Celebrating 20 Years of Promoting Area Businesses
It’s hard to believe, but it’s true! The BUSINESS EXPO is 20 years old! In
observance and celebration of this special anniversary, the sponsors have committed to
make this the biggest and best EXPO ever. We hope everyone will join us for EXPO as
a vendor and/or attendee on Tuesday, October 12th, from 2:00 until 7:00 pm. Please
notice that the hours have change to better accommodate the business community.
The EXPO is organized to assist in promoting area businesses. This is a great,
affordable venue for showcasing companies’ products and services. Participants come
face-to-face with area business leaders and customers from across the region. And, some
attendees become customers of EXPO vendors long after the EXPO has past. Our office
receives numerous calls for contact information on a vendor someone met at the EXPO.
The special anniversary rates ($185.00 Chamber members, $300.00 non-Chamber
members) include exhibit space, an 8-foot skirted table, two chairs and signage. It is not
too late to register to participate. Contact our Chamber for that information.
And, plan to attend for there is an opportunity to win prizes totaling $1,000.00.
Just pick up a ticket form from one of the Chamber’s offices or register upon entering
Vance Granville Community College’s Civic Center.
As always, sponsors are key to a successful event. We are especially thankful for
this year’s sponsors:
GOLD: Wake Electric Membership Corporation, Franklin Regional Medical Center
SILVER: Granville Health System, The School of Graphic Arts, CenturyLink,
Farm Bureau Insurance, Waste Industries, and the Henderson-Vance County Economic
Development Commission
MEDIA: The Butner-Creedmoor News, The Oxford Public Ledger, The Franklin
Times, The Daily Dispatch, The Warren Record, WLUS 98.3, WIZS 1450.

WELCOME
NEW MEMBERS
A “former” Chamber member is rejoining us — TAYLOR PRINTING AND
OFFICE SUPPLY from Roxboro. Represented by Larry Jackson, Taylor offers
printing, copying and faxing services, as
well as office supplies, furniture and promotional products. The business is open
daily from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Or,
visit their website, www.taylorprinting.
com to view their products and services.
Contact information is: 336.599.2146
phone; 336.597.9311 fax; LJackson@taylor
printingcom. Welcome back as a Granville
Chamber member!
A well-known real estate company is
also a “rejoining” member — MAYO
REALTY in Creedmoor. New owner
Susan Eudy will be delighted to answer
real estate inquiries and show off their listings. She may be reached at 919.529.0510
phone or 919.528.1616 fax. Ruth Keith
Puryear was the former owner of Mayo
Realty and was very active in our community. We are delighted to have Susan and
her staff join and become involved in the
Chamber.
Celebrate with the Chamber at the LEE
NAILS ribbon cutting and grand opening
event on Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at noon. This
nail salon has moved to a new location at
614 Granville Corners (former Shoe Show
store), just down from their first location.
Join them from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
on the 2nd for refreshments, music and gift
giveaways. Phoebe and the staff at Lee
Nails are excited about their newly remodeled studio and encourage visiting them
for that special occasion touch or to
become a “regular” customer. Contact
them at 919.603.0544 or leenails.oxford@
gmail.com.
WE MADE A MISTAKE!
The Chamber is so appreciative of the
support and participation we receive from
members. That is why it is so embarrassing
when we inadvertently omit someone
important. And, we did in last month’s
Brightleaf when we recognized gift bag
contributors for our New Teacher Breakfast. Creedmoor Wellness Center and
Gentle Touch Reflexology gave gift
items, but were not included in the list. We
appreciate their contributions and regret
the error.

Granville Health System makes us
proud — again! In August, members of
Granville Health System’s Senior Leadership and Director teams presented an educational program at the 38th Annual
Meeting and Exposition of the American
Healthcare Radiology Administrators.
This national event was held in Washington, DC.
“More than 1,000 imaging leaders
attended the educational event for radiology
administrators. The national conference
offered sessions addressing a wide range
of management issues including: finance,
human resources, communication and information, operations and assets.
The GHS presentation team included
Sharon Buchanan, Director of Imaging;
Maria Calloway, GHS Chief Nursing
Officer; and L. Lee Isley, GHS Chief
Executive Officer. The group presented
“Breaking Down the Silos: Driving Quality
Care through Positive Change.” The session documented the success GHS’s
imaging department has achieved in
recent years through new leadership and
an improved work culture, while refining
the delivery of quality outpatient and
inpatient care. The session explained the
benefits of technological advancement
made by Granville Health System and the
high level of care achieved through
increased communication and a strong
commitment to customer service.”
CONGRATULATIONS!
Curves of Butner-Creedmoor is supporting the American Cancer Society by
participating in one of its signature fund
raising events — “Making Strides Against
Breast Cancer.” This is the third year that
Curves of Butner-Creedmoor has fielded a
team for the event. Last year, the club
raised $1,000 with a team of 10 walkers.
They are doubling their goal this year.
Their event will “take place at their
location on October 23rd from 12:00 noon
until 4:00 p.m. Curves owner Tabitha
Duke encourages anyone interested in
participating to contact manager Tamara
Webb about the exciting events that are
planned for that day — 528.1414.
They also will be walking Oct. 2nd at
an event at North Hills Mall, so there are
plenty of opportunities to join their team.
Best of luck on this very worthy effort!
Union Bank for their idea and sponsorship of a high school student from each of
Granville County’s three high schools for
the Leadership Granville program. Great
suggestion and thanks for your support!

WATCH FOR NEW
MEMBER ORIENTATION
“Understanding the Chamber and
Maximizing Your Membership”
Administrative Assistant Teresa Haithcock, Chamber South Office, is working
with one of the Chamber’s key volunteers,
Mike McConchie, Action Coach, to plan
a new member orientation. This will be
held in early November for all Chamber
members, but especially for those who are
new to our membership, and for potential
members.
During an early evening, casual event,
we will highlight the benefits of Chamber
membership; how attendance and participation at Chamber events impacts business; the value of networking, etc.
We hope that renewing, brand new and
potential members will be a part of this
exciting evening.
ANY TAKERS?
Just a reminder: Any member who wishes
to receive the monthly newsletter, “The
Brightleaf,” electronically, please let Wanda
know — 693.6125 or granvillechamber@
embarqmail.com. We have some members who are interested in this method of
receipt, rather than hard copy mail.
Also, many businesses, community organizations, government
agencies and individuals will be providing programs and information for class sessions. The Chamber of Commerce is appreciative for this commitment, as well as the involvement of the
Steering Committee members who plan and execute the sessions.
The Steering Committee is composed of volunteers who are
alumni of the Leadership Granville Program. Officers are:
Cecilia Wheeler, Chairman, Vance-Granville Community
College

Human Resources Committee
First Gentleman of
North Carolina Visits
Chamber’s HR Meeting
Bob Eaves, husband of Governor Bev
Purdue, and First Gentleman of North
Carolina, was the guest presenter at the
September Human Resource Committee
meeting, sponsored by Hal Muetzel of
Express Employment Professionals.
Mr. Eaves discussed his program
emphasis, Students@Work, job shadowing for middle school students. This project
began in just one county in North Carolina. Granville County’s school system’s
superintendent, Dr. Tim Farley, had been
contacted by Mr. Eaves’ office to be the
next county to get on board. The Chamber
is thrilled to partner with our school system in such a worthwhile effort. For more
details, contact Stan Winbourne at the
Granville County Schools Administrative
Office — 693.4613.
REVLON will be the site for the committee’s Thursday, October 21st lunch
meeting at Revlon. Milt Thomas will
host the meeting. HR committee members
will receive details in a soon-to-bereleased email.
