This symposium series was developed to generate awareness in sustainability by featuring a discussion that involves the three bottom lines of sustainable development: social, economic, and environmental dimensions. The 2013 symposium will include a panel of three keynote speakers who will speak about this year’s topic, followed by a panel discussion and a Q&A session. Professor Alex Ferworn, CD, PhD Professor Alex Ferworn received his Doctorate of Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is currently a faculty member in the Ryerson University School of Computer Science, and director of a number of certificate programs for The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. His Canine Augmentation Technology (CAT) project was awarded two Ontario Government Showcase Awards of Excellence for Project Achievement. . In 2010, he was nominated as one of the “Best Lecturers” by TV Ontario’s Big Ideas program. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and has contributed chapters to various books. His work has also been popularized by extensive coverage in the media. Dr. Mark Gorgolewski, BSc, MSc, PhD, DIP ARCH, LEED AP Dr. Mark Gorgolewski is a professor and program director for the graduate program in Building Science in the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University. He is a director of the Canada Green Building Council and has worked for many years as an architect, researcher, and environmental consultant to the construction industry in Canada and Europe. He has published many books, articles, and papers on issues of the sustainable built environment. Dr. Kernaghan Webb Dr. Kernaghan Webb is an associate professor in the Department of Law and Business at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management, and is the founding director of the Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility. Dr. Webb has written and published extensively on innovative approaches to regulation (such as CSR); his work has been quoted and followed by the Supreme Court of Canada; and he is the recipient of the 2012 Standards Council of Canada National Award of Excellence for his work on social responsibility and consumer standards.
