Tech offers numerous avenues for campus involvement through student organizations and clubs focused on fine arts, publications and media, and sports. Additional options include numerous fraternities and sororities, religious organizations, community service organizations, cultural and diversity groups, national or departmental honor societies, and networking groups, like Savannah’s Alumni Mentor Program. And if the four-hundred-plus student activities don’t fit your needs, there is always the chance to start a brand new organization! See www.involvement.gatech.edu. 7 w w w . g a t e c h . e d u Georgia Tech 7 transfer apPlicant requirements requirements for transfer admission Transfer admission to Georgia Tech is selective as more applications from qualified students are received than can be accommodated. All transfer applicants must meet the following minimum requirements by completing the specific courses, total number of credit hours, and minimum grade point average (GPA), all at another institution, in order to be considered for possible admission to Georgia Tech. Successful candidates for admission will be selected from the pool of applicants that meet or exceed these requirements, which vary by major. A transfer applicant must apply for one specific major and will be evaluated based on the criteria for that major. These requirements are subject to change; please visit www.transfer. gatech.edu for the most up-to-date information. Overall Criteria • A minimum of thirty semester or forty-five quarter hours that are transferable to Georgia Tech. • All of the specifically required courses on the Course Requirements by Major chart for the prospective major. • The minimum GPA for the prospective major, which applies to both the overall GPA and the GPA of the student’s math and science courses, as outlined on this page. Transferable Hours The minimum number of transferable hours must include the required courses for the prospective major. There is no maximum number of hours that a student may transfer; however, all degreeseeking students must complete at least the last thirty-six hours of the degree at Georgia Tech. Required Courses None of the required courses may be taken at Georgia Tech as they are actual prerequisites for admission consideration. They must be completed at another institution before an admission decision can be made. These courses must be equivalent to the corresponding Georgia Tech courses as described on the Course Requirements by Major chart and all courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher in order to fulfill the requirements. The schedule for completion of required courses is described in the Important Deadlines section on this page. Minimum GPA Based on the U.S. 4.0 GPA system, the minimum GPA requirement for most majors is 2.7 for Georgia residents, 3.0 for non-Georgia U.S. residents, and 3.5 for international students. Because admission to the Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programs is highly competitive, applicants to these programs must have a GPA of at least 3.0 for Georgia residents, 3.5 for non-Georgia U.S. residents, and 3.8 for international students. Further, all applicants must be in good standing during the last term of enrollment at their prior institutions. Application Deadlines Transfer applicants may apply for any of the three semester terms (Fall, Spring, or Summer) if all minimum admission requirements are completed by the document deadline for that term. The completed transfer application must be submitted by the application deadline, and all other required documents must be submitted by the document deadline. It is in the best interest of all students to submit as much of the required documentation as early as possible, saving only the final transcript or evaluation for the document deadline. Transfer of Academic Credit Georgia Tech generally grants credit for any course, from an accredited college or university, that corresponds to a course in our curriculum in content and credit value when the student has achieved a C or higher. For a list of schools and courses that have already been evaluated by Georgia Tech, see the Transfer Equivalencies table at https://oscar.gatech.edu. To have coursework from non-U.S. colleges and universities reviewed for potential transfer credit, a Course-by-Course with GPA Evaluation from a professional foreign credential evaluator along with detailed course descriptions must be submitted so that the various academic departments at Georgia Tech can determine whether the coursework corresponds to our curriculum in content and credit value. (See How to Apply for Transfer Admission, Step 4, on page 12 for information on how to obtain a Course-by-Course with GPA Evaluation.) important deadlines term Fall (Atlanta Campus) Fall (Savannah Campus) Spring (Both Campuses) Summer (Both Campuses) application deadline February 1 February 1** October 1 February 1 document deadline* July 1 July 1 October 1 February 1 *The document deadline refers to the date by which ALL required courses (see Course Requirements by Major chart) must be completed and the official documentation of such submitted. Second Undergraduate Degree students A second undergraduate degree student is someone who has completed a bachelor’s degree from another accredited institution and wishes to enroll at Georgia Tech to obtain a second undergraduate degree in a different major or field of study. In order to be accepted for enrollment, students must have completed all of the minimum requirements as indicated for regular transfer applicants, including the specific courses on the Course Requirements by Major chart and the minimum GPA (see page 8). Other Partner Programs Georgia Tech has partnered with additional institutions to develop transfer articulation programs. Currently, a student may complete two years of required courses at Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta, Miami Dade College in Florida, or Montgomery College in Maryland and with an acceptable GPA, complete the remaining work toward a degree at Tech. For more information, visit www.transfer.gatech.edu or contact either college or the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admission. POLICY ON TRANSFER ADMISSION All qualified persons are equally welcome to seek transfer admission to the Georgia Institute of Technology, and all persons may apply for and accept admission confident that the policy and regular practice of the Institute will not discriminate against them on the basis of race, religion, sex, or national origin. Projections of the number of transfer students to be admitted and enrolled in any year will be determined (a) by the capacity of the Institute and (b) by approved enrollment levels. If the number of qualified applicants for admission exceeds the number of applicants who can be admitted and enrolled, those to be offered admission will be selected on the basis of (a) the Institute’s judgment of the applicant’s relative qualifications for satisfactory performance in the Institute and (b) recognition of the Institute’s special responsibilities to the residents of Georgia. The policy of competitive admissions, set forth above, will not prevent the admission of selected applicants who give evidence of possessing special talents for the Institute’s programs requiring such talents. The admission of undergraduate students to pursue programs leading to a baccalaureate degree shall be the responsibility of the Office of Undergraduate Admission. That office will apply policies and procedures that are approved by the Office of the President and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Preference for admission will be given to qualified residents of the state of Georgia. The criteria used in determining each transfer applicant’s qualifications for admission will include satisfactory evidence of scholastic promise based upon the applicant’s previous academic transfer record. Under special circumstances, applicants may be admitted with the approval of the Institute Admission Appeals Committee appointed by the president of the Institute. Appeals concerning individual admission decisions shall be addressed to the director of the Office of Undergraduate Admission. w w w . g a t e c h . e d u Georgia Tech 11 Audrey Duarte Assistant professor of psychology School of psychology education: Phd, neurobiology university of california at berkeley campus: atlanta Research Interests: Memory and Aging, Cognitive Neuroscience, Dementia Affiliations: Society for Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience Society, Sigma Xi, Phi Sigma Honor Society teaching at tech “The students are my favorite thing about teaching at Tech. The students here are amazing – very clever, hard working, and interested. I also appreciate the small class sizes. I’m from a place where the class sizes ranged from 100 on up, so it was impossible to get to know all the students. Here, I can interact with everyone and they can, hopefully, feel more comfortable to ask questions and participate in class.” knowing changes everything “‘Knowing Changes Everything’ is a terrific way to describe academia. Acquiring knowledge is an ongoing process. Learning new things is my favorite part of the job. Knowledge imbues power and confidence. It’s not quantifiable. There is always someone who knows more or less than you, but you have the power to keep improving yourself. I love seeing students advance their own knowledge to the point where they can leave here armed with the expertise they need to manage their own laboratories. It’s exciting to be a part of that process.” how to apply for transfer admission All application materials must be mailed to the following address, regardless of Atlanta or Savannah campus preference: Office of Undergraduate Admission Georgia Institute of Technology Atlanta, Georgia 30332-0320 1.
