Institutional Scholarships

Chancellor’s Scholarship

• Tuition, fees for up to 18 credit hours per semester, room and board allowance for a maximum of eight semesters of continuous enrollment. Out-of-state tuition is waived.

• Requires 30 ACT composite, rank in top 10% of graduating class with 3.00 high school GPA, or selection as a National Merit or Achievement finalist.

• Renewal criteria: First-time freshmen must complete at least 12 hours the first semester and at least 15 hours in the second semester. After the freshman year at least 15 hours must be completed each semester. A 3.00 grade point average is required.

• Awarded when student applies for admission and scholarship; and ACT scores, class rank and high school GPA are verified.

University Scholarship

Valedictorian Scholarship

• Tuition for up to 15 hours per semester for a maximum of eight semesters of continuous enrollment. Out-of-state tuition is waived.

• Requires 21 ACT composite (minimum 19 English, minimum 19 math) and 3.00 high school GPA and proof of valedictorian status.

• Renewal criteria: First-time freshmen must complete at least 12 hours the first semester and at least 15 hours in the second semester. After the freshman year at least 15 hours must be completed each semester. A 3.00 grade point average is required.

• Awarded when student applies for admission and scholarship; and ACT scores, class rank and high school GPA are verified.

Out-of-State Tuition Waiver

• Out-of-state tuition is waived for residents of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri. UA board policy permits an out-of-state waiver for states other than a contiguous state when a student receives an institutional, performance, or athletic scholarship in an amount equal to tuition for a minimum of 12 hours in the fall and spring terms.

Academic Unit and Privately Funded Scholarships

Community College Transfer Scholarship

• Tuition for up to 15 credit hours per semester for a maximum of four semesters of continuous enrollment, excluding summer terms. Out-of-state tuition waived.

• Eligibility Requirements: Students whose college attendance is initially and only at an accredited community college and results in completion of at least 60 transferrable hours at the 1000-level or above with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.

• May be renewed for a maximum of three additional semesters with completion of a minimum of12 hours of college-level work each semester and minimum 3.00 GPA following

27 hours of college-level work in an academic year.

• Admission and scholarship application required, and a final transcript for evaluation of credits.

* An academic year includes the Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II terms. Institutional scholarship funds are NOT available for summer terms. Priority deadline is March 1. Refer to the UAM catalog or the Office of Admissions for details.

• Additional scholarship criteria may apply to both institutional and foundation awards. Students should meet scholarship eligibility requirements by March 1 for review. However, after March 1, consideration for scholarship awards will be based upon availability of funds. Bankston Hall (co-ed / suite-style)

Newly renovated, Bankston Hall is a three-story suite-style residence hall housing both male and female students. Amenities include an open lobby, game room, study rooms, spacious TV lounge, and a laundry facility on each floor. Each suite consists of two doubleoccupancy rooms divided by a private bathroom. All rooms are furnished with new loft furniture; including loft beds, study tables with steel stack chairs, three-drawer chests, onedrawer night stands with locking door, and free-standing wardrobes. No private rooms are available. All rooms are double-occupancy.

Maxwell Hall (co-ed / suite-style)

Maxwell Hall is a two-story suite-style residence hall that houses both male and female students. Amenities include a laundry facility, vending area, a TV lounge, and a game lounge which includes table tennis, air hockey, and foosball games. Each suite consists of two double-occupancy rooms divided by a private bathroom. All rooms are furnished with new loft furniture; including loft beds, study tables with steel stack chairs, three-drawer chests, one-drawer night stands with locking door, and access to private closet space.

No private rooms are available. All rooms are double-occupancy.

Royer Hall (male / community)

Royer Hall is a three-story all-male community-style residence hall. Amenities include a study lounge, spacious lobby, a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator, vending area, and laundry facility. All rooms are furnished with twin-size beds, study table with drawers and with steel stack chairs, built in four-drawer chests, and access to private closet space and extra storage. Private rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Horsfall Hall (female / community)

Horsfall is a thre-story all-female community-style residence hall. Amenities include a grand lobby, study rooms, vending area, community bathrooms on each floor, laundry facility, and exercise and game area. All rooms are furnished with new loft furniture; including loft beds, study tables with steel stack chairs, three-drawer chests, one-drawer night stands with locking door, and access to private closet space. Private rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

University Apartments

The University Apartments provide students with a comfortable living transition from living in the residence halls to independent living, and consist of two apartment buildings.

Each apartment includes a living room, two bedrooms, one bath, and a kitchenette. Each apartment is fully furnished with a stove, refrigerator, couch, chair, coffee table, and side table. Each resident’s bedroom is furnished with a bed, study table with chair, a threedrawer chest, a one-drawer night stand and closet. An outside storage area is provided for each apartment. Laundry facilities and vending machines are located on the first floor of each building. Amenities included are utilities, basic cable, and internet access. Each bedroom provides separate internet, phone and cable connections in addition to a cable connection in the living room. Apartments are rented year around and are filled on a firstcome, first-served basis.

Roommate Preferences:

Students may request a specific individual as the preferred roommate when they complete their housing registration. Students wishing to be roommates are encouraged to submit their applications at the same time. Roommate requests are not guaranteed but every effort will be made to honor a request.

Residence Hall Meal Plan Options

Participation in a meal plan is required for all students residing in University Housing. Please select one of the following meal plans. Individuals who do not complete this section will automatically be charged for a 7-Day/19-Meal Plan. Apartment residents may choose from any of the options.

Please carefully read the following statement prior to signing, for this is a binding contract:

Residency Policy: Students (enrolled in 12 hours or more) who are LESS than 21 years of age (as of the first day of class each academic term) and have completed less than 24 credit hours will be required to live on campus for the academic year. Exemptions to the residency policy are available to students meeting certain criteria.

I make this application with the understanding that my Housing/Food Service Contract will be for the period of an academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters) unless I am applying for the Spring Semester or Summer I or II. I agree that if I move out of the halls before the end of the spring semester (voluntarily or involuntarily), I will be responsible for meal charges incurred and I will forfeit my deposit and rent for the current semester. I agree that in the event that I move out prior to the fulfillment of this contract I shall be obligated to pay a lease cancellation fee of $400. I agree that if I withdraw from school or am administratively withdrawn, I shall vacate my residence hall room within 24 hours of my withdrawal. I agree that my housing deposit acts as both a security and a damage deposit and that I may only cancel this application by contacting the Residence Life Office, in writing, before August 1 (if the application is for the academic year) or December 22 (if the application is for the spring semester only) and on the first day of classes for Summer I and II. I understand that by canceling my housing contract I forfeit my housing deposit. Damage deposits may be forfeited if damages are incurred. I acknowledge I may be charged for any damages that exceed the amount of the deposit.

Type: UAM is a four-year liberal arts university founded in 1909.

UAM joined the University of Arkansas System in 1971.
