Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics
Salary:
Level B $76,921 - $90,680 pa
Level C $93,428 - $107,187 pa
This position commences in 2010 with a negotiable start date.
The successful applicant for this position should have a higher degree in Applied Mathematics
or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), with a demonstrated record of research and
publication in an area of applied mathematics. Other essential requirements are: a
demonstrated ability to teach both introductory and specialist Mathematics courses at
undergraduate level; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to
work positively and cooperatively in a teaching and research environment; knowledge and
understanding of equity and diversity principles; knowledge of and commitment to
occupational health and safety responsibilities and a familiarity with scientific numerical
packages such as MATLAB.
The Applied Mathematics group teaches Mathematics mainly to undergraduate students as
well as providing supervision for research degrees. At the undergraduate level, teaching is
directed largely to students studying Science and Engineering degrees. Current research
areas in the group include combustion and bushfire modelling, dynamical systems, nonlinear
optics, dissipative solitons and industrial process modelling. However, applicants with an
interest in any area of applied mathematics would be equally welcome.
