CLASS RANK AND GPA
CLASS RANK
Individual class rank is based on student grade point average, which is calculated using only numerical grades. The class rank is interpreted on a standard GPA
scale where each percentage grade is converted, point-by-point, to an equivalent conventional GPA. Although students and parents can calculate the GPA,
class rank cannot be calculated because this is where the students stand in comparison to their peers in their respective grade level. All courses taken for credit
are incorporated into the class rank calculation at BHS, except for the following:
Medical.
VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN
The Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the senior class at BHS will be determined
after final exams are graded in June of the senior year. The Valedictorian and
Salutatorian positions are based on the grade point average that determines the
1st and 2nd position in rank in class, respectively. If students tie for first position in rank (based on their GPAs taken out to three decimal places), there will
be two (2) Valedictorians (Co-Valedictorians) and NO Salutatorian.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE & WEIGHTING CALCULATION
At Barnegat High School, student GPA will be calculated using only numerical
grades on a weighted 4.0 point scale. For GPA, grades are converted to a 4.0
grading scale. Every course, whether passed or failed, that receives a numerical
grade at BHS counts toward GPA. The highest attainable grade in a course at
BHS is a 100. The following weighted factor index will be used for computing the
numerical averages:
