DEVELOPMENT (L.E.A.D)
LEAD, a division of the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), understands the needs of a modern-day law practice. A variety of
methods to access high-quality learning activities are offered to attorneys, candidate attorneys and support staff. These include a
practical law school and a range of courses, certificate and diploma programmes, seminars and workshops which are conducted at
training centres, online or via distance learning.
NATURE OF STUDY
The high-quality course uses an e-learning platform
designed to make learning more accessible and interactive.
There are four study modules and the curriculum comprises
LEAD and UNISA tutorial letters, assignments, tutorials
with attorneys and skills assessments. In addition, each
student must do approximately 130 hours of compulsory
training at one of the existing School centres (day or night,
whichever is more appropriate). The centres are: Pretoria;
Johannesburg; Cape Town; Polokwane; Bloemfontein;

To be considered for the course, applicants must submit the following documents with their application forms:

A certified copy of the applicant’s Identity Document.
•
A complete academic record reflecting the applicant’s performance during final and pre-final years of BProc or LLB study.
•
A certified copy of the applicant’s degree or an original letter from the Dean of the University concerned stating that the student can complete his/her degree in the current year.
•
Details of the applicant’s employer/previous employer, duration of employment and the type of work done (including Legal Aid work).
•
A statement by the applicant setting out in less than 100 words on the subject “My perception of a competent attorney”.
TUITION FEE
PAYMENT OF THE FEES
R9 650 (VAT included).
Should you wish to pay a deposit and then pay instalments over the year of the course, this must be arranged and agreed to by LEAD before commencement of
the course. Subject to availability of funds, the LSSA makes interest-free loans available in deserving cases. The application form is available from the relevant
School director after selection BUT prior to the commencement date.
