Students who have already proved their abilities in Psychology within an undergraduate
Degree and wish to step up to the next level will be challenged by this qualification. This
post-graduate Degree allows students to study aspects introduced in undergraduate
Psychology in more detail as well as introducing new areas of Psychology study.
Who is this Degree aimed at?
This post-graduate Degree is for students intending to pursue a career in Counseling
Psychology. If you wish to apply for Masters Studies in Clinical Psychology then this is the
Degree that you need to study.
What entry requirements will I need to study this Degree?
A Bachelors Degree with a third year/major in Psychology. Candidates must have completed
the following compulsory modules in their UNISA undergraduate Degree in order for them to
register for Degree of Honours Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at UNISA:
PYC101 or 1501, PYC102 or 1502
PYC201 or 2601, PYC202 or 2602, (or PYC203 or 2603), RSC201 or 2601
PYC301 or 3701, PYC302 or 3702, PYC303 or 3703, PYC304 or 3704, PYC305 or 3705
A student must have obtained an average of 60% for the third year Psychology modules.
Students who did an undergraduate Degree at another university must have done Research
Methodology and Psychopathology in their degree to be considered for post-graduate
studies at UNISA.
If you are a foreign student, you must ensure that you have a valid study permit issued in the
name of The Independent Institute of Education (IIE) that covers the duration of the
qualification.
Important information about UNISA that you need to know...
As a new student you need to apply to UNISA within the set application dates. UNISA is
open for application in March / April and then again in September / October (exact dates are
still to be confirmed). You also need to register with UNISA within the set registration dates.
Application and registration can be done on-line through the UNISA website UNISA does not
allow any late applications or registrations. Application and registration fees at UNISA are
payable by you the student. The UNISA website address is follows - http://www.unisa.ac.za.
In order to be registered at UNISA, students who completed a Bachelors Degree with
Psychology 3 at any other university must request that university to supply UNISA with the
following information:
A complete academic record (symbols are not sufficient)
 Proof that a Degree has been completed
 Proof that Psychology 3 has been completed
 Syllabuses of Psychology 1, 2 and 3
 A letter of good conduct
UNISA will then supply you with tutorial letters. These letters are one of the ways that your
lecturers at UNISA communicate with you.
