It’s Time for Summer Fun!
There is so much to see and do at the Library. You will find the coolest
books, new videogames, more movies than ever and you can choose
from a variety of programs!
Make the Westhampton Free Library a part of your summer… you
will be glad you did! Here is all the important information you
need to know:
• Registration for July programs will begin on Friday, June 26 at
9:30am.
• Registration for August programs will begin on Monday, July 20
at 9:30am.
• Registration is required for all Idea Place Programs unless noted,
and is limited to patrons of the Westhampton Free Library.
Non-card holders will be accommodated at the Library’s discretion.
• You may register for the programs online at our Library’s website
at: westhamptonlibrary.net
• Our programs and summer reading clubs are supported by the
Friends of the Library.

Farms: Frogs, Bugs and
Animals: An exciting hands-on
program featuring frogs, bugs,

safely touched. There will even be a “chicken dance”!
July 15: History of Magic: This fast
paced magic show explores the mysteries and
history of magic. Volunteers float mid-air. Things
disappear and reappear. Tricks bound to amaze
children and adults!
July 22: Super Heroes of Science:
A one of a kind show with two awesome
components: Superheroes and Science!
July 29: Agostino Arts: Hero Tales:
Storyteller Christopher Agostino will share classic
tales while painting several audience members’
faces into works of art.
August 5: Nature Nick: A fun show with live animals and magic!
August 12: Brain Show: Enjoy this game show come to life!
August 19: Ice Cream Social/Family Bingo Night: Sample
delicious ice cream while playing Bingo!
August 26: Jester Jim: With a trunk full of props and a looping
machine, young and old will be glued to his every sound as he performs his
beat box intro!

Family Knitting
For families with children ages 8 and older
Thursdays, July 23, 30, August 6 and 13 from
7:00pm to 8:00pm
Beginners can work on a purse, fingerless gloves, or
an American Girl poncho. More advanced students
will be guided through a project of their own
choice. Please bring size #8 - 10 inch long knitting
needles and one skein of worsted weight yarn in a
medium to light color.
Once you are registered for the July knitting
classes, you are automatically registered for the
August ones.

For families with children ages 3 to 6. Bring a stuffed animal friend for stories and a
craft! Then leave your stuffed animal overnight for lots of sleepover fun! Animal may
be picked up on Saturday, August 22.

Rock out to Celtic and pop music! Sing and move to Darlene’s original and traditional songs about playing
together, sunny days, going to the beach, dancing, popping bubbles and getting ready for bed. Everybody

July 14: Brady Rymer
2009 & 2014 GRAMMY Nominee Brady Rymer toured and recorded with RCA roots-rock band From Good
Homes for thirteen years, sharing the stage with the likes of Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews and the Grateful
Dead’s Bob Weir, before parenthood expanded the scope of his music to include young and old alike. Since
then, he’s forged a career with Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could – they “might just be the bestsounding band in children’s music,” according to NPR’s All Things Considered – releasing six acclaimed
albums and bringing energetic, rockin’ live music to kids and families across the country.

Enjoy a unique performance by balloon artist Allynn Gooen, who will fill the stage with extraordinary balloon creations while telling several classic stories in
which children from the audience will be the stars.
August 11: Magic of Amore
Award winning magician Amore will amaze children and their parents with a performance that is fast paced and original. Feel the excitement as you take part
in this one of a kind summer performance. Amore utilizes amazing magic, hilarious side-splitting comedy, music, and loads of audience participation.
August 18: Joe Guida: The Singing Bus Driver
This upbeat show will have you singing, clapping and dancing from the very first song right through his last rocking song “Dance With Me To My Music”.
August 25: Suffolk County Petting Zoo (Special time! 4:00pm to 6:00pm)
Come meet the animals from the Suffolk County Petting Zoo.

SUPERHERO SCIENCE
Discover the science behind the powers of superheroes with the
following classes:
The Secrets of Floating
Thursday, July 9 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Why do ships float? Density and buoyancy come alive with
demonstrations and hands-on activities using a water tank.
Students experiment with different solids and liquids for a
concrete understanding of density. Cartesian diver supplies are
provided for a take home project. (Children/teachers should have
empty water bottles for home Cartesian divers.)
The Science of Flight
Monday, July 20 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm
Why do airplanes fly? Concepts discussed include: gravity, lift,
air pressure and other scientific principles. Students participate in
demonstrations and hand-on activities ending with the assembly
and testing of their own Balsa airplane.
Hover Crafts
Friday, August 14 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Be an engineer and make a vehicle that glides! Students examine
the effects of friction on moving vehicles and explore alternative
types of energy and locomotion. They build their own hovercraft
to test! Students use low temperature glue guns.
*Programs are conducted by the Long Island Science Center.
