Copying another student's vocabulary work or giving your vocabulary work to another student to copy is considered cheating. Students caught cheating will be referred to the Dean of Students and will receive a score of 0 in Progress Book until the issue is resolved by the Academic Dishonesty Committee. Name _________________________________________________________ Period __________ STUDY: One way to study for vocabulary quizzes is by going to Quizlet.com. Mrs. Hartman has already entered all of your words and definitions. You merely need to go to the website, search for her lists, and then use the website. You can print ready-made flashcards, play games, and take practice tests on the website. Directions for using Quizlet: 1. Go to www.quizlet.com. This website is free. You can use it with or without an account. If you wish to save or combine lists, you will want to create an account. 2. In the search box, type: mrshartman (type it EXACTLY like that – no spaces or punctuation) 3. The lists of words will appear under the heading "Watkins CP 9." Find the correct unit and click on it. Both CP & Honors classes will use these lists. 4. In the middle of the screen, choose to Study, Play Games, or Print Flashcards. Quizlet apps also exist so that you can study and play games on your phone, tablet, etc. The Apple app is actually called Quizlet. On a Droid device, the app is called Flashcard+. HONORS 9 VOCABULARY HOMEWORK: • All four vocabulary homework assignments are considered formative assignments and will have a weight of 0% in Progress Book. • All homework assignments will be graded for correctness and entered into Progress Book with a score out of 10 points. • Late homework assignments will be entered into Progress Book as 0 points. • Students who frequently do not complete assignments in a timely manner will be assigned Academic Intervention Sessions and will receive phone calls home. HONORS 9 QUIZ: Vocabulary quizzes are out of 45 points. Quizzes will cover a total of 15 words. Ten words will be randomly selected from the current list of words. Five words will be randomly selected from ANY old list from the school year. This means that you must study ALL of your words ALL year! The quiz will contain two parts. In part one, you must spell each of the 15 words correctly (1 point each). For part two, you will be given a writing topic. You will have 30 minutes in which to create a short narrative on the topic and include all 15 words with a context clue. Each word that is used as the correct part of speech and contains a clear context clue that demonstrates your knowledge of the definition will earn 2 points. Students who wish to retake a vocabulary quiz to receive a higher score may do so if they turn in all homework assignments on time and receive the following scores: 1. 2. 3. 4. Book work – Choosing Right Word, Synonyms, Antonyms = score of 9/10 or higher. Book work – Completing the Sentence, Vocab in Context = score of 9/10 or higher. Worksheet – Matching & Word Shapes = score of 10/10. Worksheet – Crossword = score of 10/10. OR 1. Student completes all vocabulary assignments in an Academic Intervention Session with the teacher and receives the scores listed above on the assignments. Assignments must be completed before the vocabulary quiz is given. Quiz retakes will be given after school on the Tuesday after the original quiz. (Students will be notified in advance if the retakes need to be given after school on a different day that week.)
