RULES Copernicus Masters GEO Illustration Challenge 2015 “Transcending Boarders – and changing the Earth’s image” Content of Terms as of 10. August 2015 ORGANISER OF THE COPERNICUS MASTERS GEO ILLUSTRATION CHALLENGE The Copernicus Masters GEO Illustration Challenge (“the Challenge”) is organised by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (“the Organiser”) in cooperation with GEO magazine (“GEO”), in the framework of the Copernicus Master competition initiated by the European Space Agency (“ESA”). OBJECTIVE OF THE CHALLENGE The Challenge seeks to activate creative potentials for the use of satellite images in order to enhance the public awareness for the capabilities of Earth observation. The GEO Illustration Challenge asks participants to process and illustrate ESA satellite images according to the competition topic “Transcending Boarders” in vivid, artistic ways. IMAGE ACCESS All entries need to be based on satellite imagery made available via the dedicated link http://www.esa.int/spaceinimages/Sets/Earth_observation_image_of_the_week) on the Copernicus Masters website http://geo.copernicus-masters.com (“Authorised Satellite Images”). Participants may add other non-satellite images. Apart from the rights to the Authorised Satellite Images all rights to the images used for the entry need to be possessed by the participant. (Please refer to section RIGHTS below). Please note: you need to save the original ESA satellite image, either as image file or the dedicated web link to the image, and upload or indicate it upon submitting your entry. RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE Participation in the GEO Challenge is open to any individual of legal adult age. Entries will be accepted from anywhere in the world. CHALLENGE AND PRIZES The description of the GEO Illustration Challenge in the Copernicus Masters 2015 is available at http://geo.copernicus-masters.com. It includes the respective prizes to be awarded in the Challenge the evaluation criteria and evaluation process that will be applied in selecting the winning contribution(s). SUBMISSION PERIOD Interested participants are requested to submit their entries electronically between 15 April 2015 and 10:00 on 20 July 2015 (please refer to the PROCEDURE described below). PROCEDURE The Challenge will be organised and carried out exclusively in English. Entrants will be required to submit their entry (“Work”) via an online form at http://geo.copernicus-masters.com. Participants will be asked to upload their Work in high resolution (300 dpi, accepted formats: tiff, uncompressed jpg) including title and a detailed description as well as the original satellite image(s), that was/were processed for the Work. Furthermore, in entering the competition, participants will be asked to provide contact details that will enable the Organiser to inform them of all matters related to the GEO Illustration Challenge. The number of entries per participant is limited to a maximum of three different entries. The Organiser reserves the right to refuse publication to any entrant or submission on ethical grounds.Fehler! Textmarke nicht definiert. All complete Works will be evaluated by an expert panel nominated by GEO, which will also select the winner of the Challenge. In addition, the expert panel will nominate 20 15 entries, that will be published on www.geo.de for public voting (the result of the public voting will have no effect on the experts decision regarding the winner of the Challenge). During the GEO Challenge, the Organiser may contact the participants to assist and support their submissions. CONFIDENTIALITY By participating in the GEO Challenge, participants acknowledge that their submissions will be made public along with the names in case their submission is part of the Top 20 15 selection. RIGHTS The Organiser solely provides the links to the satellite image databases of the Data Providers, but does not guarantee for the uninterrupted availability of the respective databases and shall assume no liability for the use of the images. The participant is responsible to indicate all sources of the used satellite images and to adhere to the respective terms of use of the image provider to be accepted upon provision of the respective image. For any images, which are used in addition to the Authorised Satellite Images, the participant needs to own the rights of use. By participating in the GEO Challenge, each participant acknowledges that the Organiser, GEO, and ESA may use all publicly displayed text, PDFs, links, and images (incl. photos taken of the winner at the awards ceremony) in advertising and other marketing efforts (e.g. printed calendar) concerning the GEO Challenge or otherwise in any medium now known or hereafter devised (including the internet or other interactive networks) at any place within the licence period without further compensation and agrees to waive his/her rights with respect to such publicity and advertising. With regard to the afore-mentioned the participant, by submitting the Work, particularly grants to the Organiser, and Organiser accepts, the exclusive irrevocable transferable right throughout the world and for the Licence Period defined below to publish, copy, reproduce, distribute, display, print, cut the Work (or parts thereof), to make the Work (or parts thereof) available in the internet, to broadcast the Work (or parts thereof), and to use the Work (or parts thereof) in connection with the Copernicus Masters and the Challenge. License Period: If participant’s entry is not selected among the Top 20 15, the License Period ends on 10 August 2015. If participant’s entry is selected among the Top 20 15, the License Period ends on 31 December 2016. The participant acknowledges that the Organiser is not obliged to make use of the rights granted by the participant. WARRANTY The participant by submitting the Work warrants and represents that the participant is the sole and exclusive unencumbered beneficial owner with full title guarantee of the Work and is fully entitled to grant the said rights and neither the Work nor the use thereof by the Organiser will infringe any rights of any third party (including rights of privacy or publicity or any rights of “droit moral”). This does not apply to the Authorised Satellite Images used by the participant to create the Work. Should any third-party rights nonetheless come to light, participants further affirm that the Organiser, GEO and/or its publisher, the Initiators and the Supporters shall not be held liable for any amount of resulting damages/claims. The Organiser, GEO and/or its publisher, the Initiators and the Supporters shall thus be exempt from any third-party claims. MISCELLANEOUS The decisions made concerning the competition’s awards shall not be subject to dispute in a court of law. The decisions rendered by the experts involved in the Challenge shall be final and binding for all participants in all aspects of the competition. Participants shall have no right to be provided with any justification for the experts’ decisions. The Organiser reserves the right to modify the present terms, including any of the deadlines set forth herein, at any time. Participation in this competition shall be subject to German law.
