Then the right plate reaches to the left and pulls the still plate very slowly to the right. REPEAT with the other plate moving from right to left. The unused paper plate is held behind the back. PART TWO 0:28 – 0:55 Make two small and three big/slower clockwise circles with the right plate. REPEAT with left plate. Then make one big/slower circle with both plates, one moving clockwise and one moving counterclockwise, crossing in front of each other. 0:56 – 1:21 Repeat ONE but wiggle plates as they are pulled across the water. 1:22 – 1:45 Repeat TWO twice but use both plates. PART THREE 1:46 – 2:16 Both plates dip to the center in and out of the water, as if drinking, 4 times to the beat. Hit plates together once when you hear the timpani. Continue alternating between one dip and one timpani hit until 2:10 when you hit the timpani six times. 2:17 – 2:23 Left plate moves from right to left in a big, dramatic arc, showing 8 strong pulses in the music. Right plate does the same when brasses enter. Both plates end next to each other stretched to the left. 2:24 – 2:35 Wiggle both plates next to each other left to right and then right to left. Story/Song in Musicplay for Kindergarten Page 9 ©2015 for classroom use only www.musicplay.ca denisegagne1@gmail.com 1-888-562-4647 Music and Literacy: If a child can sing it, he can read it. Predictable songs are just like predictable story books (Brown Bear) - the emerging reader can track and follow they lyrics as they sing. Music teachers: use the predictable storybooks as material for melodic improvisation. Singing Storybooks: Scholastic has a wealth of books that illustrate song lyrics: Little Rabbit Foo, Down by the Bay etc. Build a library of singing storybooks. Published Big Books are wonderful - but often are expensive. I have Tacky the Penguin and it was close to $20 Make your own Big Class Books I’ve created templates for Big Class Books for many of the songs in Musicplay K-1-2. These will be available at our online site, and are available now in the Musicplay Teachers Facebook Group. Bear Hunt (1), The Cat Came Back, (2) Bought me a Cat (2), Counting Song (1), K - Months of the Year, K- Pretty Princess, K- Moms are Special. Print the template and give each child 1 page to illustrate. Coil the books and sing/read with the class. Add it to the library center in your classroom. Reproducible Little Books About 50 of the songs in Musicplay for Kindergarten and Musicplay 1-2 have been made into little reproducible stores. Have a TA copy and assemble the books, and after you’ve taught the song, give each of thekids in the class a little book to take home. We’ve done many of the predictable stories as reproducible books. Music teacher can teach the song from Musicplay, classroom teacher can benefit from the extra reading/tracking practice. Ask Me Sheets - When you teach a song in music class or in the classroom send home an Ask Me page. These are completed for Musicplay 2 and will be done for K-1 as well, and will be posted in the online resources. Musicplay Digital Resources - There’s a movie of every song in Musicplay included in the Digital Resources. This serves as excellent shared reading practice! Musicplay is an award winning music program for K-6 schools. Each grade level includes 40 weekly lessons that clearly outline concepts and skills taught in each grade. Musicplay includes seasonal songs, fun songs, rounds, partner songs, folk music, multicultural music and choral music. In the Musicplay curriculum students sing, play instruments, move to music, listen, create and learn to read and write music. Important concepts are taught through play. Each week in Grades 1-5 a new singing game is taught. Children love music games making this a text that will have your students really excited about learning music! Musicplay fits well with Orff or Kodàly methodologies, yet it is a program that is used successfully by non-specialist teachers. Orff arrangements are found in The Orff Source Volumes 1, 2, and 3. Students are taught to read and write music through careful sequencing of activities. Extensive listening lessons, maps, activities, cup games and intercom scripts are included in the Listening Resource Kits 1-5, and the included listening examples in Musicplay K and 6. Reproducible song storybooks and Alphabet songs for K-1 teachers integrate with and support early literacy programs. The Digital Resources replace and greatly enhance the material that is in the student books. The music and lyrics are specially formatted to fit a computer/projector screen. Quicktime movies and PowerPoints of the music and lyrics for each song are included as well as slides to teach note names, solfege, beat, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, form, and cultural context. Smart notebook files are included for teachers with Smartboards. This is an excellent tool for shared reading! Sample lessons, PowerPoint samples scope and sequence, curriculum correlations and song lists can be found online. Grants are available to help fund purchase of Musicplay!
