Topic: Every day Objectives: - Students can correctly use the simple present tense. Especially, students will be able to add “s” or “es” to the verbs when using third personal singular pronouns “he”, “she” or “it”. Prior knowledge: - Some simple actions, e.g. having a shower, doing homework, getting up early etc. Teaching materials: Flash cards, action cards, music, a ball and Longman Workbook Procedures: Content Time stages 8 min Presentation Teaching procedures 1 Teacher presents the use of simple present tense and the word ‘every day” using “I”. (E.g. I do homework every day.) 2 Teacher presents the uses of simple present tense and the word “every day” using “he” or “she”. (E.g. He does homework every day.) 3 Teacher clearly presents the difference between the above two. 4 Teacher seeks choral response from the students. 5 Teacher uses more examples to illustrate the above. -1- Aims Aids To give students an idea of -Flash cards the “I” presentation of simple present tense. To give students an idea of the “he” or “she” presentation of simple present tense. To clarify students’ concepts or correct their common mistakes. To keep students’ attention. To give students more examples so that the students will be more familiar with the use of the simple present tense. 10 min Practice 1 Teacher gives clear instructions and a demonstration about the activity. (The theme of the activity is to guess what he or she does every day.) 2. Teacher asks one student to come out and draw a card. The student is requested to act out the action written on the card. (E.g. sweeping the floor) 3 The rest of the students are requested to guess what that particular student does every day. Students are required to tell in the following way: E.g. He sweeps the floor every day. 4 Students chorally repeat the sentence pattern. 5 There will be some more rounds of the above. 10 min Consolidation 1 Teacher gives clear instructions about the activity 2 Teacher gives the ball to one of the students and then plays the music and when the music stops, the student who holds the ball is expected to stand up and tell the whole class what he or she does every day, say, “I sweep the floor every day.”. 3 The rest of the students are required to tell what that particular student does every day in the following way: He sweeps the floor every day. 4.
