Houstonians racing to finish last minute
Christmas shopping
Houston shoppers are racing to finish holiday shopping, just before the Christmas deadline. KHOU
HOUSTON – It's Christmas Eve and children in Houston are getting ready for the big night.
"Santa's coming down the chimney," said a very excited 6-year-old Audrianna Pittman.
And 8-year-old Emily Fultz is planning what treats she'll leave out.
As kids get ready for Santa, adults braved the stores at Memorial City Mall for any final
Christmas items.
"This is not my thing," said shopper Kevin Young. "There are a lot of people around here. I need
to get out of here."
"It is busy today; I was really surprised," said shopper Grace Fultz.
She's looking for, "stocking stuffers and stuff for my oldest girl. They're hard to shop for when
they're 12."
There are several stores staying open late this Christmas Eve: most Walmarts are open until 8
p.m., most Targets and CVS stores are open until 10 p.m. and several Walgreens locations will
stay open until midnight.
Of course toys are in high demand, and the shelves at Toys R Us are proof of that, as many
were bare.
Jewelry is also a popular item.

"You can't go wrong with diamond," said Sara from Sara Jewelers. "Everybody's doing last
minute shopping right now and it's been very busy."
It took four stores before Young found the purple Converse sneakers that his daughter wants.
"I finally went into Journeys and they had it," Young said. "Now if I could just get a wine and
cheese for my wife I could get out of this place."
But 7-year-old Harry Street, who's visiting from London, had fun shopping in Houston.
"It's a very amazing here, just absolutely amazing," Street said.
Although Street is on vacation, he's not worried about Santa finding him because he let Santa
know with a letter.
"He did remember. He read the letter from me saying he was listening and he did have time to
read it," Street said.
As kids look forward to the morning, so do adults, when the shopping will be done and they can
concentrate on family.
"Being together and celebrating the birth of Jesus, let's not forget that," said Andrew Street. "'It
is really about family and being together."
