of race, religion,
sex, or national origin.
Projections of the number of transfer students to be
admitted and enrolled in any year will be determined (a) by
the capacity of the Institute and (b) by approved enrollment
levels. If the number of qualified applicants for admission
exceeds the number of applicants who can be admitted
and enrolled, those to be offered admission will be selected
on the basis of (a) the Institute’s judgment of the applicant’s
relative qualifications for satisfactory performance in
the Institute and (b) recognition of the Institute’s special
responsibilities to the residents of Georgia.
The policy of competitive admissions, set forth above,
will not prevent the admission of selected applicants
who give evidence of possessing special talents for the
Institute’s programs requiring such talents.
The admission of undergraduate students to pursue
programs leading to a baccalaureate degree shall be the
responsibility of the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
That office will apply policies and procedures that are
approved by the Office of the President and the Board of
Regents of the University System of Georgia. Preference
for admission will be given to qualified residents of the
state of Georgia.
The criteria used in determining each transfer applicant’s
qualifications for admission will include satisfactory evidence
of scholastic promise based upon the applicant’s previous
academic transfer record. Under special circumstances,
applicants may be admitted with the approval of the Institute
Admission Appeals Committee appointed by the president
of the Institute. Appeals concerning individual admission
decisions shall be addressed to the director of the Office of
Undergraduate Admission.

teaching at tech
“The students are my favorite thing about teaching at Tech.
The students here are amazing – very clever, hard working,
and interested. I also appreciate the small class sizes. I’m
from a place where the class sizes ranged from 100 on up,
so it was impossible to get to know all the students. Here,
I can interact with everyone and they can, hopefully, feel
more comfortable to ask questions and participate in class.”
knowing changes everything
“‘Knowing Changes Everything’
is a terrific way to describe
academia. Acquiring
knowledge is an ongoing
process. Learning new things
is my favorite part of the job.
Knowledge imbues power and
confidence. It’s not quantifiable. There is always someone
who knows more or less than
you, but you have the power to
keep improving yourself. I love
seeing students advance their
own knowledge to the point
where they can leave here armed with the expertise they
need to manage their own laboratories. It’s exciting to be
a part of that process.”
