APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS 2014
Master’s Programme
Entrepreneurship and Business Design
April admission round 2014
Updated: October 2013
AN INVITATION TO APPLY
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship has a tradition of being an environment where talented individuals
come together to actively engage in forming a better future through new innovations, new companies, better
companies, and new and better product and services.
In order to create this environment we have designed an admissions process where we do not only evaluate
formal academic merits, but also try to see the potential in the individual. Additionally, we also try to see how
these individuals complement each other in order to have a good mix of students for the class as a whole.
Since we focus on team-based entrepreneurship we would like a student body consisting of different
educational backgrounds, different personalities, and different life experiences. Our experience and track
record clearly show that bringing together students that are willing to learn and work hard can accomplish
great things together.
The document you have in front of you describes the admissions process we have designed for our
programme and it is intended to help you with your application. The process is designed based on our
fifteen years of operating the School of Entrepreneurship, taking into consideration our aim to admit the most
suitable students and at the same time abide by rules and regulations. We want a process that is fair and
where all candidates have an equal chance to demonstrate their capabilities and ambitions.
We hope you will take the time and effort to put together an application demonstrating your capabilities and
thus convincing us to admit you to the programme. If you succeed and are offered a spot in the end, we
guarantee you two great years of learning, and an experience of a life-time.
We wish you the best of luck with your application!

THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS 2014
The admissions process contains several steps where different parties are engaged in the different stages. At
some points it will be necessary for us to contact you and therefore it is important that the contact information
(e-mail address and phone number) you submit in your formal application at antagning.se is updated and
correct. On the following pages you will find descriptions of the main stages of the admissions process to our
Master’s Programme.
In the image below there is a graphic overview of the process. As you can see the processes and evaluations
sometimes take place simultaneously in order for us to finalize the process in due time. As a consequence,
moving forward in the extended application process does not necessarily mean you have passed the
evaluation in the Eligibility step in the formal application process. E.g. you might be deemed ineligible at a
later stage due to failure to non-submission of requested documents.
THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS 2014
1. You submit your application, including relevant documents,
at antagning.se.

RESPONSE
The final decision is
made and a number
of applicants are
offered a spot at the
programme*.
*Please note that you still
need to have your formal
application approved by
the central admissions
office at Chalmers
STEP1: ELIGIBILITY
(formal application process)
The first step of the process is to make sure you meet the formal requirements of the programme concerning
educational background and obtained academic credits. This is to verify that you will be able to follow the
education, but also that you will be able to receive a formal degree when you graduate and complete the
education.
This part of the application must be submitted using the Swedish National on-line application system,
www.antagning.se and must be submitted no later than April 1, 2014. Please make sure you submit all
documents requested by Chalmers central admissions office, since failure to do so might prevent you from
being part of the process.
You are also strongly advised to make sure that the e-mail address you provide in the system is one
that you use since our main means of communication is via e-mail!
Your eligibility is evaluated centrally by the admissions office at Chalmers University of Technology, and it is
also they who decide which formal documentation you need to submit and when it is to be submitted. If you
do not understand what documentation they are asking for, or do not think you will be able to provide the
documents in time you must communicate with the admissions office.
STEP 2: SUITABILITY
(extended application process)
Just making sure you meet the formal eligibility is not enough. We at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship
would like to know more about you, what drives you, what your plans are, etc. For this reason, we have an
extended application process, where we will ask you to provide us with information that is not found in the
formal application. With this material we will have a better chance of seeing your unique potential and how
you could fit into our education.
As previously explained, what we are looking for are candidates that have a solid base to develop from, and
who can distinguish themselves in one or several areas. In other words, we want students who are
contributing to the mix of capabilities and personalities that are necessary within team-based
entrepreneurship and at the same time are able to participate in a high pace academic education.
No later than April 2, you will receive an e-mail from us with the details how to submit information for
this Suitability evaluation. However, we do recommend you start preparing yourself as soon as possible. At
the end of this document you will therefore find everything we will ask for in this second step.
STEP 3: CLOSING THE DEAL
(extended application process)
Mainly based on written essay questions but also a voluntary video presentation a selected number of
candidates will proceed to an interview with members of the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship’s
admissions committee. The purpose of the interview is to ask some clarifying questions and to straighten out
question marks that might have occurred prior in the process. Applicants that do not proceed to an
interview will not be able to claim a spot at the programme.
After the interviews the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship’s admissions committee will make their
final decision which applicants they would like to admit to the programme.
The interviews will take place on the 5th, 6th and 7th of May 2014. Please avoid making any other
appointments during this period. If you are invited to an interview you will receive information regarding exact
time and place approximately one week prior to the interview.
STEP 4: FINAL DECISION
(extended application process)
When the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship’s admissions committee has made its decision all candidates
will be contacted. The ones who are admitted, or who are placed on the waiting list, will be asked if they
accept this spot or not. The School needs to know for planning purposes, and if they should admit any
students from the waiting list or not.
Additionally, you will be reminded that you also have to respond through the antagning.se website in
order to complete the process. If you do not respond in due time you will lose your spot on the
programme.
In conclusion, it is really important that you respond both to the Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship’s
admissions committee and the central administration on antagning.se.

Essay Questions & More
As said before, in order to have a better picture of your suitability for the programme we would like some
more information about you. You need to respond to a set of essay questions outlined below. Additionally, you
may also record a short video presentation of yourself, also described below. We will also ask you to submit
information about previous working experience and other extracurricular activities. Finally, you need to
indicate which track of the programme you prefer, or if you could consider more than one, in which order you
rank your preferences.
Each question has a minimum (250) and maximum (500) number of words so you need to devote some time
and effort into preparing your answers, making sure you provide as much relevant information as possible
while being coherent and to the point in your writing. As you will be using our on-line form you should focus on
the content, not on making the text pretty.
Some friendly advices before you submit your answer:

Have you actually answered the question?

Is your answer clear and understandable?

Have you proof read the answers for any spelling errors or other mistakes?

“Why are you a suitable candidate for this programme and the tracks of your interest? “
As a voluntary task you may also record a short video presentation of yourself, not exceeding one minute.
The video doesn’t have to be complicated or advanced; you can e.g. use your mobile phone to record it. The
purpose of the video is to help us form an even better picture of who you are by adding a dimension to the
essay questions.
